    • Coverage: B. Slade Does A Vocally Titillating Cover Of Prince’s “If I Was Your Girlfriend”

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Dec 11, 12

Innovative, outspoken and vibrant artist B. Slade has aimed his considerable vocal at covering a classic Prince song (and one of my favorite Prince songs ever), “If I Was Your Girlfriend”.

      B. Slade gives the treatment a more laid-back swing groove that highlights his jazzy yet solid vocal. It’s missing all of the deep, sexy, sultry and prominent bass licks of the original, but the focus should really be on B. Slade’s vocal. His range and layering alone are worth a couple of extra listens.

It’s a different approach that is wholly different from most other versions, but B. Slade’s light, airy, distinct and expansive range handle the vocal exceptionally well.

What do you think of this cover? One of my favorite covers of this song will always be Daniel de Bourg’s version, which I posted a while ago.

Explore Music: Andy Allo Might Not Be A “People Pleaser” But Her Music Does That Job For Her

Written by The IPS in Videos on Nov 8, 12

Prince has a new protégé, the beautiful Cameroonian artist Andy Allo, has hit the funkin’ ground RUNNING with her first single from her upcoming sophomore album Superconductor. An INSTANT groover once you hit play, “People Pleaser” has a funky vibe, a funky, fun and choreographed video, and just a straight up CRANKIN’ vibe. I’m loving this. I’ve listened to it twice in a row.

Andy Allo joined Prince’s New Power Generation, and as such he’s taken her under his wing, co-writing, executive producing, and mentoring Andy as well on her new album.

      Get into those horns!

This is a soulful funky cut with a sexy twist that hasn’t been seen in a while. I’d love to see her and Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings on tour — talk about a soul explosion.

What do y’all think of Andy Allo’s new video?

Hit up Andy on Twitter and her site, and tell her Tha Feedback sent you!

Prince. Live. On TV. That’s All I Need To Say.

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Apr 14, 11

Prince is hitting Los Angeles for a 21 one night stand, and I have GOT to get there. Like, if Michael Jackson is dead, and Whitney Houston’s voice is shot, Prince is one of the last remaining people I will stan for. For real.

Prince took to George Lopez to kick off his L.A. festivities and performed 3 songs and rocked the house!

He did a new song called “Lay Down”, he did “The Beautiful Ones”, and then he did a FANTASTIC cover of D. Train’s “You’re The One For Me” with Sheila E. And….he played a snare drum. And he THREW the mic stand on “The Beautiful Ones” like…it was a bag of ‘tato chips!

I love Prince. You should too. And…I love D. Train! LOL I am just so shocked he performed that joint!

Happy Valentine’s Day — Classic Flashback: Prince – “P Control”

Written by The IPS in Blogs,Videos on Feb 14, 11

Some of ya’ll need p control, also known as “Pussy Control”. ROFL as tawdry as it is, “P Control” is one of my favorite Prince songs, EVER. It was taken from his Gold album, which also had his hit “The Most Beautiful Girl In The World” on it.

So the fact that Prince performed a song called “Pussy Control” in 1994 ON VH1…..HELLO! Come on!!!

Get into this song. Happy Valentine’s Day from Tha Feedback. And get into Prince’s cautionary tale ladies. ROFL.

Corinne Bailey Rae Gets Her Prince On With “Wanna Be Your Lover”

Written by The IPS in New Music & Reviews on Jan 12, 11

Corinne Bailey Rae – “Wanna Be Your Lover”

Yes, Corinne can do no wrong lately. I just re-purchased The Sea because my original copy was accidentally corrupted some how, and I am still loving it. “Closer” is just the kind of jam I needed from her. She’s now putting out another EP called The Love EP and it features Corinne’s voice over songs crafted by her musical inspirations, including but not limited to, Prince. It drops in February on the 14th, just in time for Valentine’s Day.

What do you think about Corinne’s cover? I think she nails it pretty much. Again, the imports are doing soul better than the homegrown team…

Classic Flashback: The Time – “Get It Up”

Written by The IPS in Blogs,Videos on Oct 27, 10

The Prince-produced, composed, and written debut single from Morris Day & The Time was a FUNKY gem that never gets old. TLC covered it for the Poetic Justice soundtrack too. Prince was all over this track — you can hear him in the backgrounds and even in the lead vocal. Morris Day came later and added his own vocal on top of Prince’s. “Get It Up” has one of the funkiest and memorable bass lines and openings to this day to me. I can randomly hear this and just immediately start dancing.

And this was during Prince’s nastier days, and you know Morris Day was a freak…so this song is about exactly what you think it is!

      Happy “Hump” Day! LOL.

Coverage: Daniel De Bourg Vocalizes Prince’s “If I Was Your Girlfriend”

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Oct 20, 10

Yo…this is SO fresh. I can’t even front, before I clicked play the first time, I was a little skeptical about how this would sound. Dude doesn’t have the LOOK of a singer maybe? Not sure what made me think that, but I clicked play and was pretty amazed! Daniel De Bourg has got the goods ya’ll.

“If I Was Your Girlfriend” is one of my FAVORITE Prince songs EVER. Seriously. And to cover it badly would be sacrilege. But Daniel does a great job — and guess what?! THERE ARE NO INSTRUMENTS. He does it all with his voice. That’s pretty crazy.

He’s from the UK, and either he’s been on X Factor (their version of American Idol, which is also coming to the States soon) and has gotten some recognition for that, or is trying…I can’t tell exactly. But someone like this dude doesn’t stay anonymous for long. He’s got a look but more importantly, he has the voice. I’ve been saying it for months — the UK is way more soulful than America right now. It’s shameful.

Say What!? Prince Releasing A New Album…In Belgium?

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jun 28, 10

If you notice that shirt Prince had on tonight at the BET Awards 2010, you will see it was a picture of him. Wearing that same outfit almost. ONLY Prince! And my bet recap is coming later…I think. Maybe. I don’t know, if time permits LOL.

However, if you saw the back side (which I did notice earlier), it said “20Ten” and the the “ten” was inside the 0 of the 20. I was wondering if that was referring to something special, and sure enough, I stumbled upon this:

Prince’s new CD 20Ten (some title) will be released first through a Belgium newspaper on July 10. An interview took place with the newspaper which teases the release.

Other newspaper deals may follow as deals were trying to be reached. Warner Bros. was mentioned as releasing the CD to other countries not participating in the newspaper giveaway. More than likely that means the U.S. as when he did the giveaway before, the U.S. was not part of it. [Source]

Say word!?! Prince’s post heyday music has been sketchy at best — and while he will always be PRINCE, I think we can only take so much mediocre-ish music. But, he’s a legend, and “Black Sweat” was my ish, so I will of course download this illegally since it may or may not be coming to the US…

Don’t know if this is a rumor or not, but I guess we will find out soon enough!
