    • “OMG” Usher, This New Single Is Terrible Yo…

Usher – “OMG” [Listen + Download]

I have officially stopped caring about Usher and his music from here on out. This is his official single to be serviced to international markets apparently, and the song is produced by and features will.i.am.

This is just…not good. This song is going to clear dancefloors and make people switch radio dials all over the world. I hope Usher didn’t cash all his “Confessions” checks and/or piss them away in alimony…seriously. We expect more from Usher, and this ain’t it!

He can keep this, “Papers” and all the other songs that have leaked as far as I am concerned.

Am I alone? LOL that’s fine if I am, truly. I’ll be saving my $10 for gas, groceries and gum.

The All-Star Performances Were Less Than Stellar Sadly…

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Feb 15, 10

Alicia Keys sings CONSISTENTLY under the note. Like, this woman is always slightly flat and it just MURDERS my eardrums. I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt, but she came out with that Just For Me brown hair color and I just automatically gave her the side-eye. Then she started singing and I just had kick her while she was down(pitch). Please pass her a Guide to Lip-Syncing because I’d rather see her dance and look thick and good then ruin my visual daydreams with that voice. I just can’t.

“Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart” was pretty bad, then “Empire State of Mind Part II” was slightly better, but then she cracked at the beginning of “No One” and OMG, she just…I can’t!!!!

As far as Shakira goes, just do what I do — mute it! ROFL, however, Shakira is FINE. Even though I always crack up at her busting out with the Step/Drill Team routine, “Give It Up To Me” actually has a nice beat. Instrumental please! Shakira is so fine though, I’d watch her peel and cut potatoes. NO lie. “She Wolf” scares me slightly LOL.

Usher has officially lost his crown, because this mess? That Breastplate of Foolishness that he has on?! I cannot! The notes were everywhere, and the dance moves just seemed a little strained and forced. I think Usher has just checked out and is doing music for the check now. The only thing I liked was the track to that 2nd track he danced to. But overall, his music is crap now, and even “Yeah” sounds SUPER dated.

If Alicia Keys and Usher are our representatives for this generation’s legends…ohhhhh buddy. We in trouble.

Usher Proclaims That He’s “Home” In New Clip

Written by The IPS in Videos on Jan 28, 10

      All Hail Usher!

Usher debuted his new video on MTV and of course, it’s all dance moves and pretty ladies, the two things he never seems to fail at (well…there was that one time…).

In the Chris Robinson directed “Daddy’s Home” clip (featuring fiiiiiiine model Noemie Lenoir), there’s a clear distinction shown between the sexual nature of this song and the “return” of Usher to the music business after a long hiatus.

While I applaud Usher’s agility and nimbleness after all this time, I still cannot get behind this song. There are times when he’s singing that it’s absolutely not okay. Usher has never had to do “much” vocally to make a song good. He threw it in there at key points to create the right amount of tension and expectation, but during this song?

There are so many runs and riffs and attempts at higher notes that just came off flat and just out-right terrible. It’s like, no one caught these during editing? It was like, 2 or 3 times where I jumped back from the screen. Not believing my ears!

Anyway, the younger generation might not really KNOW who Usher is, and this isn’t going to grab their attention. The older generation of ladies are probably happy on some level to see Usher back. Where do you stand?

Raymond vs. Raymond drops on March 30th, which seems to be getting release heavy…

Usher Relies On Tricks From The 90’s To Prove He’s Still Got It

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jan 27, 10

You know I hate these “trailers” and “sneak peeks”. Seriously, it’s like your video is not a worldwide event. We don’t care for the most part. We will watch it once and most likely forget about you after that!

Usher is no exception to the rule. For an artist who once had “superstar” status, his star has greatly dimmed over the past couple of years. Call it age, lack of originality in music, personal life drama, whatever — basically, the focus has shifted from his music to him.

This trailer for his new single “Daddy’s Home” seems like a lame & desperate attempt to put Usher back on “sex symbol” status, with him resorting to the old trick of showing his abs. Abs which now have kids, drama, crazy exes, bills and a mediocre material behind the voice that weakly is still trying ton convince us that he’s the man. Do better!

Usher is starting to seemingly be a bit of a legend in his own mind, and if this newest album of his doesn’t show growth, maturity and ground-breaking-forward-thinking-yet-current music and lyrical depth, then he will go the way of the DoDo Bird. Especially with whipper-snappers like Trey Songz with better abs and less drama knocking at his front door…

The Obama’s Celebrated “Christmas In Washington” With Some Sanging

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Dec 23, 09

Usher tried his best to get his croon on on “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” LOL. But as they say, it doesn’t take all that to deliver a song Usher…I feel like there was a lot of “extra” done with this performance. A little flourish here and there is nice, but that performance seemed early round of American Idol amateurish. WWSS? (What Would Simon Say?)

Mary J. Blige did “Oh Holy Night” and this song has tripped up many a singer LOL. Mary included, because those initial notes were rough and she didn’t recover too quickly after that. But when it came time to belt, Mary was STILL a little flat. LOL. She also sang “The Christmas Song” and sounded a lot better doing that song fortunately.

