    • Tha Feedback Is Giving You The “3rd Degree”!

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Nov 29, 11

      Hey all!

The IPS here, taking a quick break from my self-imposed hiatus to let you know about an awesome local project I’m involved in!

While I’ve been a bit MIA from the blog world as I’ve been working, traveling, and planning birthday celebrations, I’ve also been doing a bit more offline work as well.

This Thursday, December 1st, I’m launching 3rd Degree, which is an interview series I’m hosting and sponsoring with 360 Degrees Unlimited! It’s a web series that will be debuting soon, and this is the official launch party.

If you’re in the area, come out! It’s going to be at Beauty Bar in Portland, OR (111 SW Ash St.), and DJ SlimKid3 from Pharcyde is on the decks as well. We’ll be showing some of the interviews, the artists will be there, and we’re just gonna have a good time!

I’ll be back to blogging soon, promise. Just trying to make sure I get this 401(k) in order. Thanks for hanging around, and we’ll see ya soon!

The IPS Blogs: Quick Thoughts On The Chris Brown vs. Frank Ocean Twitter Beef

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jun 17, 11

Yoooo, so if you been MIA today, Chris Brown complimented Frank Ocean today via Twitter. Allegedly. Frank Ocean took it the wrong way, and went left on Chris Brown. Then Tyler the Creator got involved and started going HAM on Chris Brown Goblin style.

The players — Chris Brown…well, he’s Chris Brown. Frank Ocean is a “new” (I use that loosely) artist/singer/songwriter that has been in the biz for a while, but is now going under the name Frank Ocean and is getting acclaim and radio spins of his song “Novacane”, which is from a “free” album that he released on the Internet a couple of months ago. I posted that here. We also just posted his new video here. Tyler the Creator is from the Odd Future gang — a loosely affiliated group of artists/label that is getting major burn by all the critics and press outlets as one of the next big things. Tyler is the “leader” of Odd Future, which Frank Ocean is also a part of.

I took to the video world real quick to drop some thoughts. While it’s not a comprehensive overview of the situation by any means, watch the vid to see my thoughts. Was this a ploy by the label to get Frank Ocean some press as they are about to re-release his “free” album Nostalgia, Ultra to retail? Or was this just a case of some tweets gone awry?

I originally thought they may have been on the same labels, but I was wrong. Still, you never know…

Just sharing my thoughts. Have a good weekend!

The IPS Blogs: Welcome New Writer Donovan To Tha Feedback!

Written by Donovan in Blogs on Jun 8, 11

      Hey all-

Slowly but surely we are getting it together over here! Thanks for your patience as we tinker with some things and try to get back on a regular posting schedule! Also, some news — we have a new writer! Check out his intro below, and make sure you show him some love. If you are interested in writing for us, let me know, we are still looking for a few good homo sapiens to contribute to our lil ole blog!

Hello loyal readers of Tha Feedback! Sweet Minty Jesus has ordained a new deacon to his ministry and I plan to bring you the truth. My name is Donovan and I am an LA born, recent college grad, long time follower of The IPS and most importantly… a bona fide music fanatic. There isn’t a day that goes by where I am not inspired by some great music or equally desecrated by some terrible music. But no matter good or bad, I plan to bring all of that here to you, and of course with the .02 you all know and love! So check me out on Twitter, LastFM and comment on my blogs because I want your opinions. Lastly, I need help thinking of a catchy internet alter ego no Sasha Fierce so please help me out if you can. See you all around.

Yes, so help us come up with a name for Donovan!

Stay tuned for more good stuff to come!

The Arista Unreleased Files: Black Coffey, Lady May, Rob Jackson, Latrelle…And Blu Cantrell

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jun 7, 11

I don’t even remember how I ever came across this group, but 50 billion years later, I still had this song stuck in my head. The Coffey brothers had a short lived Arista deal under the group name Black Coffey, and their first single “Country Boyz” was not a musical slam-dunk by any means, but if you pay close attention, THESE DUDES WERE SANGIN’. For real.

AND the song featured rapper Rob Jackson who had a small but rising single called “Boom, Boom, Boom” which featured ANOTHER Arista signee in addition to himself that never hit big — Lady May. Lady May had a song with Blu Cantrell called “Round Up”. Arista had all these random artists back in the day that never really got a chance to blow up, whether it was from an over-inflated roster or due to label issues. They all had SOME potential though. And Blu Cantrell was her own downfall, but ole girl had chops, Faith Evans replacement and all.

