    • Heather Headley Takes The Stage In Teasers For “The Bodyguard” Musical In London

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Sep 6, 12

As you may have heard, they are doing a stage version of the Whitney Houston classic “The Bodyguard” in London, featuring R&B singer/Broadway actress Heather Headley as the iconic Whitney Houston.

It’ll feature the classic songs from The Bodyguard soundtrack, as well as other notable Whitney Houston songs. We’ve been treated above to a teaser of Heather Headley singing the always iconic “I Will Always Love You”. Do you think Heather has the vocal chops to pull this off? If this came Stateside, would you go see it? I’m not surprised at the key changes (because Whitney was in the rafters), but does that change the impact of the songs?

It officially opens December 5th at the Adelphi Theatre in London’s West End. After the jump, catch the teaser of Heather singing “I Have Nothing”.

Classic Flashback + Coverage: Dionne Warwick Sings Stevie Wonder’s “All In Love Is Fair”

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jul 12, 12

This clip is a master class of interpretation, vocalization, talent, grace and skill.

If you follow me on Twitter or any other medium, you’ve seen my latest musical delve into a classic catalogue with the discovery of the depth and skill of Dionne Warwick back in her heyday.

She’s come to be known as the older crotchety woman was apt to call people “hussy” on NBC’s “Celebrity Apprentice”, and even as a punchline on YouTube parody show “Got 2B Real”, but back in the late 70′s, Dionne Warwick served as the muse for iconic songwriters Burt Bacharach & Hal David, and was an consumate song stylist and interpreter of their captivating lyrics and catalog. In addition to that pair, she also worked with such legends as Isaac Hayes, The Bee Gees, Luther Vandross, and even Barry Manilow.

If you watch this performance, I guarantee you will get goosebumps. You can even see where Whitney Houston gets her influences from a lot throughout this (and other) Dionne Warwick performances. “All In Love Is Fair” is one of my favorite Stevie Wonder songs, but Dionne’s version live in this clip absolutely brings me to my knees.

Give credit to what’s she did even if you aren’t familiar now with who she is. Other favorites of mine that Dionne sings are also “Alfie”, “You’re Gonna Need Me”, “After You”, “Deja Vu” and more.

Leave some thoughts if you have them!

New Music: Jordin Sparks & Whitney Houston Sparkle On “Celebrate”

Written by The IPS in New Music & Reviews on May 21, 12

Audio of one of Whitney Houston’s last recordings has leaked. It’s taken from the upcoming Sparkle movie soundtrack, and it features Whitney’s “Million Dollar Bill”-esque vocals mixed with Jordin Sparks’ youthful and clear as a bell vocal.

I have to say, I don’t think I am ready for this movie. It’s still super sad thinking about Whitney Houston being gone, and watching the Billboard Music Awards last night and hearing Bobbi Kristina accept the award on her mom’s behalf just made it that much more fresh in my mind.

I will say however that “Celebrate” isn’t anything special. Whitney’s taking the low road in terms of notes sung, and setting the stage really for Jordin Sparks to do all the heavy lifting. It’s such a drastic change, but one that isn’t unfamiliar. Whitney’s vocal sounds on par with those of her I Look To You album. This song is nothing special however, and may make more sense in context with the rest of the movie, but still, rest in peace Nippy.

“Sparkle” is due out in August and features Jordin Sparks, Whitney Houston, Omar Epps, Mike Epps, and a whole lot of other people.

Whitney Houston Shines & Sparkles In Trailer For “Sparkle”; Will You Watch?

Written by The IPS in Movies on Apr 2, 12

R.I.P. to one the greatest to ever do it, Whitney Houston.

In her last movie role ever, Whitney Houston has taken center stage with her passing in the upcoming reboot of the 70′s movie Sparkle.

Whitney shines and there’s a clip of her singing “His Eye Is On The Sparrow” as well that appears in the trailer. Set for release on August 17th, 2012, Sparkle also stars Jordin Sparks, Carmen Ejogo, and Tika Sumpter as the singing sisters. It also features appearances by Cee Lo Green, with new music from all 3 of the musical acts featured. Shot in Detroit, the trailer appears to be accurate of the time period that the original project evoked.

Hopefully this will be a breakout movie for Jordin Sparks, and a final and living testament to the greatness that was Whitney Houston, no matter how she passed from us. I cannot wait to see this movie, as I love projects like this, period. It may be a rehash of “Dreamgirls_-esque proportions, but I’d be ok with that. Hearing Whitney one last time gave me chills. Rest in peace Nippy.

