    • Nelly’s “Gone” Needs…To Get Gone.

Written by The IPS in Videos on Mar 14, 11

Nelly’s infatuation with off-key singing and “catchy” pop singles continues to ring the alarm on his descent into irrelevance. Pair that with the fact that while he was “Gone” from the scene, Nelly-lite AKA Flo-Rida came and stole all his mojo and you have a perfect storm of why no one really cares about Nelly’s latest album release. Hell, did you even know he had a new album out?

Sure, he may sell a couple of singles here and there, but I feel like the music world at large has given a collective “whatever” to Nelly’s 5.0 album. Nelly went back to what worked for him in the past on this new album, only to find out that…it may not work again. This “Dilemma” rehash is actually OK, but it’s just so cheesy and corny lyrically. Add Nelly’s singing on top of that and you just want to be like “FAST FOWARD PLZ.”

He tried it though! Kelly looks good, but you know, I’m biased…

Nelly Needs You To “Move That Body”…To The Nearest Music Store…Because…

Written by The IPS in Videos on Oct 28, 10

If this is the best that Nelly can do, I’m going to start calling him Cassie. Cause he’s got a long way to go…

And this video — how original and/or interesting is it to watch a bunch of dudes stand around and watch some girls fight? That’s it? And then I get to watch T-Pain do a jig? And Akon mew painfully?

T.I., Jermaine Dupri, and a host of others make cameos, but honestly, this video is stupid. It just is.

It makes me miss Flo-Rida. At least the girls had on boots with fur and we could point and laugh.

Album Covers: Kanye West & Nicki Minaj Both Get “Surreal” While Nelly Gets More Irrelevant

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Oct 18, 10

Kanye’s released the cover for his latest musical opus My Beautiful Twisted Dark Fantasy, which is due out November 22nd.

      Kanye. Boy, you so artsy!

LOL I got to say, this is kind cool, but at the same time, very disturbing. What would Dr. Phil say?

He claims it was banned but you know what, let’s not act like Kanye can’t do whatever he wants. Have you seen his music videos for this cycle? Right…

Nicki Minaj looks like that Lil’ Kim “doll” from the “How Many Licks” video that were had being made in that factory scene. You know what I’m talking about, right!? Check the video. Is it just me? OK. Right. I know Nicki Mirageoftalent is growing on ya’ll. But I guess. LOL. Pink Friday also hits stores on November 22nd.

Nelly’s latest album 5.0 drops on November 16th, and no one cares. About him, his songs that all sound like Flo-Rida rejects so far, and the fact that he ain’t even shirtless. The ladies only pay attention to him because of the that, and the dudes…well I don’t think we ever paid attention to Nelly before or after the “Tip Drill” video. Soooo…who’s buying this?

Some Random Thoughts Of Foolery From The IPS On This Monday…Get Into It!

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Sep 27, 10

Mariah Carey fell in Singapore. Either she is pregnant, or she is realllllly big. I hope she’s pregnant. And even more importantly, WHY IS EVERYONE HOLLERING!? Backgrounds…wow. And Mimi talked the whole time….

