    • What Do We Think: If You’re A “Super Model”, B. Howard Orders You To The “Dance Floor”

Written by The IPS in New Music & Reviews on Jun 10, 11

New singer B. Howard is not really new, at all. I’ve been listening to this track “Super Model” for MONTHS. I really like it a lot. It’s most likely no doubt due to the fact that he sounds very MUCH like Michael Jackson. I think B. Howard makes some hot uptempo dance-tinged R&B. He’s a bonafide star in Japan, and comes from a very musical lineage (his mother is singer Miki Howard, grandmother is Josephine Howard of legendary Gospel group The Caravans), and has worked and had credits with some of today’s top stars [official site].

He seems to have a style and look that is all his own, and his overly poppy music may not be your cup of tea. However, I find myself listening to his joints nonchalantly, repeated mere minutes after they’ve gone off. But you know, I miss MJ and I am a sucker for a decent pop song.

Check out his joint “Super Model” above and after the jump, peep his new video for his latest single “Dance Floor”. His album Genesis should be hitting soon.

I really want to hear what you guys think about him. Between him and Austin Brown (who is MJ’s nephew, son of Rebbie Jackson), I think they are great tributes to the legend that has “gone too soon.” Austin Brown’s “Target Practice” is on my playlist right next to “Super Model”, truth be told!

Classic Flashback: Michael Jackson – “Ghosts”

Written by The IPS in Blogs,Videos on Dec 20, 10

This is probably a repost, but I woke up this morning jamming to this song in my head. It was another Michael Jackson and Teddy Riley collaboration that I thought was funky and jamming, and was super slept on. It was taken from the HIStory greatest hits album, and the full version of the movie/video was written by Stephen King and had bits of his movie “Thinner” included for good measure.

It’s one of my many favorite MJJ songs. I really liked the New Jack Swing era of Michael Jackson and Teddy Riley. Dangerous is one of my favorite Michael Jackson albums. RIP Michael. And I WILL NOT be co-signing that new album, so don’t EVEN look for it here! NO. It’s terrible. Period point blank.

We Waited 10 Years For “Kush” Dr. Dre. Was Our Living In Vain?

Written by The IPS in Videos on Dec 10, 10

Dr. Dre is back and basically takes that T-Pain “Rap Song” video template and applies it to his new video. About weed. With Snoop Dogg. And Akon.

I waited 10 years for this?

Oh and Akon, well, this dude is having the best career ever! A Michael Jackson video AND a Dr. Dre video is one week? I’mma quit hating on dude, because clearly he drinks from the Music Industry Well of Immortality — while Dr. Dre bathes in it. LOL, and Snoop with them pigtails…why can’t we grow as a people!?

And this may be sacrilegious, but I prefer T-Pain’s song/video over this one, if I had to choose. Under gun point….

      Detox is coming soon.

I Need Someone To “Hold My Hand” Through This Michael Jackson Fiasco

Written by The IPS in Videos on Dec 9, 10

I’m sorry, I hate this. And I want this bedevilment to quit! This Michael album has leaked and it is subpar — then this video comes out…

Could you even call this a video? It feels more like a random a** collage of some thrown together things with Akon and some random Michael Jackson-ish things.

      I want no parts!!!!!!!!!!

And….Akon!? Akon has somehow discovered Lady GaGa, duetted with Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston, and who knows what else. I could have sworn when he first dropped that Akon was a one hitta quitta. Clearly I was wrong, but I just…………..

Between this and Quincy Jones’ butchering of “P.Y.T.” with his remake, I just think the ghost of Michael Jackson has stepped into the light, never to return or even look back over his shoulder. I hope he has.

Classic Flashback: Michael Jackson Does “Dangerous/Smooth Criminal” On MTV in 1995

Written by The IPS in Blogs,Videos on Nov 11, 10

When that “new” Michael Jackson song called “Breaking News” hit the web, my soul looked back and wondered how Sony was trying to get over. And despite their objections to the allegations that the song isn’t Michael Jackson singing, I don’t believe them! Or how about this — even though they’ve verified the vocals with EVERYONE and their MAMA, I’m going to say on behalf of the fans that if this IS Michael Jackson, we don’t want it. You should have left this demo mess buring under Bubbles’ cage at Neverland.

We all know Michael Jackson was a perfectionist. When I heard this song, I was pretty sure it was a Teddy Riley production, and it immediately brought to my mind one of my favorite Teddy Riley/MJ collabs from the Dangerous album, “Dangerous”. Dangerous is actually one of my favorite MJ albums.

Michael performed “Dangerous” with a little bit of “Smooth Criminal” mixed in at the MTV Awards back in 1995 with Lisa Marie Presley looking on from the audience. Watch him work. Long live MJ!

Michael Jackson Better Do His Good Singing, Even If He Is Dead, Or I’m Going To Be Mad!

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Nov 5, 10

Michael Jackson’s first posthumous album Michael hits stores 14 days before my BIRTHDAY on December 14th, 2010. It features all new tracks apparently, and Teddy Riley is rumored to have done some production work as well. The first single “Breaking News” will be streaming for a week starting on Monday. You can bet your bottom dollar I will be posting that here! THE ONLY person I stan for, in life and death, is Michael Jackson. Well, and Jesus Christ of course, but that’s a given! LOL.

Although many details remain unclear, Sony have announced that the album will be called Michael, with a trailer providing more information due to appear on michaeljackson.com today. There are also plans to stream Breaking News, a full song from the album, on Monday for one week. The song was originally recorded in 2007 but has only been recently completed.

