    • This Quick Candid Vid Proves That KeKe Wyatt Can Sing, “Who Knew?” Indeed

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Mar 5, 10

Now, don’t get me wrong, I’ve been a fan of KeKe Wyatt since her duets with Avant came out. I knew homegirl could sing, but I didn’t know she could SANG.

Her new record is Who Knew? is out (and a review is forthcoming shortly), but someone captured some impromptu video of her singing “His Eye Is On The Sparrow” while she was preparing for a photo shoot. Wow. She SANG that down! Of course it’s filled with a lot of runs and improvisations typical of a black person singing a Black church traditional song, but at the end of the day, KeKe has range and power. I even get hints of Faith Evans here and there.

So that means that her main issue is the songs and records she is choosing. She just needs better material because that voice is stellar for all intents and purposes.

      Just wanted to share!

Tyrese Tributes Teddy Pendergrass On George Lopez

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jan 22, 10

If you’ve never heard the original before, Tyrese did a cover of Teddy Pendergrass’ “Come Go With Me”, then let me be the first to tell you that Tyrese kinda DID that right there!

I don’t know about him having hair again though — I barely recognized him at first, LOL.

Everytime I see Tyrese pick up a microphone, it takes me a minute to process. Dude can just sing though and I wish he’d do it more. Tyrese needs to put together an AMAZING album…he could wipe the floor with Trey Songz, Jamie Foxx and everyone else. His voice just has hallmarks of classic. Sing more! For real. As long as it is great material, I’d support. None of that Black Ty mess either, or I’m telling @sweetmintyjesus!

The Queen Project Is Coming; Are You Excited?

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Nov 4, 09

Kelly Price, Tamia, Deborah Cox & Shep Crawford

The Queen Project, an album to drop next year from a “supergroup” of sorts of three powerhouse vocalists in Kelly Price, Tamia & Deborah Cox (going under the name TDK), is coming. They’ve all been tweeting about it, and it’s being helmed by producer Shep Crawford.

Well the lovely ladies all showed up in ATL last night to present an award at the Soul Train Awards, which have been revived after a hiatus by BET and Centric (formerly BETJ).

I personally am excited about this, as I’ve posted previously about it. Kelly, Tamia and Deborah are in my top lists of favorite female vocalists. Each has suffered from mediocre material in the past, this is true, but their voices…Sweet Minty Jesus!

In tribute and in anticipation, I am presenting my favorite videos from all 3 of the lovely ladies above, after the jump. Enjoy the music as we look forward to NEW music which is set to drop next year supposedly…

World Series Baseball Has Been Good To The Chocolate Folks This Year

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Nov 2, 09

Check the cast of my favorite show “Glee”, lead by the awesome Amber Riley, belting out a rendition of the National Anthem on Game 3 last week of the World Series. That sista sung DOWN! I ain’t mad girl, get your shine!! She tried to take it to church a little bit but that rearrangement wouldn’t let her Pentecostal self be great LOL. I see you though!

Also performing at Game 2 was Alicia Keys and Jay-Z doing their ubiquitous hit “Empire State of Mind”. The echo was murder on the song, and Alicia still refuses to act like she HAS to touch a piano key everytime she is onstage, but it was a historic occasion. Alicia just does something to me, but I’mma keep it clean. LOL.

Who knew the World Series and Black folks loved baseball that much? I didn’t, though I know from my Twitter timeline that all the NY Yanks black fans are def. tuned in.

Random Videos: @4EverBrandy’s (Brandy) Impromptu Rainbow Rendition

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Oct 2, 09

Sitting here minding my business on a Friday night (hey, it’s a recession and the temperature dropped!) and what do I see but Brandy tweeting she’s dropped a random video on Youtube of her singing “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” in her bathroom…sans makeup…ugly faces…and the wrong lyrics.

Despite her disclaimer I clicked…and you know what, who cares. Girl sounds dope! She even does a few rotations to check out the acoustics in her bathroom LOL.

Is this a subconcious response to Jennifer Hudson’s version that I JUST posted? Probably not, but it’s fun to think about it.

If you missed our Brandy “Duets” post a couple of days ago, check that out. And there’s lots of Brandy leaks floating around this here blog.

Sang B-Rocka…don’t care what no one says though, Brandy STILL has got the vocal chops to go up against any of these young “performers” (not singers) out right now…yet…she has no label deal. Though reverting to the good ole days of Youtube covers is a bit low-budget in a way, but I won’t go there. No shade! SHE GOT ME OVER DAT RAINBOW TONIGHT!
