    • R. Kelly Sings Into The Mic(s) On “When A Woman Loves”

Written by The IPS in Videos on Aug 30, 10

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=_W0K_EkDoHk

      R. Kelly channels his inner old school Ed Sullivan Show and also “Coming to America” (around the 4:35 mark) in the video for his latest musical opus “When A Woman Loves” from the upcoming Love Letter album.

Problems and history aside, this song is pretty fresh. I’m just glad that it ain’t Trey Songz, Rihanna, or the usual ilk. It has a real pure sound (despite the person singing it, some would argue). I’m so conflicted, so I will let ya’ll decide what you think!

      R. Kelly Rolls With A Motown Sound For New Single “When A Woman Loves”

Written by The IPS in New Music & Reviews on Aug 24, 10

I’m still confused as to if we are listening to R. Kelly again or what because people are still clearly listening to his records and supporting him. Are we separating the man from the music in this day and age or are just giving black women everywhere the finger? Chris Brown has started his comeback trail…R. Kelly stays in the spotlight…should we forgive without forgetting or condemn forever?

“When A Woman Loves” harkens back supposedly to a time of the Motown sound and true soul vocals and music. I guess — this kind of purposeful tact always feels fake and forced to me. Robert is a singer though whose voice amazingly seems to find a way to adapt to many different types of singing. This song is taken from his upcoming album Love Letter, and a video has already been shot. He also another TWO albums in the pipeline, one called Zodiac and another called Epic. They don’t call him the Pied Piper for nothing…

Clearly R. Kelly Does Not Care About Christians With This New Record “Tongues”

Written by The IPS in New Music & Reviews on Jul 12, 10

      R. Kelly is all kinds of sacrilegious lately LOL, and this new leaked record with Bangladesh and Ludacris on the track is no exception. Last album he went there with “Religious”, and in this one, he claims to have the ladies/girls speaking in tongues. Ludacris said he got them doing the Buddhist chant.

LOL OK, I’m not that deep. But R. Kelly singing at the top of his range and the constant chanting in the background threw me off. I felt like the Illuminati were putting a spell over my iTunes to magically start purchasing R. Kelly’s catalog with my credit card while I slumber LOL.

Is R-ruh working on a new album? I don’t think a person like him ever stops working on music anyway…

      R. Kelly Does “Sign Of A Victory” For The 2010 World Cup Crowd

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jun 13, 10

      R. Kelly wrote and produced the official song for the 2010 World Cup and performed it in South Africa for the kick-off crowds. This is a true return to form for R. Kelly indeed, hitting the world stages and all that. I’m sure it’s a “sign of victory” that he is able to still get work, but I guess at the end of the day music speaks for itself, right?

However, him with that Joan of Arc gold hood and that choir with them sparkling-waters-of-the-Nile choir robes, HAHAHAHA I just died!! All that straight from the Bobby Jones Gospel Collection. Who lied!?

      R. Kelly knows better though — he looks hot as HELL in all that shiny black sequin everythang. LOL! I think I’ll just close my eyes and listen to the song (if anything), cause I’m blinded by the glory that is those robes! Some Black choir in the US will have those by next Easter…

      R. Kelly Wants You To Buy His Record, But He’ll Be Alright Either Way…

Written by The IPS in Videos on Mar 29, 10

      R. Kelly put out 2 videos recently — one for “Echo” (which is more of a low budget affair and is above), and one for the Jack Splash produced “Be My #2″ (which is basically some ratchet captured footage from some club date). Really? LOL.

Yes, dude is probably singing in front of a green screen — in his house, I’m willing to proffer. LOL!! I can’t.

I think Jack Splash deserved better than this for “Be My #2″, but at this point, I’m sure R. Kelly is just putting stuff out because A) he’s bored, B) Jive is maybe not letting him have anymore budgets for new videos and C) he has money to blow.

After “Number One”, I didn’t hear anything about this record. “Be My #2″ was a personal favorite of mine, because I like Jack Splash. There are still people who won’t go near an R. Kelly record though…so, I’m sure that is probably playing a part of why these videos are so simple and cheap.

Oh well, he still getting “I Believe I Can Fly” money — hate him or love him, he’ll be around longer than say, Sean Garrett. LOL. “Be My #2″ is after the jump.

      R. Kelly To “Write” A Book, Even Though He Can’t “Read”…

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Dec 14, 09

      R. Kelly is about to release a book and he promises to “show the tears, fears and sweat.” Now I find this to be especially interesting since he’s already confessed to being “functionally illiterate” — maybe this should have been announced BEFORE he made the announcement about doing a book. No one really writes books anymore anyway, it’s all about them ghostwriters. If it was hip-hop, we’d have him slayed LOL.

