    • Raheem DeVaughn Distracts From His Talent With “She’s Single” Trey Songz (NSFW) Video Tribute

Written by The IPS in Videos on Nov 30, 10

Raheem DeVaughn can sing, so why all the lowkey Skinemax porn being floated around as a “music video”?!

And someone on Twitter pointed out that Trey Songz has been doing this — right. But Trey Songz sounds like he is mating with goats half the time, so that is understandable!

Raheem’s last album Love & War: The Masterpeace was really underwhelming as a body of work compared to his other releases. It tended to be too “pop” if you will, as Raheem’s voice is definitely soulful and his material was also a bit more along those lines as well. I feel like now, instead of going back to a more organic sound, he’s going to jump the fence completely into a more pop sound and feel.

Anyway, this is from his latest mixtape (I’m starting to hate these things more and more….) called Jackin’ 4 Beats. This song itself is his spin on a Lil’ Wayne song called “Single”. If you want his mixtape, you can get it here. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. I’m so done — first Keri Hilson slanging it around to the highest tipper and now Raheem doing skinflicks for downloads. Cassie might as well drop her sex/mixtape now…

Raheem Devaughn Promotes Lips & Good Times In The “Bedroom”

Written by The IPS in Videos on Oct 12, 10

Raheem Devaughn’s last album The Love & War Masterpeace dropped and most people seemed to agree that while Raheem is a vocal talent, his latest release seemed to be a bit too glossy and overly pop for the purists that consider him one of today’s most soulful (and vocally skilled) voices.

“Bedroom” features….Raheem’s lips. That’s about it. LOL not to misconstrued as a commercial for Lipchap, the video has hints of an old school Hype Williams video to me. Oh, and the legs are nice to of the female lead, walking through the city. That’s all I got!

Was this a song that you liked or had even heard before today?

Raheem DeVaughn Takes His Show To Hollywood With Jimmy Kimmel “I Don’t Care” Performance

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jul 22, 10

All I know is that the drummer’s pocket was nice and the bass player was giving me everything that I needed! Phew, this band funked this up. Cause I didn’t really “care” about this song the first time I heard it. But they did this justice last night on Jimmy Kimmel. Raheem DeVaughn’s latest album The Love & War Masterpeace is in store now. While I don’t think it resounded as much with his fans as his last album, dude is still a great entertainer and vocalist, as is evidenced by this clip.

Was his artist dude using an iPad!? Wow, that’s dope.

Shouts to my boy Chris on the keys!

What Do We Think About Phil Ade’s “Always There”?

Written by The IPS in Blogs on May 4, 10

Phil Ade Starting on JV Mixtape [Download]

“Always There” immediately starts off with a nice beat that caught my attention, and the dark and lovelies in the video definitely KEPT my attention. Phil Ade is  signed to Raheem Devaughn’s 368 Music Group, and has been generating  a buzz in the DMV area as a result of his collaborations with Mr. DeVaughn.

This selection is taken from his Starting on JV mixtape, which you can get as a free download from the link above. I checked it out and there are a couple of nice joints, some great beats and some great lines from Mr. Ade. He’s just starting out but if he keeps up with the wit and excellent beats like this one above, he will go somewhere. What ya’ll think?

      I Don’t Care About Raheem DeVaughn’s “I Don’t Care” If He Doesn’t

Written by The IPS in Videos on Mar 30, 10

Wow, from black militia “Bulletproof” and an album full of interludes and exhortations by Dr. Cornel West to the pop-sheen and throwaway treatment of “I Don’t Care”. Usually I rocks with Raheem but this single and video feels like a blatant attempt at some 106 & Pork Barrell love and attention.

Does he sound good? Sure. But everything from the fashon, to the treatment of the video (gossip rags talking about him/his relationships/his activities) to his impassioned hand gestures just left me feeling empty and wanting to go turn on “Guess Who Loves You More”.

Raheem used to come from a deeper, artistic and more wholesome place lyrically and topically — something that his new album seems to lack wholly. While on its face the music isn’t BAD or anything, it just comes across as cold sometimes and overly stylized for crossover consumption. He fights against this in spurts on his latest album, and while “Bulletproof” won the battle last time, I guess in balance “I Don’t Care” had to win. This is the result.

