    • R. Kelly To “Write” A Book, Even Though He Can’t “Read”…

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Dec 14, 09

      R. Kelly is about to release a book and he promises to “show the tears, fears and sweat.” Now I find this to be especially interesting since he’s already confessed to being “functionally illiterate” — maybe this should have been announced BEFORE he made the announcement about doing a book. No one really writes books anymore anyway, it’s all about them ghostwriters. If it was hip-hop, we’d have him slayed LOL.

According to an announcement released Wednesday, the book, due in 2011 from SmileyBooks — the book imprint of radio/TV host Tavis Smiley — will be authored with celebrity writer David Ritz, who has collaborated on autobiographies with Ray Charles, Smokey Robinson and Aretha Franklin.

“I’m writing this book as Robert, not R. Kelly,” the singer said in announcing the untitled book. “I’m tired of being misunderstood. I will show you the tears, fears and sweat. I will open my heart and reveal the good in my life as well as all the drama. I want to tell it like it is.”

Among the topics Kelly — who recently claimed he is functionally illiterate — is slated to cover in the book are the pain of losing his mother, the stories behind such hits as “I Believe I Can Fly” and Michael Jackson’s “You Are Not Alone,” as well as the six-year child-pornography trial that nearly overtook his music career for much of the past decade and ended in his acquittal in 2008. (Source)

Alright, so, have we separated the man from the music? Is it too soon to say that you listened to/bought his latest record Untitled? Plenty of celebs have tweeted about liking the record…I have listened to it, I gotta admit. What ya’ll think?

I’ve not yet sorted out all my feelings about R. Kelly LOL.

New Music From R. Kelly, Alicia Keys, Kelis & Dondria

      R. Kelly – “Pregnant” Feat. Tyrese, Robin Thicke & The-Dream [Download + Listen]

This song is pretty ridiculous lyrically, but the vibe of the music and song would be dope with some other lyrics. I mean, R. Kelly is seriously too old for this. You know who should be singing this? Tank. Robin Thicke fits the most on this track, and The-Dream just…even the verse  he is singing *air quotes around singing* just makes me cringe. Waaaamp. Tyrese was in “Baby Boy” so this sounds like something he’d jump on LOL.

He also another one called “Crazy Night” that leaked…this one features/was produced by Rock City and he even adopts their island accents. I cannot. And I like Rock City. I think the thing that needs to be changed about both of these songs is…removing R. Kelly.

      Tyrese & R. Kelly Tell A Deep, Sad Story…

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Sep 17, 09

      Tyrese

Tyrese calls into his SayNow with his boy R. Kelly on the line and they share a deep story about deaths in the family and whatnot.

Luckily, Black Ty does NOT make an appearance, dropping 16 bars while he has a chance to shine LOL.

Make sure you listen to the end though, it’s some deep stuff. You never know what your favorite stars are going through.

Let’s hope these two can make some great music though!

Live Performance: R. Keri Does “Number One” on Kimmel

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Sep 4, 09

      [youtubeImYJl9uxnR8]

Pretty standard performance, nothing too special to write about besides Keri Hilson sitting on that bike like she was ready to get the hell home to take off her wig and eat some Chunky Monkey ROFL.

This song…I can see its appeal for the most part, but it still does nothing for me. R. Kelly’s best latest work has to be Whitney’s “I Look To You”.

It still amazes me how he can write such a beautiful moving song like that and then move on to something like “Number One”. Between him and Chris Brown and all the other kinda felonized singers, I don’t know who to listen to. No one is perfect though, so let’s just enjoy the music…

I am KIND of looking forward to hear what Robert’s going to put out into the musical universe…

Music Video: R. Kelly – “Number One” Feat. Keri Hilson

Written by The IPS in Videos on Aug 18, 09

R, Kelly’s back, and I guess he feels there’s been enough time for us to either have forgiven him or forgotten about all his scandal. Do you separate the man from the music? It’s an age old question. What will you do?

But if there is one thing R. Kelly can do, it’s craft a catchy song. And that’s the ONLY reason Jive has stuck with him — he makes them money LOL. He turns in for his first official single “Number One” with Keri Hilson. The video is a classy, coordinated affair, light on effects and whatnot. Mostly a performance video of the two of them either vibing together or vibing to the song separately.

There are a couple of inconsequential things that bother me — like Keri’s hammer pants + Beyonce’ fan = fashion tragedy LOL. Oh and R. Kelly saying “axe” and him bowing like someone from an Asian culture when he says “gracias baby!” (Spanish!)…what?! Come on LOL.

