    • New Music From J*DaVeY, Missy Elliott & Nicole S. W/ Pharrell

Written by The IPS in New Music & Reviews on Dec 26, 09

J*DaVeY – Boudoir Synema: The Great Mistapes
      Download + Listen Here

I love this! It’s just funky and electro and it has attitude and it’s free. Merry Crimmuh! I’ve posted a couple of songs from this “mistape” (mistake + mixtape = mistape) and I tell you, I haven’t stopped listening to it since it dropped yesterday. My favorite joint is “Permission” with it’s Prince-esque/Funk-ish vibe and simple straight-ahead jam sensibility. Also good is “Crawl All Over”. Please download this ASAP!

Don’t You “Regret” Not Copping Letoya’s Album? You Should!

Letoya Luckett – “Regret” (Remix) (Feat. Missy Elliott) [Listen + Download]

Look! An actual remix, with a new beat and everything! This is almost unheard of these days. Did Missy produce this as well? Not sure…

I gotta say too, I’m liking this. I love how they changed up the vocals just slightly and just twerked that beat out. Missy did that. I kind of wished maybe Luda would have recorded some new vocals too, it would have made this even better.

I’m so glad Missy ain’t screaming all over this as she is apt to do. And seriously, Lady Love was a solid album if you haven’t copped it already. What do ya’ll think of this remix?

      Where Is Missy’s Album?!

Missy Elliott – “Put It On Ya” Feat. Teyana Taylor (Prod. by Neptunes) [Listen + Download]

Man, Missy can make ya dance. And when she ain’t hollering and whatnot, she still goes hard!

I will be a Missy fan forever. This song is sort of missing SOMETHING, can’t put my finger on it, but if they played this in the club it’d get your attention, though you can’t exactly DANCE to it if you aren’t doing something choreographed LOL. Teyana Taylor makes an appearance, but it’s really hard to differentiate the two if you ask me.

Of course, don’t forget Missy speaking in Pig Latin. I haven’t heard THAT since MIDDLE SCHOOL. Sweet Minty Jesus she so random LOL.

I still bump “Best, Best” that song that leaked that she did with Danja…

Music Video: Queen Latifah – “Fast Car” Feat. Missy Elliott

Written by The IPS in Videos on Oct 19, 09

“The high that you’re giving me…” is giving ME hives LOL!

Nah, I love Queen La. I really do. But that new album of hers is TERRIBLE. I mean, really, Cool & Dre are great producers and all but some of the material is just downright bad. This song included. And I thought she was supposed to be “rapping” this album!?

Queen tries to pull it out in the last seconds of the 4th quarter by having CAMEOS GALORE in this video, including such luminaries as Robin Thicke (and was that Paula Patton?), Common, Jadakiss (I think) and more. Random.

She rides around town in a fast car, reflecting on her success, morals, standards, etc. Then, she’s racing at the end. And Missy! RAPPING! Let me just say that I love Missy and I miss her entertaining raps and music. I need her to get it together. She’s the only reason I was interested in this song even remotely.

And I will end this by saying that I had all kinds of flashbacks to “Set It Off” when she was getting into that car in the beginning. Sorry. Don’t judge me!

Monica Needs To Give Missy Free + New Music “Betcha…”

Written by The IPS in Blogs,New Music & Reviews on Aug 27, 09

I’m getting a little worried about Monica’s album from the tracks that have leaked.

Monica – “Betcha She Don’t Love You” leaked recently, and it’s really just Missy taking Evelyn Champagne-King’s song of the same name and flipping it with Monica rapping (*coughs*) and Missy of course hollering all over it.

Then there was “Lemme Know” which was obviously a demo leak that featured Jazmine Sullivan ALL over the backgrounds. It was probably a demo with Jazmine that her and Missy co-wrote, but it became so painfully obvious that Jazmine was just KILLING Mo’ on it that I had to stop listening to it. And besides Jazmine’s vox, the song was MORE Missy and MORE hood Monica, talking about her not getting “to go to the Jay-Z show last night.”

I want Monica to be street & sassy but mature. I want Missy to sat down outside of the booth and gimme a break & eat a Kit Kat bar. I want Monica to step it up and give us some material that we can rock to for more than 5 minutes on the radio! There’s no denying her talent, even though I’m more of a Brandy fan :).