      Raheem DeVaughn’s Performance Is “Bulletproof”

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Mar 9, 10

Raheem DeVaughn’s talent cannot be denied, and many sites and blogs are calling his latest album The Love & War Masterpeace a classic, or if not that, a pretty great album. My jury is still out — I’ve been sitting with it so that I can write a comprehensive review.

In any case, dude’s an excellent live performer. “Bulletproof” isn’t my favorite song of his as of late, but he still sounds good singing it. Compare this performance to, say, Jaheim’s performance on Mo’Nique’s show a couple of weeks ago — much more interesting and a lot better sounding LOL.

Raheem’s latest album is in stores now — have you bought it? Share your thoughts on it if you have.

New Music: Estelle, Raheem DeVaughn & Aloe Blacc

Estelle – “Freak” (Prod. by David Guetta) [Listen & Download]

Estelle’s ready to unleash her inner-freak on the US with her second album All of Me, which is due soon. “Freak” is the first single from the album, and it features Canadian rapper Kardinal Offishal. The video should be dropping soon and was directed by Nabil, who’s recently done a lot of work with Kanye West. The kids are going to love this — I can see ya’ll emailing me the hot mess youtube videos right now.

It works for Estelle though, though it’s a great departure from her “American Boy” sounds — I think this sounds more like her early UK work, which a lot of US folks aren’t necessarily as familiar with. The “Back To Life” sample on the hook seems, odd? It works but I always get to that part and cringe a bit. This’ll have to grow on me! David Guetta is everywhere…

Raheem DeVaughn – “The Greatness” Feat. Wale [Listen + Download]

Raheem DeVaughn’s The Love & War Masterpeace is out tomorrow, but a new joint has hit the nets from the project which features Wale. “The Greatness” is an easy breezy swing & synth affair with some choice words by Wale. If you didn’t like “Bulletproof”, chances are you will still be able to find something that you like from Raheem’s latest project. You can go view the stream and snippets at Amazon if you’re really interested.

Aloe Blacc – “I Need A Dollar” [Listen & Download] [Buy] [Official Site]

Aloe Blacc has the theme song for HBO’s new show “How To Make It In America” which also features the ever expanding his money Kid Cudi. “I Need A Dollar” is a soul joint from a hip-hopper that dabbles in Latin rhythms, soul vocals and more. Some have called him the “West Coast Mos Def”. “I Need A Dollar” is all Aloe featuring prodution by Truth & Soul. This sounds like something from the 80′s-era Blaxploitation days — like straight out of “American Gangster” or something, doesn’t it? It’s different but it definitely is catchy and makes you sit up and pay attention. I’ve featured Aloe once or twice, he’s a pretty engaging and interesting underground MC. Hopefully this’ll get him more shine though.

Raheem DeVaughn’s Latest Mixtape Past Its Expiration Date?

Written by FirstGentleman in New Music & Reviews on Jan 29, 10

Mr. February aka March Madness Mixtape by Raheem DeVaughn [Download]

Raheem DeVaughn, the self proclaimed “R&B-hippie-neo-soul-rockstar”, has dropped a new mixtape entitled Mr. February aka March Madness. And WHAT a bit of madness it is.

This was supposed to be a buzz generator for his next release Love and War MasterPeace (I see he didn’t’ learn from Amerie’s similarly titled album). The mixtape is a culmination of covers, remixes and what I’d assume to be left over studio material.

New Music: Raheem DeVaughn, Ryan Leslie, Jack Splash & Monica

      Raheem DeVaughn – “I Don’t Care” [Listen & Download]

I love Raheem DeVaughn, and vocally, there’s not many R&B singers out right now with as pure of a voice as he has. Just the right touch of originality to his voice and a tone that’s all his with a mix of just great vocals are always a highlight of his music. “I Don’t Care” is maybe from his next album The Love & War MasterPeace, which drops in February. He performed on Alicia Keys’ live streaming Billboard.com concert, and he was on point and awesome. I look forward to this. I listen to “Bulletproof” all the time actually…

Ryan Leslie – “Don’t Try To Call Her Now” [Listen & Download]

More music from Ryan Leslie. Still pleasant as ever. Dude is like the R&B version of MOR (middle-of-the-road) radio music. Never bad but never outstanding either. This joint however is extra decent even though it sounds like anything else of his. He tends to keep all his music in the same key so that he can “sing” them. Not bad, but it gets a bit redundant…

      More after the jump…