This song itself is kinda tepid to me, but people seem to like it. It’s not bad, but it feels like reheated Kelly leftovers. I tend to skip it because it becomes background music.  “R. Keri baby!” make a good combo though, maybe he can executive produce her next album because it’d be a more solid, thought out affair, I’m sure.

Visually though, the braids are gone, but R. Kelly still has his attraction to sparkles and purple. The city shots/studio shots are nice and warm, and even R. Kelly’s lighted LED backdrop is just understated enough to not be annoying. Thumbs up!

      Album Covers: R. Kelly’s “Untitled” + Tracklist

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Aug 14, 09

      R. Kelly’s latest album “Untitled” is set to drop September 29th as of the latest reports that I’ve seen. It’s set to feature a slew of people…and a lot of songs not written or produced by R. Kelly. Hmm. Interesting…

I thought I could get into his first single with Keri Hilson (“Number One”) but it really does nothing and goes nowhere for me personally.

Check the tracklist after the jump…can Robert come back strong this time around?

New Music: R. Kelly – “If I Were A Boy” (Remix)

Written by The IPS in New Music & Reviews on Nov 24, 08

      R. Kelly

      R. Kelly – “If I Were A Boy” (Remix)

Oh, I guess R. Kelly decided to come up from air out of the McDonald’s ball pit to actually do some music.

As much as I hate Kells, I like what he did with this melodically. He flipped that in a hot way and as they say on American Idol, “made it his own” LOL. Watch Beyonce’ steal that ascending idea that he used in the hook.

I am gonna hate myself for saying this, but wouldn’t it be hot if Kells did a mixtape? Did his own spin on stuff that’s out right now? I think I’d like that overall…

I don’t know, how ya’ll feel about this? Or am I going to hell for even posting an R. Kelly anything? Props to Lowkey

      Ne-Yo + R. Kelly = BFF’s 4ever

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Sep 16, 08

      Ne-Yo

Remember when R. Kelly allegedly kicked Ne-Yo off that tour a while back because Miss Honay was stealing all his fans and no one cared about Robert’s pedo-thrusting and weird antics, so they just went to see Ne-Yo?

Well, Ne-Yo finally cashed out and is now ready to spend his dollars. Don’t you hear him calling you?!

Ne-Yo would like to set the record straight.

      “I don’t hate R. Kelly,” the R&B superstar insists.

Yes, Ne-Yo did sue Kelly’s tour promoter, Rowe Entertainment, after he was booted off Kelly’s 2007 tour (allegedly for upstaging the so-called star of the show). But, having just won $700,320 in damages, Ne-Yo can feel magnanimous.

“It wasn’t even really a feud,” he told us over dinner at Philippe. “It’s all in the past. I think I’m going to use the money and open up a club or a cigar bar in Atlanta.” (Source)

Ne-Yo’s new album is out today. Oh, and don’t forget to check out R. Kelly’s special tonight on BET where he speaks up and tells everyone that he really DID marry Aaliyah back in the day. Because, seriously, no one cares about Robert or anything he has to say!

      SAVE OUR CHILDREN!

Who plans on buying Ne-Yo’s album today?

I Just Hope It Wasn’t The Black Ones.

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jun 13, 08

      R. Kelly

Nignorance and indecisiveness abound in the R. Kelly court trial deliberations…I haven’t talked about it much because, well, Mr. Hairbraider deserves his day in court and whatever he gets I guess. But this right here? My soul weeps gently like Lil’ Mama looking at her SoundScan reports:

Two jurors are having issues at R. Kelly’s child pornography trial. One sent a note to the judge after three hours of deliberations today (June 13) that reads: “How can I be removed and go home? I really need to.”

Judge Vincent Gaughan called attorneys into the courtroom, told them about the note but adjourned before dealing with the matter. The jury had stopped deliberating for lunch.

Earlier in the morning, the judge called attorneys in to discuss another juror, who became frustrated by slow service during dinner the night before and started banging a bottle on the table and cursing.

That juror was allowed to remain on the panel after other jurors indicated they could continue working with him. (Source)

LOL let’s talk about this, shall we?!

Can we get an explanation of WHY you really need to go home!? NO, I need you to keep that a** in the seat and give R. Kelly his due! How many want to bet she got bribed Law & Order style with $20K for her debt and a new Bentley? ROFL.

But the second one — how you gonna be getting crunk because you are HUNGRY?! ROFL. I can just see it. Dude start banging on the table, “WE WANNA EAT! WE WANNA EAT! FEED ME DAMMIT!” Someone sneak him a 100 Calorie pack of Wheat Thins and calm his hongry self down! Please don’t let him be black and related to Bone Crusher. Watch him be like “sorry ya’ll, my sugar was low.”

Lawd, if this trial ends in a hung jury or some ish, I am moving to the UK!