I wonder if the Obama’s were pleased with the selection of singers. Justin Beiber also performed (one of the better ones actually), Sugarland, Rob Thomas amd Neil Diamond also performed. You can peep Justin’s performance of “Someday At Christmas” after the jump.

Why Are All These Artists Bi-Polar? Usher’s Up Next…

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Dec 8, 09

Usher is starting promo (really!?) for his next album, Raymond Vs. Raymond. I’m sorry, why are all these artists crazy in the head. Sasha Fierce, Raymond vs. Raymond, I just cannot.

This looks like his perfume commercial, which looked like his promo for Confessions, which looked like his relationship with Chilli…

Usher is locked in a vicious cycle and I think we are all kind of…over it.

His album has been pushed to March 2010, so that gives him time to really get a hot hot single. “Papers” is not the lick, I’m sorry, and the leaked songs I’ve been hearing have not been very interesting either. Maybe it’s just me?

His latest leak, “Stay Down”, produced by Danja, sounds like a Jason Derulo/Jay Sean reject.

Music Video: Gucci Mane – “Spotlight” (Feat. Usher)

Written by The IPS in Videos on Nov 5, 09

I’m sorry, I can’t take Gucci Mane seriously with this one ROFL. Him being melancholy about breaking up with his girlfriend and Usher coercing him to come out on some 2009 “U Don’t Have To Call” video steez is a big “??WTF??” to me. How you go from “Party party party let’s all get wasted” to *sad Chris Brown courtoom face*?!

And Usher as a hook singer? Really?

That’s his lane, he really needs to stay in it because “Wasted” goes off! This song is a blatant attempt at radio play.

At the end of the video, you forget about it and the song. No love for this one Gucci. I MEAN, WHERE ARE THE BURR’S! *smh* So disappointed. They spent all that money for nothing.

New Music: Mary J. Blige & Usher

Mary J. Blige – “I Can See In Color” [Listen + Download]

I love Mary, LORD knows I do, but I cringed a couple of times during this song LOL. It’s going to the title song for Precious (and I got some stories about it but I can’t even tell ya’ll LOL) and Mary wrote it supposedly for the movie. It was chosen over a Mariah Carey song that she wrote for the movie as well.

Pain and blues is what Mary does best and I’m sure this fits the movie more but goodness…there are some vocally painful points during this joint LOL. But…I think we are used to Mary sounding like…Mary.

Usher – “Rockband” [Listen + Download]

LOL. No. FAIL. What is this dude going through!? Usher can do way better than this. Let’s just hope this is a demo and not an album cut. RedOne of recent Lady GaGa (though he’s been around for a minute) fame produced this and I’m just gonna say lots of NO to this. Maybe this was a blatant attempt for some inclusion in the video game? LOL…ack. 0-2 Ush…0-2.

      New Music: Usher – “Papers”

Written by The IPS in New Music & Reviews on Oct 5, 09

Usher’s latest single has dropped, so you KNOW it must be the 4th quarter. All the heavy hitters are coming out of hibernation.

This song “Papers” is obviously about his divorce and the drama that he’s been through. However, Usher capitalizing on another breakup makes me uneasy. Sure, it’s life, and he didn’t expect to be here in that place again, but I don’t know.

I have an issue with them being all hush hush but oh let it not workout and it’s “LEMME GO MAKE A HOT SONG ABOUT THIS!” I hate that double standard. Involve us from the beginning or just leave us OUT of it!

Music-wise, it’s nothing too groundbreaking. Usher’s up in his upper register seemingly because at times I feel as if his screaming is supposed to equal “emotion”. His voice hasn’t gone the way of Mariah Carey though, so this bodes well. I’m waiting to hear what he’s going to do musically, cause historically, Usher usually puts together solid albums — questionable lyric content aside LOL. Anyone catch them “U Got It Bad” riffs and notes? Holla!

Album out in December — I heard the title changed. LOL, OK. I thought “Monster” was in bad taste anyway — (insert bad joke about his ex-wife here).

Video: Usher’s New Artist, Justin Beiber’s “One Time”

Written by The IPS in Videos on Jun 19, 09

So I stumbled across this a couple of days ago and put it to Twitter to see what people thought. At first, I wasn’t impressed at all. But the homie Steph Jones suggested I take another listen before I gave up on.

OK, so, I’ve listened again and watched the video and I don’t think it’s bad. At all. I think what my initial argument was about Usher signing this dude, while I was wondering what happened to One Chance and Rico Love!?

But maybe it just wasn’t their time and Usher’s making a shrewd business decision with the signing of the cute singing young YT dude. Definitely aimed for pop success, Usher can make a mint w/ old dude if he positions him right.

Justin’s voice is not anything I could get used to hearing often, though I am probably not his target demo LOL. I’mma have to wait for his voice to drop first! But he does have a nice set of chops on him, and shows it off on this radio-friendly pop song. I’ve read he plays instruments and stuff too, and is not just a “face”.

If the girls can get past his nasally voice, which I’m sure they can, he’ll be alright. The song itself is pretty cool, so we will see what happens…

What ya’ll think? Did Usher sell his soul to the Devil to make a quick buck or is dude actually talented enough to deserve a chance and co-sign by Usher?
