    • Jagged Edge’s New Song Won’t Stay In Your “Veins” For Long

Written by Donovan in Videos on Jun 24, 11

So apparently I missed the memo that Jagged Edge had a new album that came out this week called The Remedy and that they are signed to Slip-N-Slide Records of Trick Daddy and Trina fame. Here is the video for their 3rd single (what were the last two?) for “Flow Through My Veins” which I will warn you is a snooze fest.

From the corny faces and swaying (the one that doesn’t sing making waves with his hands), the lack of an actual plot and the random people standing around and staring at each other, this video does nothing to help JE seem relevant. Now that that’s over, let’s talk about the song.

With production from Jim Jonsin (“Motivation”), the song is boring nice, irrelevant heartfelt, and tepid slightly filling. No wonder I missed the buzz. On the plus side… the twins still sound good…

Thursday Tomfoolery: 50 Tyson Hits The Big Time With “Don’t Know How To Dougie”; I Hit The Floor.

Written by The IPS in Videos on Nov 18, 10

Yes, you are seeing this. This is a real video. As in, someone signed this child, put him in the studio, and then put him in front of a REAL camera to shoot a video. I had to blink twice myself!

Special Olympics Theme 2011, because clearly he has no issues with looking a mess. A sad, sad mess.

BUT HOL’ UP!? How Antoine Dodson get on the BET Hip-Hop Awards and 50 Tyson didn’t!? I think 50 Tyson should drop a diss record LOL.

I don’t know what’s worse, the girls agreeing to be on this song with him, or their verses.

And he knows how to Diddi? Diddy? Diddle? Cat in the Fiddle!? That dance he is doing just looks like  the Water Sprinkler on a -0 degrees day in Canada, but….OK.

I just cannot and will not and shan’t and won’t ever and I’m signing off of life right after the end of this sentence!

Jon B. Needs To Read My “Body Language” As I Look For The ‘X’ In My Window…

Written by The IPS in Videos on Oct 6, 10

      Jon.

      Jon B.

      NO!

This song w/ all this auto-tune and just…you looking past your expiration date…

Aside from the fact that you are calling your album Comfortable Swagg (strike 1), you are really trying to be “young”. That’s not what the people want. And you should always wear a hat (strike 2). Lastly, please just fire whoever shot/directed/produced this iChat video with that MS Paint font (strike 3). I was rooting for you, but this right here…

This. Right Here. Is Your. BAD!

Ne-Yo Talks About The Current State of R&B. I Scoff.

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jul 17, 10

OK, seriously, Ne-Yo: pot, kettle, kettle, pot — have ya’ll met?

I respect what Ne-Yo has done as an artist, producer, songwriter, businessman, etc. Am I fan of his music? Cherrypicking through his catalog, sure. He has some decent songs. Most of which I feel might have done better if they were sung by others, but still, I give props where they are due.

However, with this “Beautiful Monster” foolery he has going on lately (which I would posit is NOT R&B, AT ALL), I don’t think he should be casting stones at anyone with that fragile glass house his own music is living in currently.

Now, he’s entitled to his opinion like anyone else, but the fact that he started it off by saying that Trey Songz’s voice is incredible already lets me know that he ain’t about nothing. That was Ne-Yo not shutting any doors down or burning any bridges for Trey’s NEXT record. Catch it!

I’ll be posting up Ne-Yo’s two new videos shortly — aren’t you excited? LOL.

Did YOUR American Idol Winner Curse The Lakers With His Rendition “The Star Spangled Banner”?

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jun 8, 10

Cause he DANG sure isn’t MINE. LOL, I mean, Lee Dewyze was the winner. Good for him. But if this is the best America has to offer, then I don’t blame Simon Cowell for jumping ship.

Was he nervous? Probably. But at the same time, dude has been singing in front of millions on TV for the past like, 50-11 weeks. This was just kinda terrible, pitchy, and uncomfortable to watch. I stopped watching Idol weeks and weeks ago and only watched to see Janet Jackson MURDER EVERYBODY with her performance (and reignite my love for her all over again…that chick bad!). So, when you are tuning into a current talent show to see OLD stars, something is clearly wrong.

Ooh, man, I hope he didn’t curse the Lakers…HA! The National Anthem is never easy but it ain’t that hard either. Wamp.

American Idol has jumped the shark, sliced it up into shark salad, added mayo, and is now being served up in overcrowded school cafeterias all over the US. Please let it die. It’s over. ELLEN IS A JUDGE. I CAN’T. /endrant

BET Awards 2010 Nominations Are Out…Who You Got?