      • I hear Keri Hilson and Ciara are getting into it again lowkey about them being compared to each other. Keri, well, Ciara, I’m sorry — Ciara WRITES her songs. You just have perfected the art of making that a** pop. So, no matter what happens, I think you still lose. Cause one day that a** gone drop, pop a blood vessel, and you won’t be able to get it back up again Matrix-style. Keri, even if her voicebox is blown out in a freak studio accident still will be making money from her songwriting! Sat down.
      • Fantasia almost killed herself, got more press, and still, her album has yet to cross the 200K mark yet. I’m going to say that unless she gets pregnant by old dude and get his name tattooed on her forehead for good measure, she won’t be making platinum anytime soon.
      • Faith Evans’ new video is STILL terrible ya’ll. I’m sorry, I tried to watch it again, and them praise dancers just make want to cry. Remember when Faith was chubby and was in a roller skating rink for the “Love Like This Before” video? I’d almost rather have that all over again.
      • This Nelly “Just A Dream” video is really letting me know that Nelly’s time has passed. Where is Murphy Lee and that dude that wore the half-hockey-mask thing? They need to remake “Humpty Dumpty” or some other asinine nursery rhyme so we don’t have to hear Katy Perry anymore. At least it’d be catchier than…wow, who’s the latest hot pop-rapper? Flo-Rida is somewhere ripping up all the “Brandy & Flo-Rida 4 Ever” pictures he scribbled on his “Right Round” royalty statements…
      • Brandy is on “Dancing With The Stars” which I don’t watch, right? Right. All I want Brandy to do is dancerie herself Mary J. Blige style into a studio booth, make up with Rodney Jerkins, call Keith Crouch and Rahsaan Patterson, and make some music. Girl, you went from “America’s Got Talent” to “Dancing With The Stars” and all we got left with is Nick Cannon and Monica belting for her last little bit of vocal life with that Deniece Williams cover. Save us!
      • Lil’ Wayne has a new album coming out this week. It’s called I’m Not A Human Being. YES, WE KNOW. You’re a Martian, an alien, the Pussy Monster, etc. You should have called it I’m Not A Free Man and GAVE it out for free. How is he recording music and releasing it and profiting on it? Isn’t there some law against this? Where is Judge Judy when you need her?
      • Did ya’ll hear about this Rick Ross sex tape? There’s nothing I want to see less on this Earth than Rick Ross porking it up with some poor groupie. Literally. Rickay, please work to get a Ricky MARTIN body before you start flaunting what the good/bad God gave you. I’d rather look directly into the sun…
      • The Diplomats are reuniting. So does that mean hi-speed sampling is going to come back into favor and popularity? And…who are the rest of the Diplomats besides Jim Jones and Cam’ron? Maybe that’s me being a West Coast dude, but if they ain’t helping to clean up the oil spill or brokering peace in the Middle East, I veto this wholeheartedly!
      • Kanye West released another song on G.O.O.D. Friday called “So Appalled”. It’s alright — I think I am just MORE happy to hear a track WITHOUT Charlie Wilson! I mean, is Nate Dogg still not up and moving about? Didn’t Ronald Isley just get out of jail? Is Stevie Wonder on sabbatical from life? Who drug up Charlie Wilson? He only sounds good with Snoop and Justin Timberlake – duh.
      • Are we EVER going to see the video for Alicia Keys’ and Beyonce’s “Put It In A Love Song”? Or did Mashonda hack into Alicia’s email and delete that ish forever? Maybe that is the one good thing Mashonda has done in her life…
      • Chris Brown has a new song called “Yeah”. I think I am just gonna move to Europe anyway since all of OUR R&B artists are stealing the sound. I bet something ELSE is popular in Europe by now…Chris Brown’s comeback is heavily anticipated. I get it, but…not really. All that aside, this song is him angling for another Doublemint commercial. THAT was the beginning of the end!
      • Is anyone REALLY going to BUY these new R. Kelly CD’s?! Inquiring minds and small children of the female persuasion the world over want to know.
      • Tonex’ AKA B. Slade has a really dope song that I like right now, “Going Away”. What I REALLY want is CNN to bring HIM on as a pundit or something in this whole Eddie Long debacle…

That’s all I got right now. Feel free to weigh in, disagree, vent, or whatever. Just some random thoughts for ya!

Nelly’s Return To The Top May Be “Just A Dream”, Indeed

Written by The IPS in Videos on Sep 24, 10

Nelly’s recorded a new album and is just trying to act like Flo-Rida hasn’t stole his whole shine and steez. LOL. “Just A Dream” is the first single/video off of Nelly’s 5.0 album that is due out later this year. It’s a hip-hop “Inception” affair — except this song isn’t hip-hop. At all. It’s like, a really bad country song.

The video would slightly be more interesting if it wasn’t in black & white, but not by much. This all just seems to be a bit too high-brow for me. It’s as if Nelly is working hard to do “something different”, but is backing himself into the same rounded corners that he has been stuck in for the past 2 or 3 albums. We need to believe Nelly wants us to be fans again. All this video was missing was Leonardo Di Caprio and someone pinching themselves to wake up from this boring dream…

Are you looking forward to a new Nelly album?

