    • Fonzworth Bentley Is “Greener” Than Most Rappers, That’s For Sure…

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jul 6, 10

I personally kinda lost it when ole girl looked like she was praise dancing in the desert in front of big church fans.

      LOL, yes?

Fonzworth Bentley has a new video featuring Anthony Hamilton on the vocals (of the track). The beat is actually kind of nice, but about Fonzworth rapping in the cousin of Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” jacket and his “dancing” — I’m not really sure how to process this video.

The song talks about the old saying “the grass is greener on the other side”, but I’m not really convinced quite yet that Fonzworth’s a “rapper”. I liked “Everybody” and his C.O.L.O.U.R.S. album seems to be a long lost dream, so we shall see.

What do ya’ll think of this song? Can you rock to this?

      R. Kelly Does “Sign Of A Victory” For The 2010 World Cup Crowd

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jun 13, 10

      R. Kelly wrote and produced the official song for the 2010 World Cup and performed it in South Africa for the kick-off crowds. This is a true return to form for R. Kelly indeed, hitting the world stages and all that. I’m sure it’s a “sign of victory” that he is able to still get work, but I guess at the end of the day music speaks for itself, right?

However, him with that Joan of Arc gold hood and that choir with them sparkling-waters-of-the-Nile choir robes, HAHAHAHA I just died!! All that straight from the Bobby Jones Gospel Collection. Who lied!?

      R. Kelly knows better though — he looks hot as HELL in all that shiny black sequin everythang. LOL! I think I’ll just close my eyes and listen to the song (if anything), cause I’m blinded by the glory that is those robes! Some Black choir in the US will have those by next Easter…

Anita Baker Did The National Anthem — Or Did It Do Her In?

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jun 11, 10

I’ve been looking for good video of this all morning and I just gave up. This was the best I could find.

Anita Baker follows Monica and does the National Anthem at the Lakers/Celtics game 4. My my my my my!

Anita is a legend and I am definitely a fan, but let’s call a spade a spade (respectfully). She rolled out of bed, threw on some Speed Stick and last weeks casino gig wig, her auntie clothes and headed down to the arena! She looks a mess LOL.

Now, there were times where I could HEAR that she had some great musical ideas trying to come out. But overall, that performance? With the directing of the band (which there wasn’t one….) and the constant turning and looking around (who you trying to find ‘Nita?!) AND all that yelling and whooping she did at the end like she DID something (girl stop!), I just couldn’t.

Anita needs to go get caught up in the rapture of a backing track because that was a rapture ready mess HAHAHAHAHA!!

Ne-Yo Speaks On His Alter Ego “Jerome”, What Libra Scale Is/About, And Rihanna.

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jun 10, 10

Sadly, he also shares that Rihanna is working on a new album.

      I’ll wait.

Ne-Yo’s new record, Libra Scale, is based off of a script that he has been writing since he got the acting bug. You know, actually, I will just let him explain it, cause…

He sat down with Rap-Up and gave them the exclusive. Please feel free to weigh-in. Oh and his nickname is Jerome! JEROME. That makes me think of Morris Day and The Time HAHAHA.

And I really don’t like that “Beautiful Monster” song…but of course, radio is playing it…

I’m Running Away From This “Monster”, Beautiful Or Not Ne-Yo!

Written by The IPS in New Music & Reviews on May 25, 10

      Ne-Yo – “Beautiful Monster” [Download]

      Wow, Ne-Yo. Wow.

I got to say, I’m a little let down by this. Ne-Yo is so much better than this. This is not his first attempt at a “gay club love song” as my girl said last night when I was listening to this (see “Closer”), but it just seems even more contrived now that that sound is saturating the airwaves. One could say that Ne-Yo did it first on that tip as well, but if so, where “Closer” was at least catchy and decent, this is just tepid and slightly annoying.

Plus, Ne-Yo is not deep enough for high concept themes and art. You sing radio ready R&B dude. So calling your album Libra Scale and doing this whole epic thing — no. Leave that for pros like Janelle Monae!

Confused about this song? Ne-Yo explains it here. I will pass. He premiered it on his Myspace last night.

I just am going to give up on a lot of things soon, radio-ready “R&B” being one of them (which is now becoming dance/pop music even!). And I won’t even go into how she broke down this song’s double entendre or how someone on Twitter said he looked like a gay catfish. Ya’ll are off the hook!

Chris Brown As A Rapper…Calculated Or Lack of Oversight?

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Apr 23, 10

Chris Brown has turned this penchant for “rapping” into what will be a seemingly endless stream of leaked cuts, mixtapes, features and all the various atrocities that this entails. The things one does when radio won’t play your songs and you can’t get to the monies. Either this is really shrewd marketing or he has run amuck!

He did another “mixtape artist” joint with Tyga from Young Money called “Holla At Me”. Get his hormones ya’ll!

I think him, Bran’Nu (Brandy), and Ciara AKA Uncle CiCi (Cecilia?) should all get together and do a mixtape called “Don’t Quit Your Day Jobs”. What is Chris’ rap name? Chopper? LOL cause them teeth? I don’t know.

