    • More Coverage: Usher Rocks His “Pumped Up Kicks” In The UK

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jun 13, 12

      More COVERAGE for you today!

Usher took the BBC Radio 1 airwaves to rock out and show off his guitar skills to the world with his cover of Foster The People’s “Pumped Up Kicks”. I didn’t know Usher could play the bass, but one would hope after such a long lengthy career being around all these amazing musicians that he’d pick up another instrument outside of his golden chops.

I still laugh at this song because it’s a very morbid song, and Usher is lowkey taking it to church. But you know, a hot pop song is a hot pop song. And Usher wants to prove that he is on top of things in the world — have you heard his latest album Looking 4 Myself yet? Point proven LOL!

What y’all think of Usher rocking out with his fauxhawk out?

Does Usher’s “Climax” Video Get You Anywhere Near Yours?

Written by The IPS in Videos on Mar 12, 12

This new Usher video leaves me nonplussed. I’m really not invested in this song visually, though honestly, I’ve got to say that I immediately was not interested from jump.

That’s not to say I have a problem with the song though.

Usher looks and sounds great, is aging well, but that’s about all I can say. I’m not his market though, so y’all tell me if it moved you to the point where you wanted to run that back. He said the track isn’t about sex, and this video casts him as a spurned lover. But the narrative is a bit unclear at times, and I think he has tried to defocus the sexual undertones so much in this visual that you watch it and are like, “OK, so…what next?”

Usher Pulls A Chameleon Move With New Joint “Climax”

Written by The IPS in New Music & Reviews on Feb 23, 12

Usher’s latest song to hit the Net continues to chronicle his ever-evolving sound, which he is wisely holding the reins over in my opinion. It features Usher’s trademark falsetto, patented sexy-time feel, and even material which he does well with. And yet, on top of all that, this joint doesn’t sound dated or like a desperate grab for radio attention. Yes, it feels intentional, but it still feels original enough to keep Usher Raymond current and at the forefront of people’s minds. And that’s a good thing.

You don’t know whether this is a dubstep song, a slow-jam R&B…it feels as if it could shift at any moment. That’s what makes it interesting. Produced by DJ/producer/dance music afficionado Diplo, he wisely reins in the desire to take Usher ALL the way there, and it makes this song come off as metered, smart, and as something that you feel you have to listen to numerous times to get it.

Not particularly a fan of this joint, but I see the intent behind it. No word on when Usher’s dropping a new album, but I think he’ll continue his path of hits with this new one as well. I’ve heard that Usher’s been calling it “revolutionary pop”, and I might agree with him. This is a smart combo of what’s hot, what he knows, and what can continue to keep his career relevant…

Usher’s Going On Tour + Graces Jimmy Kimmel’s Stage For A Few Tunes

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Sep 17, 10

Usher did “There Goes My Baby” for the Jimmy Kimmel Show in Hollywood yesterday. I forgot he was going to be on and tune in. It was a pretty stripped down affair as compared to his performance of “DJ Got Us Falling In Love”, which is after the jump.

I’m just going to come clean — I’d be lying if I said I don’t want to go see the “OMG” Tour just a little bit. Usher is a fantastic live performer, and puts a lot of work and energy into his live shows and choreography. Sure, he’s getting a little older, but he is still holding it down. I’m in. Check out his website for tour dates. Trey Songz and Miguel are going with him, if they float your boat…

Coverage: Carmen Reece Covers Usher’s “DJ Got Us Falling In Love” — Well!

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Sep 11, 10

Carmen Reece — not sure who she is, but she does this song some real justice! I like her cover a lot — much more than the original LOL. She really puts a nice spin on it that almost makes me believe that it’d be better in this format than the original…

Check out Carmen Reece’s website here! And you can also follow her on Twitter and make sure you tell her found her at Tha Feedback!

Usher Is Back To Doing What He Does Best — Dancing & Entertaining With “DJ Got Us Falling In Love”

Written by The IPS in Videos on Aug 25, 10

Despite the fact that this looks like one big “Step Up 3D” commercial, it’s a pretty straightforward affair. Usher’s dancing. Ladies moving. Insert rapper (Pitbull). But it really does make you appreciate Usher for some reason. I can’t place my finger on it, but I always feel like I am getting a whole lot more than I paid for when I am watching Usher.

Sure, he’s catering to this dance/4-on-the-floor craze like everyone else is on radio right now, but it works. This might be hot in Miami, but I can’t imagine this getting played in hip-hop clubs and folks getting their Dougie on to this. However, Usher knows that that’s not where the money is anyway. We see you!

Usher Does “DJ Got Us Falling In Love” and “OMG” Live For America

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Aug 24, 10

This “DJ Got Us Falling In Love” song is just NOT my cup of tea, but I figured out a couple of weeks ago that I was not Usher’s targeted fanbase, so I just gave up caring LOL. However, one thing I can always applaud and give props to Usher on is his staging and live performances. He consistently proves why he has been around for so long. His performances are always usually tight, right, and out of sight LOL.

The staging, the dancers, the routines, and even his live band ALL compliment and accent Usher’s already formidable stage presence and presentation. Even more so, the band ALWAYS kicks his songs into a higher gear, and I walk away feeling like I should feel guilty for liking a song like “DJ Got Us Falling In Love”, but not with a funky backbeat like they gave it on this performance. I actually could have gone to this performance while in NYC last week, but I don’t do crowds! Versus, the release of additional music as a companion to Raymond Vs. Raymond will be out soon, as well as the re-release.

Usher Needs To Blame It On The Alcohol For This “Hot Toddy” Situation…

Written by The IPS in New Music & Reviews on Jul 28, 10

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Usher – “Hot Toddy” Featuring Jay-Z & Ester Dean

I will admit to initially writing off Usher’s Raymond Vs. Raymond album, but songs like “There Goes My Baby” and “OMG” went on to become hits for Usher, and he’s been getting as much mileage out of them as he could. However, they are taking the well-trod “re-release” road by putting out an EP called Versus and also re-releasing Raymond Vs. Raymond with the EP as a double-disc set, both of which will be available August 24th.

“Hot Toddy” is produced by Polow Da Don and features Jay-Z and Ester Dean on vocals. Between Usher and Ester, these vocals feel rushed and at times; they sound downright unpolished in my opinion. Any goodwill Usher had with me because of “There Goes My Baby” flew out Tameka’s upper-floor spinster window.

Did he say “whoa kemo sabe”?! I guess. LOL, people will eat this up. Shouts to Jay giving props to The Illuminati. Shouts to Ester Dean for replacing Ciara’s vocals but managing to sound worse than her? This is just an overall fail and it makes me want to go have a drink. This AND that Pitbull song…come on Usher.

Usher’s “There Goes My Baby” Finally Gets A Visual

Written by The IPS in Videos on Jul 13, 10

This song has been out for a while, but Usher’s reclaiming of his fame has spurred it on to radio hit status, so now we get an Anthony Mandler directed clip for it.

There’s really not much to see here — Usher singing, doing some solo choreo, doing a mean pull-up, cavorting with a female, wash/rinse/repeat.

The song is still pretty good though to me, this video could have been a bit more…lowkey seductive to match the vibe of the song somewhat. It’s decent though, and Usher’s march doesn’t quit. He’s dropping a new album in a month or so and even has a new song with Pitbull, which I’ve yet to even bother listening to.
