    • Usher Is Back To Doing What He Does Best — Dancing & Entertaining With “DJ Got Us Falling In Love”

Written by The IPS in Videos on Aug 25, 10

Despite the fact that this looks like one big “Step Up 3D” commercial, it’s a pretty straightforward affair. Usher’s dancing. Ladies moving. Insert rapper (Pitbull). But it really does make you appreciate Usher for some reason. I can’t place my finger on it, but I always feel like I am getting a whole lot more than I paid for when I am watching Usher.

Sure, he’s catering to this dance/4-on-the-floor craze like everyone else is on radio right now, but it works. This might be hot in Miami, but I can’t imagine this getting played in hip-hop clubs and folks getting their Dougie on to this. However, Usher knows that that’s not where the money is anyway. We see you!

Usher Does “DJ Got Us Falling In Love” and “OMG” Live For America

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Aug 24, 10

This “DJ Got Us Falling In Love” song is just NOT my cup of tea, but I figured out a couple of weeks ago that I was not Usher’s targeted fanbase, so I just gave up caring LOL. However, one thing I can always applaud and give props to Usher on is his staging and live performances. He consistently proves why he has been around for so long. His performances are always usually tight, right, and out of sight LOL.

The staging, the dancers, the routines, and even his live band ALL compliment and accent Usher’s already formidable stage presence and presentation. Even more so, the band ALWAYS kicks his songs into a higher gear, and I walk away feeling like I should feel guilty for liking a song like “DJ Got Us Falling In Love”, but not with a funky backbeat like they gave it on this performance. I actually could have gone to this performance while in NYC last week, but I don’t do crowds! Versus, the release of additional music as a companion to Raymond Vs. Raymond will be out soon, as well as the re-release.

Usher Needs To Blame It On The Alcohol For This “Hot Toddy” Situation…

Written by The IPS in New Music & Reviews on Jul 28, 10

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Usher – “Hot Toddy” Featuring Jay-Z & Ester Dean

I will admit to initially writing off Usher’s Raymond Vs. Raymond album, but songs like “There Goes My Baby” and “OMG” went on to become hits for Usher, and he’s been getting as much mileage out of them as he could. However, they are taking the well-trod “re-release” road by putting out an EP called Versus and also re-releasing Raymond Vs. Raymond with the EP as a double-disc set, both of which will be available August 24th.

“Hot Toddy” is produced by Polow Da Don and features Jay-Z and Ester Dean on vocals. Between Usher and Ester, these vocals feel rushed and at times; they sound downright unpolished in my opinion. Any goodwill Usher had with me because of “There Goes My Baby” flew out Tameka’s upper-floor spinster window.

Did he say “whoa kemo sabe”?! I guess. LOL, people will eat this up. Shouts to Jay giving props to The Illuminati. Shouts to Ester Dean for replacing Ciara’s vocals but managing to sound worse than her? This is just an overall fail and it makes me want to go have a drink. This AND that Pitbull song…come on Usher.

Usher’s “There Goes My Baby” Finally Gets A Visual

Written by The IPS in Videos on Jul 13, 10

This song has been out for a while, but Usher’s reclaiming of his fame has spurred it on to radio hit status, so now we get an Anthony Mandler directed clip for it.

There’s really not much to see here — Usher singing, doing some solo choreo, doing a mean pull-up, cavorting with a female, wash/rinse/repeat.

The song is still pretty good though to me, this video could have been a bit more…lowkey seductive to match the vibe of the song somewhat. It’s decent though, and Usher’s march doesn’t quit. He’s dropping a new album in a month or so and even has a new song with Pitbull, which I’ve yet to even bother listening to.

      Thoughts?

Keith Sweat and Joe Are Too Old For Car Metaphors

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jul 6, 10

Keith Sweat and Joe on a track? Did someone throw the 90′s into a blender and see what two names they chose?

While the thought of these two doing a duet together is interesting in and of itself, hearing them over a tepid R&B production with tired car metaphors hurts my soul even more. It’s not that they sound bad, because they really don’t. Joe sounds like Joe; Keith sounds like Keith. They are both in their lanes, however, that car jumped off the track with this R. Kelly-throwaway joint.

I could hear Trey Songz and Usher teaming up for something like this dismally and on paper, until someone talked them out of it. While Keith Sweat was sweeping up the floors of the conference room, he found this on a piece of paper and called up Joe. The rest is history. LOL!