Written by The IPS in Blogs on May 18, 10

And…we can’t even keep our network for ourselves (though half of us haven’t claimed BET since “Teen Summit” got kicked off the air, LOL)!

Jay-Z leads the crop with 5 nominations, followed by Queen Creole, Melanie Fiona, Trey Songz and Alicia Keys with 4 nominations. Performances will be by Trey, Nicki Minaj, Drake & Diddy/Dirty Money.

It will be hosted by Queen Latifah and airs live on June 27th from Los Angeles.

Iono, I am just over all these folks. I just like writing the recaps LOL.

But Justin Bieber?! I mean, how does that even fit in? I get it, but, I don’t. Some of these folks on this list don’t even have albums out (though one could argue we don’t live in an album-based society anymore I guess).

I just don’t understand BET sometimes…but the Bieber thing just screams “we need more eyeballs!” And Nicki Minaj gonna perform a medley of other folks’ songs she’s on…or her (basically a flop) single “Massive Attack”? That’s what I’m saying…

Young Money as an “artist” is even stretching it for me…no one cares Gudda Gudda or Mack Maine! LOL, it’s all about Drake, Wayne and Nicki. I can’t.

Congrats to Maxwell, Chrisette Michele, Estelle and others. I wonder if Sade will show up…

After the jump, check out the nominations and leave your thoughts.

Drake, Let’s Have A Chat About This Album Cover…

Written by The IPS in Blogs on May 5, 10

This is the cover for Drake’s Thank Me Later which is dropping June 15th, 2010.

I personally think it’s a bit headache inducing. Do the iTunes downloads come with a magical decoder key to remove the 3-D effect? LOL I can’t look at it for more than 3 seconds without my eyes crossing. And is that a beard, or just the weird effects and shadowing?

I don’t know man, with all the people that I am sure are throwing themselves at him to work with him, I’m SURE he could have done better. J. Cole’s single cover for “Who Dat” was better than this, personally.

*kanyeshrug* let’s all scratch our heads together…

Drake Is Auditioning For The Next Season Of American Idol, Right?

Written by The IPS in New Music & Reviews on Apr 29, 10

Drake – “Find Your Love” [Download]

Yo, I’m all for an R&B song right? But, Drake is a hip-hop artist. So many questions!

      • Why does this sound like an 808 & Heartbreaks leftover?
      • Why does this sound like Ryan Leslie passed on it?
      • Why is Drake a better singer than Trey Songz who just had an MTV Unplugged?
      • Why is Droopy Drake so sad and melancholy?
      • What is his obsession with hoodies?
      • Is there going to be a Polow Da Don remix to this for the clubs? David Guetta? Soulja Boy?
      • Kanye West produced this. He must be saving the good beats for himself and his next album…because ummm….

Honestly, the first thing that popped in my mind when I heard this that I keep seeing around the nets? “Dreckitude”. Sad dreck, dreadful, drab, a wreck! For your 2nd single? “Over” wasn’t exactly moving the crowds either from what I can tell. I hope this album doesn’t drop the ball, though I’m trying not to judge albums by their singles anymore. Meh.

Was Toni’s Shot At A Comeback So “Yesterday”?

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jan 15, 10

I can’t tell, honestly, if Toni Braxton is even singing live. I mean, at times it does appear like she is, but clearly the chorus is a track. However, her live vocal is indistinguishable from the chorus and her singing. I’m leaning towards the fact that she ISN’T singing live.

And she’s just not trying hard enough either in the facial area. AND I don’t think she’s playing piano for real either.

All of this makes me sad because I love Toni. But not this song. Though it does sound better w/o Trey Songz. It needs to go on the Urban AC channel though.

Thanks be to Walmart for putting her out there cause I sure haven’t seen her anywhere else besides the Soul Train Awards!

      Brian McKnight…Interviews Brian McKnight.

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Dec 6, 09

On random occasions I have flipped past Brian McKnight’s syndicated talk show called, what else, The Brian McKnight Show, and I’ve never really been too impressed with it to stop and watch it.

So lo and behold tonight where I flip past AGAIN and see Brian McKnight interviewing….HIMSELF.

I kid you not. How d-baggish is this? And not only was he interviewing himself and speaking in the 3rd person about himself (2nd, 3rd, I don’t know!), but this mofo also had on sunglasses inside.

Please call Derek Blanks to put that double-ego in a picture and to pop that head and let some of that hot air out BECAUSE I CANNOT ROFL!

Wow, ya’ll please go buy his album so we can get him off TV…at least he ain’t Mo’Nique screaming “BABYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!” *smh*