According to an announcement released Wednesday, the book, due in 2011 from SmileyBooks — the book imprint of radio/TV host Tavis Smiley — will be authored with celebrity writer David Ritz, who has collaborated on autobiographies with Ray Charles, Smokey Robinson and Aretha Franklin.

“I’m writing this book as Robert, not R. Kelly,” the singer said in announcing the untitled book. “I’m tired of being misunderstood. I will show you the tears, fears and sweat. I will open my heart and reveal the good in my life as well as all the drama. I want to tell it like it is.”

Among the topics Kelly — who recently claimed he is functionally illiterate — is slated to cover in the book are the pain of losing his mother, the stories behind such hits as “I Believe I Can Fly” and Michael Jackson’s “You Are Not Alone,” as well as the six-year child-pornography trial that nearly overtook his music career for much of the past decade and ended in his acquittal in 2008. (Source)

Alright, so, have we separated the man from the music? Is it too soon to say that you listened to/bought his latest record Untitled? Plenty of celebs have tweeted about liking the record…I have listened to it, I gotta admit. What ya’ll think?

I’ve not yet sorted out all my feelings about R. Kelly LOL.

New Music From R. Kelly, Alicia Keys, Kelis & Dondria

      R. Kelly – “Pregnant” Feat. Tyrese, Robin Thicke & The-Dream [Download + Listen]

This song is pretty ridiculous lyrically, but the vibe of the music and song would be dope with some other lyrics. I mean, R. Kelly is seriously too old for this. You know who should be singing this? Tank. Robin Thicke fits the most on this track, and The-Dream just…even the verse  he is singing *air quotes around singing* just makes me cringe. Waaaamp. Tyrese was in “Baby Boy” so this sounds like something he’d jump on LOL.

He also another one called “Crazy Night” that leaked…this one features/was produced by Rock City and he even adopts their island accents. I cannot. And I like Rock City. I think the thing that needs to be changed about both of these songs is…removing R. Kelly.

      Tyrese & R. Kelly Tell A Deep, Sad Story…

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Sep 17, 09

      Tyrese

Tyrese calls into his SayNow with his boy R. Kelly on the line and they share a deep story about deaths in the family and whatnot.

Luckily, Black Ty does NOT make an appearance, dropping 16 bars while he has a chance to shine LOL.

Make sure you listen to the end though, it’s some deep stuff. You never know what your favorite stars are going through.

Let’s hope these two can make some great music though!

Live Performance: R. Keri Does “Number One” on Kimmel

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Sep 4, 09

      [youtubeImYJl9uxnR8]

Pretty standard performance, nothing too special to write about besides Keri Hilson sitting on that bike like she was ready to get the hell home to take off her wig and eat some Chunky Monkey ROFL.

This song…I can see its appeal for the most part, but it still does nothing for me. R. Kelly’s best latest work has to be Whitney’s “I Look To You”.

It still amazes me how he can write such a beautiful moving song like that and then move on to something like “Number One”. Between him and Chris Brown and all the other kinda felonized singers, I don’t know who to listen to. No one is perfect though, so let’s just enjoy the music…

I am KIND of looking forward to hear what Robert’s going to put out into the musical universe…

Music Video: R. Kelly – “Number One” Feat. Keri Hilson

Written by The IPS in Videos on Aug 18, 09

R, Kelly’s back, and I guess he feels there’s been enough time for us to either have forgiven him or forgotten about all his scandal. Do you separate the man from the music? It’s an age old question. What will you do?

But if there is one thing R. Kelly can do, it’s craft a catchy song. And that’s the ONLY reason Jive has stuck with him — he makes them money LOL. He turns in for his first official single “Number One” with Keri Hilson. The video is a classy, coordinated affair, light on effects and whatnot. Mostly a performance video of the two of them either vibing together or vibing to the song separately.

There are a couple of inconsequential things that bother me — like Keri’s hammer pants + Beyonce’ fan = fashion tragedy LOL. Oh and R. Kelly saying “axe” and him bowing like someone from an Asian culture when he says “gracias baby!” (Spanish!)…what?! Come on LOL.

This song itself is kinda tepid to me, but people seem to like it. It’s not bad, but it feels like reheated Kelly leftovers. I tend to skip it because it becomes background music.  “R. Keri baby!” make a good combo though, maybe he can executive produce her next album because it’d be a more solid, thought out affair, I’m sure.

Visually though, the braids are gone, but R. Kelly still has his attraction to sparkles and purple. The city shots/studio shots are nice and warm, and even R. Kelly’s lighted LED backdrop is just understated enough to not be annoying. Thumbs up!