Music Video: Nelly – “Let It Go (Lil Mama)” Feat. Pharrell

Written by The IPS in Videos on Aug 17, 09

I think this is a nice visual look for a video but…definitely not changing the feeling that Nelly is straight up phoning it in this album around. This channels to me “Drop It Like It’s Hot” by Snoop on so many different levels….

Pharrell’s minimalist (for the most part) beat is paired with an equally sparse video treatment. Lots of literal interpretations from the song in the video (marching band, women, graphic references to the song, etc.). I think the Fat Katz worked with what they had though thematically, and this is the end result.

Nelly…I’m thinking that this song may gather some steam because of the summery (though summer’s almost over) and simple feel of the beat. Targeted for crossover no less, but I think Nelly has pretty much lost his core fans this time around. And no amount of albums with the St. Lunatics will ever get him him his-hop cred back, especially not after the tragedy that was “Party People” with Fergie.

      Video: Ashanti – “Good Good”

Written by MissOMyGoodnezz in Videos on Jul 17, 08

I am probably the furthest from an Ashanti fan. In fact I’m about thiiiiiiiiiiiis close to hating her lol. I must say though, this is a cute little song for the summer and an even cuter video. Ashanti looks cute, she’s got the side burns tamed and her voice actually sounds really nice. Someone has been hitting up their vocal coach for extra lessons and I.AM.NOT.MAD! Even her boo Nelly is looking good. Note to Ashanti: “Don’t leave your man arould me” lol.

Anyway, all in all I’m loving the 70′s pin-up theme, the lyrics are all in fun and I can tolerate the video. Now, if my man catches me cleaning the house in some of those get ups, he’s not leaving the house either!!! All my ladies know what I’m saying lol. This video gets the MISSOMYGOODNEZZ stamp of approval!

New Music: Solange, Teairra Mari, Chris Brown (x2), Nelly

Written by The IPS in New Music & Reviews on Jul 14, 08

      Solange

Solange/Sol-Angel & her fake band – “Wanna Go Back”

Solange, you make me wanna go back and listen to “I Decided” with this mess. I’m sorry, this song is not as hot. Actually, now that I think of it, I haven’t really liked ANY of the other songs that have leaked so far. “I Decided” stays in rotation though. The way Solange sings actually works with that track, but it’s kind of annoying and LOL-worthy on these other songs. She got that Trey Songz Syndrome — it’s not that they CAN’T sing per se, but their voices just aren’t all that enjoyable most times. Magic happens on one song and avoids them the rest of the album.

      More after the jump!

Just Fade To Black With This Already, Nelly!

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jun 18, 08

      Nelly Single Cover

Rap-Up has the exclusive with this one…

      They can keep it.

And so can Nelly. Again, I will say this — this song is terrible. Is he really serious!? No one has pulled the plug on these shenanigans yet?

If he keeps going this way, his J’s will be quickly on Ebay to help support Ashanti’s flagging career. But atually, maybe Nelly should just stick to movies…his music is going nowhere fast.

Have ya’ll heard his “Bay Bay Bay” song? Mac Dre will rise from the grave to smite him for that one, I swear.

Video: Nelly – “Stepped On My J’s” Feat. JD & Ciara

Written by The IPS in Videos on Jun 12, 08

REALLY? No, REALLY!? Nelly, you are dead to me. Officially. You are better than ish. Do ya’ll remember “E.I.”? That was good accessible poppy rap. But this ish…J’s?! Really!? In this economy, you should have done a rap about Steve & Barry’s, because that’s all my a** can afford. If Nelly thinks him being shirtless is working voodoo on anyone, he needs to sat down and reassess his life because…NO. Rick Ross…RICK ROSS…walks around looking like a Burnt Snack Attack with Tig Ole Bitties and he will probably outsell you with you putting out crap like this. FAIL FAIL FAIL F——-.

Ciara looks like Olivia and JD being on this song is just EXTRA. After “Party People” I thought Nelly would get his fill of putting out this slop, but clearly he thinks he’s on to something. I think the metal in his grill is affecting the little bit of brain he has bouncing around in that head of his.

Jordan’s? Really? *sigh* I think the most exciting thing about this video is Lil’ JJ, the comedian boy, and the little anklet purse Ciara was rockin’ in her “Ode to Goodies” choreography shots. That is HOT, I want to get one for my pet poodle! NOT.