Will you be seeing this remake? Have you seen the original? Take the poll below, and weigh in!

There Are Many Tributes, But Chris Cornell’s Cover Of Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” Is My Favorite

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Feb 17, 12

Chris Cornell did a cover of “I Will Always Love You” in tribute to our fallen great, Ms. Whitney Houston.

      This. Is. So. Good.

Chris Cornell is one of my favorite male vocalists, and Whitney Houston was one of my favorite female vocalists. This is amazing.

Whitney’s funeral will be streamed tomorrow on CNN and other media outlets at 11 AM EST. Rest on, Whitney. Rest on.

Rest In Peace: Whitney Elizabeth Houston (1963-2012)

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Feb 11, 12

One of the most sparkling talents in history, Whitney Elizabeth Houston has passed today. This is still breaking news, but it is confirmed and reported many times over.

I’m a huge fan and I’ve posted many things about Whitney Houston here on Tha Feedback, and we wish her and her family well. It’s truly a sad day for the music industry, especially as she has passed the night before the Grammys and also on the day of Clive Davis’ Pre-Grammy Party, which she has used in the past for a vehicle for her comebacks and to support her mentor and svengali, Clive Davis.

      Sad day.

Classic Flashback: Whitney Houston – “My Name Is Not Susan”

Written by The IPS in Blogs,Videos on May 4, 11

OK, now this is one of my favorite Whitney Houston songs, randomly. However, when I thought about it this morning and went to Youtube, I found this version. This is a version/mix I’ve never heard. The music is changed from the original, and it also has Monie Love on it! What say what?!

OK! I never knew Whitney worked with Monie Love. That’s crazy.

Anyway, this was from Whitney’s I’m Your Baby Tonight album, and the music was such a treat for me. The video is a little creepy, but yet and still, Whitney sounded great and it just still makes me sad to see this and then to think about where we are now. I guess sometimes as fans we fail to realize that time has no fans — we all gotta get old someday. I refuse to see new Whitney. I want old Whitney to live on forever in my mind. LOL.

Classic Flashback: Dionne Warwick – “That’s What Friends Are For” (With Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross & Stevie Wonder)

Written by The IPS in Blogs,Videos on Mar 25, 11

Classic. Before she was the “cranky old lady” on “Celebrity Apprentice”, Dionne Warwick was the award winning and celebrated singer and cousin to Whitney Houston.

All of these vocalists on this stage absolutely commanded this performance. Whitney, Luther, and Stevie!? On one stage?

Peep Stevie’s hair outside of the braids too. LOL.

“That’s What Friends Are For” is Dionne’s signature song, but she has had over 56 songs chart on the charts, 2nd to only Aretha Franklin (whose birthday is also today!). She’s mostly know for her collaborations with Hal David and Burt Bacharach, and Bacharach is also responsible for half of this song.

      Enjoy this slice of history!

Why Is Everyone Singing Whitney’s Songs Better Than Her?

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Apr 22, 10

I posted a video of the Internet sensation Lin Yu Chun singing a Whitney Houston song before, but he was on George Lopez singing “Saving All My Love For You” and while it wasn’t as pitch perfect as his version of “And I Will Always Love You” was, it was still pretty interesting. Do we take him seriously? NO!

Also, in the clip above, you will see Broadway actress & singer Sasha Allen singing the exact same song during a PHOTOSHOOT. I cannot stop listening to her version either. This girl is BAD. She’s currently starring in “Hair”…she’s had a couple of R&B deals, but wow…

But still, you got to admit, they both sound better than Whitney sounded a week ago in the UK singing the exact same song:

      OMG…Maybe He Can Be Whitney’s Stand-In!?

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Apr 7, 10

On the heels of Whitney Houston’s Euro tour being postponed, I stumble across this viral clip of a Taiwanese male named Lin Yu Chun and he’s competing on a karaoke show called Super Star Avenue for a prize of $1 million US dollars, or £650,000. Wow!

I submit that he should be Whitney’s stand-in, because umm, he hit EACH and EVERY note — notes that she can’t even hit anymore. Bowl-cut, bowtie and ALL. This video is sweeping the internets of course.

He’s being called the next Susan Boyle because of his looks, but forget about a bunch of that, he slayed the hell out of this song. He sounds just like Whitney. Disturbing, a little, but he blows this out the water!

I need to compose myself, BRB.