And does anyone remember Latrelle? Her Neptunes-produced banger “House Party” was a KNOCK, but she was on Arista at the same time, and her debut album was never properly released either.

I hate when bad record deals happen to decently talented people. If they lived in the times we lived in now, pretty sure their albums would have come out independently.

      We’ll Be Back!

Written by The IPS in Blogs on May 9, 11

      Feedbackers-

A lot going on these days, so I’m going to take a sabbatical of sorts. I’m not shutting down Tha Feedback or anything drastic like that, and may even post sporadically as time permits, but for the next few weeks I will be MIA a little bit.

Juggling a lot of balls right now and need to get settled into a new job, a new place and the moving that goes along with that, and figuring out some other things that are pressing.

Please keep us bookmarked and you can also subscribe to the feed to be alerted as to when a new post goes up directly as well!

Thanks for ALL the support and please, stay tuned. More to come definitely!

PS: I am looking for writers, and if you’d like to be considered, please shoot me an email! Contact info is on the side. Hit me up!

      The IPS Blogs: Update!

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Apr 28, 11

      Hey Feedbackers-

Life is moving, moving, moving and I just wanted to apologize for the lack of updates over the past few days. I’ve gone around and gotten a new job and so I am doing the whole “get acclimated to a new place and time schedule” thing and have been super busy. So, consider this an update and I should be back up and running starting on Monday!

Until then, go through the archives and check out the podcasts and get the latest blend and all that! There’s still plenty to see and do round these parts.

      See ya Monday!

The IPS Blogs: There Are Too Many Singing Shows…

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Mar 21, 11

So now we have “The Voice” on NBC, we will have the US version of the British hit “The X Factor” on FOX this fall, and of course stalwarts like “American Idol” (and you might want to throw in “America’s Got Talent” as well). If you also add in the BET Gospel version of “Idol” “Sunday Best”, you will see that there clearly is a lot of singing on TV being done, for better and for worse.

      The IPS Blogs: California Dreamin’

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Feb 21, 11

      Hey Feedbackers!

Just for an update — I’m actually out in (sometimes) sunny Los Angeles for the next week or so doing some business and enjoy myself, so posting will probably be light. HOWEVER, I will be out and about in the city and will be posting up some pics or videos as I get them!

First up — I went and saw Bobby Brown last night. And it was epic. And there will be video posted as soon as it gets done processing. LOL thanks Youtube for taking your sweet time…

Thanks to Sean Healy Presents (@webookbands on Twitter, follow them!) for the hookup to Bobby Brown last night. It was spontaneous and amazing and it was a hot mess all at the same time. And shouts to homegirl pregnant in the club, hitting her dougie with a drank in her hand. Oh, yeah. That happened.

So stay tuned, of course I’ll be back. And I hope you are enjoying your 3 day weekend — I made mine 10 days, but hey, don’t judge me!

The IPS Blogs: I’m Hella Late But I Really Love This Song “Lettin’ Go” By Janelle Monae

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jan 19, 11

Just discovered this song from some Muzak in a retail store and I’d never heard it before. I LOVE IT. I immediately had to find out who it was, and once I did, I wasn’t surprised at all that I loved it so much. Apparently it’s from an album of hers called The Audition, and you can hear the MJ influences throughout. Amazing. I love Janelle Monae man.

That’s all, just wanted to share. I figured you guys might enjoy this too!

The IPS Blogs: My Top 20 Tracks of 2010-ish (According To My Last.fm!)…And Why!

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jan 2, 11

      Happy New Year!

I thought of doing a year-end recap post a couple of weeks ago, but honestly, it was Christmas, my birthday (December 24th), and I work in retail…so I took a vacation. Sadly, my memory is so short-term sometimes with music that I just CANNOT keep track of the large amounts of it that I listen to! And honestly, some of my favorite tracks didn’t make this list, mostly because ALL of my computers don’t get tracked by my Last.fm, but hey, this is the best I got! I got 3 computers, so yeah. Hit the jump for the list and a short explanation of the songs and why I specifically liked them. And don’t judge me for some of these choices? LOL.

Also a slight disclaimer — a song or 3 may not have came out in 2010, but hey, this is an imperfect recap and so deal with it!