I think though that whoever is writing for Chris Brown is a beast. Who is it? Speak up! Let me interview you!

He also is on a song with Ester Dean called “Big Things” getting more spit on. That’s another person who I don’t get. Ester is a decent pop/R&B writer but as a solo artist, I’m gonna go ahead and say no.

This will be Chris praying next year that we forget all about his “street” phase. I don’t think this phase was the best idea after, you know, his issues. Shoulda cut a Gospel record!

Dirty Money & Louboutins For Sale, Cheap! Diddy & J. Lo Are Equally Terrible These Days…

Diddy – “They Don’t Love Me” [Listen & Download]

There’s a new Diddy song that is just unacceptable in the canon of what is known as pop music. It’s called “They Don’t Love Me” — and yes, you are right. WE DON’T! What is this mess!? There’s only so much that autotune can do and Diddy is stressing the outer limits on a daily basis with “Angels” and now this song. Is it safe to say that Dirty Money record is going to be pretty dang awful? I thinks so. I hope Dawn & Kaleena are ready to do Gospel plays with Cheri Dennis cause…yeah. The-Dream wants his schtick back. And I want the headache I just got to return back to hell from whence it came!

I hope this is a demo. “Love Come Down” actually grew on me though.

Jennifer Lopez was booked for SNL long before her album was shelved and her latest movie was pushed back, but yet and still, she went anyway. And she performed two new songs — “Starting Over” and “Pieces”. “Pieces” is above and yo, this sh*t is TERRIBLE. Pure and simple, she sounded a mess.

Put on some red bottoms and twerk cause that’s all we care about. OMG, she is flat, sharp, pointy, level to the ground and everything else! LOL I laughed, I just couldn’t even help it. OF COURSE her album was shelved — if she brought me this and I was  the head of the label, she’d get the SEOD too. Acoustic and/or band assisted ballads are NOT her forte. Marc Anthony ain’t helped out his wife in the vocal department?

I bet the neighbors know her name — from her praticing her scales 4x a week with the twins of hers singing along AKA crying cause mommy is hurting them. I can’t.

Superbowl Performances: America Ain’t Beautiful & Glad We Can Only SEE The Star-Spangled Banner

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Feb 8, 10

      Queen Latifah……..

I love the Queen, lawd KNOWS I do. I own like, all her jazz singing albums even just on GP. But this performance right here? Sweet Minty Jesus will not let this pass because Queen Latifah doesn’t have enough squall or church or power in her voice to pull THAT one off. That required a Fantasia blessing. A kick off your shoes and run around the end zone type anointing! Queen Latifah tried, but around the 1:40-ish mark I had to log off eternity and page Michael the Archangel to bring that note back to where it was supposed to be.

That CHOIR outsung the mess out of her. Not in terms of people, I mean in terms of precision. Why the backup always better than the star!? LOL. God bless her Maybelline ministry. She must have been singing about the America that is tainted w/ racism and doesn’t recycle their trash because that was ugly at points!

Carrie Underwood is usually a FANTASIC singer — that being said and acknowledged, this performance was borderline terrible. She had a strong vocal throughout, but unfortunately, that strength continued as continually slid down pitches as she sung. I mean, it culminated with that last and final note that I’m sure had everyone scratching their heads like “Did she just swallow a firecracker?”

Props to her (and Queen) for singing live, but still, come on. It was like a long walk off a short pier and that final note was the unexpected drop ROFL. I love Carrie though, but she is gonna go home and watch that on the TV and hide under her covers for a day or two. Maybe she is the one that jinxed Peyton Manning, and Queen Latifah’s faux church blessed the Saints! “WHODAT!”

At A Loss For Words With This One But It’s “The Sh*t” Indeed

Written by The IPS in Videos on Nov 30, 09

ROFL, yo, I got my life today with this one. Deep belly laughs that just awoke my itis-ed soul from the Thanksgiving slumber early this morning. Get your life too! I have no idea who this is, but apparently he won RuPaul’s reality show? BeBe Zahara Bennett?

Well, he’s doing his own music thing with this video for his song “I’m The Sh*t” and let me tell you, LOL, I don’t know what to do. The song itself is randomly catchy in the hook but really, all it is saying is “I’m the sh*t”. Jennifer Lopez and him should trade, yes?

OK please, just watch this LOL, I got nothing else to say. Did anyone else watch that RuPaul show? I don’t normally do drag queens but this right here had me DYING! This one is for the kids of Tha Feedback LOL.

We Love Janelle Monae But This Outfit = *__________*

Written by The IPS in Celeb Snapshots on Nov 24, 09

I love Janelle Monae, and “Come Alive (War of the Roses)” tops my playlist DAILY.

However, this getup above? ROFL she looks like a Vampire Bullfighter. Ole’!

She must be auditioning for the Telemundo/Telenovela version of “Twilight”. I ain’t mad, it’s all about that paper chase! She made an appearance at the MTVU Woodie Awards last week, and this is her red carpet outfit and pose.

      Well alright!