Other tracks on Michael are thought to have been recorded at various studios in LA and Las Vegas, with Jackson believed to have been collaborating with artists such as Akon, Lady Gaga and RedOne at the time of his death. Hardcore Jackson fans will be relieved to note the cover art is suitably ludicrous – a Kadir Nelson oil painting depicting two naked cherubs placing a crown on Jackson’s head, against a background mural featuring the singer at various stages in his career…(Source)

And in other news, Katherine Jackson is set to be on Oprah and it should be airing this upcoming week as well…Katherine and the family were alleging that some of these songs were imposters, but I think there was a midnight hour compromise and things were worked out. We will find out…

This album cover is EPIC though! LOL.

Quincy Jones Does Not Care About You And Your Love Of Michael Jackson’s “P.Y.T.”…

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Nov 3, 10

So let’s get right to it — Quincy Jones is QUINCY JONES. So if Quincy Jones wants to remake a song (especially one he was involved with), he can do that. He’s Quincy Jones. If Quincy Jones called me up and said “I want you to remake ‘Chocolate Rain’ and I want you to sing it backwards in Auto-Tune at the highest pitch you can”, I’d do it! Hell, it’s Q!

However, that doesn’t detract that at the end of the day, this remake is sh***y and should have never seen the light of day.

I’m not mad at either Robin Thicke or T-Pain because we know what “they” do. I’m mad at Quincy. He organized this, he co-signed this, and I am going to get my Ouija Board to dial up Michael Jackson real quick so I can put on my red letterman jacket and go mess with Quincy tonight in his sleep!

Maybe he’s old and in the sunset of his GOOD mind or what, but….this is unacceptable. Whenever the old guard tries to mix with the new guard, something always runs afoul of good taste, and this is just another unnecessary example of that.

And T-Pain has taken to Twitter and releasing an un-spellchecked statement deriding his “haters”. On some levels I agree with him, but….yeah.

Hit the jump to see T-Pain’s “statement”.

Classic Flashback: Michael Jackson – “Working Day And Night”

Written by The IPS in Blogs,Videos on Oct 20, 10

One of my favorite Michael Jackson songs, and it’s so apropos to my current situation. I’m in midterms until the end of the week, so posting will continue to be light!

RIP MJ. And guess what? They are putting out an MJ box set of ALL of his music videos!

A collection of all of Michael Jackson’s music videos will be released on November 22nd as a three-DVD set called Michael Jackson’s Vision, the Jackson estate and Epic/Legacy Recordings announced today. Vision will feature over 40 music videos from Jackson’s solo career, including the unreleased clip for 2003′s “One More Chance” (off Number Ones); the full version of his legendary “Thriller”; “Bad,” which was directed by Martin Scorsese; plus rarer clips like the eerie “Ghosts,” Jackson’s “Say Say Say” duet with Paul McCartney and director Spike Lee’s alternate version of “They Don’t Care About Us.” (Source)

I will be pre-ordering this. No question. Some unreleased tracks are also supposed to be coming out next month, but I haven’t heard much about that…

What Do We Think?: Austin Brown Takes Aim For Stardom, Jackson Style, With “Target Practice”

Written by The IPS in New Music & Reviews on Oct 3, 10

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

So the son of Rebbie Jackson (who really only had one “hit” herself — the Michael Jackson produced and background sung “Centipede”, which went hard BTW), nephew of Michael and Janet Jackson, is launching out into the music business on his own with his first single “Target Practice”. The song was produced by Rodney Jerkins of Darkchild fame, and his first video was shot by Tom DeSanto, a dude who produced “Transformers”. Not bad for your first single.

The song itself is alright — it gets extra catchy towards the end, which is what Rodney specializes in if you ask me. Austin Brown SOUNDS (and looks!) like a Jackson, what with their trademark high-pitched voices, though I do hear lots of glimmers of auto-tuning throughout. However, he plays many instruments, is a songwriter, and is also a dancer. So those Jackson genes run deep! From nose, to face, to voice. Skrong.

What do you think — is Austin going to have staying power? Or is he going to come and go like Kristinia DeBarge? Remember her? Exactly…the offspring don’t always fare well…but the song is slightly catchy enough. We will see how the video fares. If the kids like it…

Check out the jump for an interview he did with MTV, and you can cop the download if you want at his site.

THE IPS Blogs: RIP Michael Jackson. One Year Ago Today…

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jun 25, 10

I still can’t believe that Michael Jackson is dead.

Michael Jackson and his music were one of the main reasons I decided to make music my career. I will never forget where I was when it was confirmed that MJ was actually DEAD. I sat speechless for 20 minutes, just saying “OMG Michael Jackson is dead…OMG….” over and over. I remembered how sad I was ANYWAY that I wasn’t going to get to go to London to see him on his last tour “This Is It”.

However, I went and saw “This Is It” in a theater by myself so I could enjoy it and fully envelop myself in it. I cried. And I still cannot watch that movie again yet to this day. I get emotional just listening to MJ’s songs still. I was going to do a blackout today on the blog in honor, just like I did when he died. But, I’ve been slacking anyway being that this is the first week of school, so I decided to go ahead and go forth. “Don’t Stop Until You Get Enough” is what he would say.

One of my musical heroes is gone but is never forgotten…his style, influence, and creativity will live on forever. Long live The King of Pop. He was anointed, a visionary, and more! We miss you Michael.

I hope you are “letting it sizzle”.