Usher Shows Up His Protégé Justin Bieber In The “Somebody To Love” Remix Video

Written by The IPS in Videos on Jun 18, 10

I’m not really a Justin Bieber fan, but Usher makes a cameo on this “Somebody to Love” remix, and while it’s nothing to write home about, Usher is still dancing circles around his “competition”, and I secretly think THAT is why he agreed to even shoot this video LOL.

Choreographer Jamaica really tried her hardest to get Justin’s moves together, but hammercy, LOL! And notice how few times he’s even singing AND dancing in the same shot. He was like, “FORGET IT! ONE OR THE OTHER!”

It must have been especially frustrating for him to be on set with all those amazing dancers that were the winners from “America’s Best Dance Crew”. I would have been like, “ummm, HELLO, who’s idea was this!?” HAHAHA.

I do have to agree though, this song IS kinda catchy. I just heard it like, once last week on the radio. It gets stuck in your mind QUICK. Ahhhhhh!

However, whenever I get a little down in my spirit, I just watch Justin walking into this glass door. HAHAHAHAHA.

Usher’s Performances of “OMG” Are Getting Better & Better…

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jun 8, 10

      [dailymotion xdkthp]

Usher has been going exceptionally hard overseas with his performances of “OMG”. I’m noticing it too. It seems like the energy level has been kicked up like, 5 notches. One performance recently posted on the web, he brought out Justin Bieber and will.i.am to rock with him onstage.

But check out this performance — I wasn’t going to post another one, but Usher is pretty much singing throughout this whole performance, is dancing his butt off and hitting all his marks, and is just overall turning it out like a legend SHOULD. Usher’s “strategic” use of the backing track is perfect in my opinion.

Britain’s Got Talent got one of the best Usher performances I’ve seen this album cycle.

As much as I loathe this song, it’s been consistently growing on me. I think it has just permeated my psyche from sheer repetition however. Oh, radio, how I hate you.

Usher’s Band Makes Me Say “OMG” With This Performance

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jun 2, 10

Usher appeared on French news/talk show “Le Grand Journal” to perform “OMG” to his Parisian fans. While I’ve been over this song, it has become a hit and even I am starting to like it, simply because I hear it ALL the freaking time. They wearing me down ya’ll!

However, his band? They killed this performance! Especially the drummer. And I have to give it up to Usher because he is handling his vocal duties in terms of stamina while performing. *slow claps*

I wonder what his next single will be…

“OMG,” If Usher’s Album Wasn’t A Smash, It’s About To Be Now!

Written by The IPS in Blogs on May 11, 10

This record is #1. I am still shocked by that, honestly. But it just exemplifies where urban music is going — everyone is trying to get that dance sound. It’s a little mind (and ear numbing).

However, the band’s live arrangement of this song on this performance gave it a bit of added depth and a little bit more life. will.i.am came out and did his bit, just happy about the boost in royalties that this Oprah performance is about to bring Usher’s sales LOL, and Oprah did her usual dancing and smiling.

Usher has somehow saved himself from irrelevance, but I still feel like a lot of people give this song a collective “what is this!?” when they hear it. Eventually the soul clap and monotone singing become slightly catchy until you just can’t stand it anymore, but by then, Usher has collected a few more coins.

Get into Usher! Come on, try! LOL.

      I Have A Confession — I Can’t Stand Usher Anymore!

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Apr 2, 10

Usher performed “Hey Daddy (Daddy’s Home)” on George Lopez last night, and he started off OK (for Usher lately). And I thought to myself — “you are being so hard on people lately. Give him a chance!” So I fell back. But then, he started to fall apart. Stamina, pitch, EVERYTHING.

And it makes me sad because Usher used to be one of the people that we’d mention in terms of longevity and possibly becoming one of those singular named stars that we refer to forever as classics. He is quickly decaying that legacy with each passing performance and tired retread album. No one will be singing this song years from now. Why isn’t Usher making music for longevity and not a paycheck? We expect so much from him because his track record demands us to! Not that we expect him to sell another 10 million records, but I do expect him to make some classic music and turn in great performances.

He’s been doing this way too long NOT to.

And the American Idol performance of “OMG” was even worse and all over the place. Auto-tuned, overblown, and underwhelming. It was even MORE confusing and headache inducing with will.i.am added to the mix and him and Usher oversinging each other.

Sweet Minty Jesus be a hot tube time machine and a DeLorean to take Usher back to his “8701″ days. AI performance after the jump!
