    • Explore Music: Sy Smith & Rahsaan Patterson “Feel Like Getting Down”!

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Oct 20, 12

Sy Smith is one of music’s unsung talents — singer, writer, producer, drummer and more. She’s worked with some amazing artists and collaborated with a lot of her equally talented friends while also managing to still put out a few amazing solo albums as well. Her latest Fast And Curious features some amazing songs, the one being featured here is her cover of Billy Ocean’s song “Nights (Feel Like Getting Down)”.

She gives the song a bright visual treatment mixed with some live performance clips of her and her talented friends, such as one of my favorite male vocalists in the world, her duet partner Rahsaan Patterson. Also in the video is singer extraordinaire Lalah Hathaway, and one of my favorite keyboardists around, Cassandra O’Neal, who tours with Prince!

Sy and Rah turn this song OUT — both of their vocals are amazing, as usual. If you’ve never heard of Sy Smith, please get her albums. I love her cover of Edie Brickell & The New Bohemians‘ “What I Am” from her last album Psykosoul as well. Peep the original Billy Ocean song after the jump! What do y’all think? Is it one of those nights you feel like getting down?

Coverage: Rahsaan Patterson Does “The Wilhelm Scream” In The UK

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Sep 29, 11

Hey folks! Sorry it’s been so off and on around these parts — life is busy and time is shorter and shorter these days. Doing the best we can ’round these parts! But we still love you!

Saw this today, and HAD to post it. Definitely a fan Rahsaan Patterson if you’ve read Tha Feedback at all in your lifetime. You know this.

He’s been overseas lately and someone captured video of him doing UK artist James Blake’s “The Wilhelm Scream” LIVE. It is amazing. I already love the song, but having one of my favorite vocalists cover it has just been the espresso to my slow-starting morning.

Get into this singing and vocalizing.

Album Sneak Peeks: Joss Stone Is “Stone’d” And Rahsaan Patterson Is Feeling “Bleu”

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jul 7, 11

Now, Joss Stone is one of those artists that people seem to either love, or hate. Me personally, I loved her album Introducing Joss Stone. It was a well produced, funky, authentically soulful peek into the artist known as Joss Stone. And with Raphael Saadiq at the helm, it was well worth the wait.

Joss Stone has been the target of much criticism and disdain since the beginning of her career from “soul” purists, but in an age of Adele and other UK songstresses topping the US charts, will she finally get her just due? Her new album LP1 is due out in the US July 26th, and is her first on her own label Stone’d Records after many well-publicized label woes with former home EMI. It’s ALSO helmed by the fantastic Eurythmics member Dave Stewart. It’s sounding like it might be a fruitful collab, but time will tell. I’m willing to at least give it a spin! Are you?

One of my personal favorite singers EVER, Rahsaan Patterson, is also getting ready to put out his new record. Bleuphoria is due out in the US on July 19th, and I am very very excited. The album features such luminaries as Lalah Hathaway, Faith Evans, Jody Watley, and more, I’m sure. “6 AM” is my JOINT, and it stays on constant repeat.

In the above clip, Rahsaan talks about the story behind Bleuphoria, and friends and collaborators Lalah Hathaway and Faith Evans also weigh in with their thoughts. This album is sure to be another feather in Rahsaan’s cap, and a prime addition to his already stellar discography. Are you feeling “bleu”? Review coming soon by the way…

It’s In The Morning That The Good Loving Happens, “6 AM” If You Let Rahsaan Patterson Tell It

Written by The IPS in New Music & Reviews on Jun 15, 11

      6 AM www.pinboardblog.com by PinBoardBlog.com

It’s clearly shaping up to be a soulful week in R&B — Ledisi’s project drops, a new Van Hunt song, Jill Scott’s new record took a leak, and also, Rahsaan Patterson’s latest single “6 AM” drops from his upcoming album release Bleuphoria, which is out July 19th in the US!

I’m just going to already give a disclaimer that there is nothing that this man does that I DON’T like — and this new joint is no exception.

“6 AM” is a sexy, sexy, funked out jam that feels so open it’s like he just went into the studio and vibed out. It was co-written with one of my other favorite singers Lalah Hathaway, who is also featured on some of the background vocals. These two artists are SINGER’S SINGERS, and the range of Rahsaan and the way he just feels the notes and fills the spaces with layers, sounds, harmony, and whelps…it is second to none.

Love love this joint and it’s been on repeat since I copped it on iTunes. You should do the same. “Easier Said Than Done” was nice, but this joint is the biz.

Classic Flashback: Rahsaan Patterson – “Stop By”

Written by The IPS in Blogs,Videos on Mar 16, 11

Favorite singer. One of his funkiest songs. Dude is unsung and if you put him together with Lalah Hathaway, it’s MAGIC.

I suggest you go get his whole catalog if you like this song. You will NOT be disappointed. Oh, and if you ever get the chance to see him live, GO!

Rahsaan has a new album coming soon too. Stay tuned to the Feedback for details, cause you know I will get ‘em!

New Music: Rahsaan Patterson Returns With “Easier Said Than Done”

Written by The IPS in New Music & Reviews on Nov 24, 10

One of my favorite singers ever, Rahsaan Patterson, has returned! His new song “Easier Said Than Done” is a slinky electro-funk of a jam that features his trademark layers & harmonies, falsetto, and penchant for great lyrics.

His new album Bleuphoria doesn’t seem to have a release date as of yet, but as soon as I know, you’ll know. What do you think of the song? I am feeling like it’s just a teaser of what is to come, and I can’t wait.