Can she do it? What do you think? She’s got a reality TV show coming up on BET and is sure to hit the promo trail, but I hear that Alicia Keys is working on a new album for the 3rd/4th quarter…my money is with Alicia…

Music Video: Ciara – “Work” Feat. Missy Elliott

Written by The IPS in Videos on Jun 23, 09

Ciara turns in another dance extravaganza for her latest single from Fantasy Ride, “Work”. Never one to rest on the words of her haters, she twurks out the cheeks and gets her high fashion couture on in this clip.

Featuring Missy Elliott (I mean, WHERE THE HELL IS MISSY’S ALBUM!?) and her shiny suit pants or whatever the hell she is wearing, Ciara turns this into an exercise video. Seriously.

In the song Missy says something about “this song is for the clubs” — umm…the kids are going to love this but I can’t see this being played at like, a R&B/urban joint, ya know?

Ciara definitely looks the part, but again, “Work” is not strong enough to me to make a last impression. This might get some play on the charts though, but how much are you really gonna spin this in a hip-hop club?

What do you think of Ciara’s new single? I’m a little 50/50 but I like the whole construction yard/outdoor look.

      Missy Elliott Covers Billboard

I think Missy looks GREAT. Minus that jacket she stole from Fat Joe ROFL. Too much M, too much.

I love Missy though and her new album comes out in August. Her new single, produced by Danjahandz, is called “Best, Best” and they are shooting a video next week.
I still bump “Lose Control” LOL.

New Music: Nas, Teairra Marie & Jazmine Sullivan

Written by The IPS in New Music & Reviews on Apr 22, 08

      Nas
Nas – “Be A Nigger Too”

Now, I’m a Nas fan. I own a lot of Nas records, and that’s saying a lot for me, because I don’t buy a lot of hip-hop. But this…wow…*dies and cranks dat with the Fat Boys*. I mean, what happened to those days of Heavy D dancing on top of a bus? Did he just say “critics eat a dick”!? This song…very inflammatory. Do ya’ll remember when Michael Jackson got in trouble for that one song of his that said “kike me” or something like that? Yeah, OK, Nas is about to get strung up with Kelis’ bras between two light posts in Times Square and flogged by EVERYONE. AND I MEAN EVERYONE. LOL, while I commend him for being….I don’t know…confrontational, I’m still not sure of what the point of all this is….you listen and tell me what YOU think. I GET it, but, I DON’T GET IT!

      Teairra Marie
Teairra Marie – “No, No, No”

Does anyone remember this chick? No, well, let me help you out. See, once upon Def Jam had two princesses. One was signed to The Roc, and one wasn’t. One was chocolate, one was Bajan. One put out a song with a hip-hop feel, the other was doing faux island songs that sounded a mess. One was giving Jay-Z head time, one wasn’t! Guess which one blew up and which one faded into obscurity? Exactly. Poor Teairra Mari (or as I called her back then, T. Error, cause she just couldn’t get it right)! She came out with some hot pants and some PG-13 lyrics that had some cussing and mature themes (“I ain’t have no daddy around when I was growing up / that’s why I’m wild and don’t give a *what*), and then…was gone. Now she’s signed to Interscope I hear and Sam from That Grape Juice offers up this joint. It’s not bad…still has some of the same “edgy” lyrics LOL. I feel like she’s gonna catch KelRowItis. However, her voice sounds decent, though this song isn’t breaking any barriers…she might could have another chance if she gets THE RIGHT music. What ya’ll think?

      Jazmine Sullivan
Jazmine Sullivan – “I Need You Bad”

I am a confessed Jazmine Sullivan stan. In an era of Rihanna’s, Ashanti’s & Cassie’s, Jazmine is…THE TRUTH. This girl has vocals out of this world, and has this smoky Kim Burrell meets Toni Braxton meets Nancy Wilson thing going on that I love and adore. Last I heard from her, she told me she was finishing up her album to be released on J Records, but now that Clive Davis is out, let’s hope her and J. Hud are still gonna get release dates. This song is very Lauryn Hill and Missy produced it — it sounds very island ish. I’m not one for forced patois (see that terrible Jafaican accent Mariah uses on “Cruise Control”), but this sounds so 90′s-ish and before Lauryn went carazay from the island stick that I kind of love it. Jazmine can do no wrong vocally, though I feel like every now and then she can lay it back cause we know she GOT IT!
