    • Keri Does Litter Duty To Keep America “Beautiful” At Wrestlemania 27

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Apr 7, 11

Yes, Keri Hilson sang “America The Beautiful” at Wrestlemania 27, and the Hulk didn’t smash her!

She got a little bit ahead of the music and tried to do a little too much with them runs…………….a couple of times actually. It must have been a delay in the arena? But I thought these folks learned that they should just lip-synch to the pre-record?

Them runs were Keri’s undoing though LOL. Out of a scale from 1-5, I will give this a 2.75. LOL. Yeah, I did it.

International: What Do We Think About Chipmunk’s “In The Air”?

Written by The IPS in Videos on Apr 4, 11

Chipmunk is a UK rapper who’s climbing the charts and and who teamed with American R&B siren Keri Hilson for this collaboration “In The Air”, which is on his new album due out in the UK in April called Transitions.

While I’m not a HUGE fan of UK rap, this song is not BAD, but I don’t it will crack the US charts if they ever really wanted to release it here. He’s also competing with fellow UK rapper Tinie Tempah for US/UK dominance. The few songs I’ve heard by both, and I have to say that my dollar would probably go to Tinie Tempah.

This song is not as catchy as say, Taio Cruz’s songs that were imported our way. And I don’t know what to say about Keri Hilson Miskerried Babies and that blonde wig. But you know, maybe they like ‘em blond over there. Whatever helps record sales woman. What do y’all think, either about her wig selection and/or the song? LOL! Speak!

Keri Hilson Channels Motown Soul And Panache On Letterman Performance

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jan 5, 11

I wonder what Diana Ross is thinking somewhere right now. Either “Where are my good EATING sweatpants w/ the elastic!?” or “Did she steal my dress from the ‘American Dream’ set?!” In any case, Keri Hilson performed, strutted, bouffant and all, during this performance like her next record advance depended on it. And it did LOL! Cause No Boys Allowed didn’t exactly get her all the sex she wanted in the Champagne Room of the Billboard charts.

To whit, Keri actually delivered a pretty solid performance until she started to flub the choreography a bit at the end. But vocally, she sounded fine, even though this song is essentially one note all the way through seemingly. “Pretty Girl Rock” is still an inauthentic attempt at self-empowerment, all while big upping the fact that Keri herself is “pretty.” It tends to annoy me LOL.

A lot of makeup, and some gracious backup dancers and singers to carry most of the load, I loved how Keri stayed in character till the END though! LOL I ain’t mad. She gonna audition to be an extra on the next episode of “The Game” or something, watch….

Keri Hilson Tries To Out-Ciara Ciara Even Though Ciara Is No One To Outdo Right Now Either…

Written by The IPS in Videos on Nov 29, 10

P-Poppin in a bank vault hunh? I bet that bank smelled like dirty dollars, badussy, sweat, lacefront glue, and despair!

So confused about this album. Has she reached her limit and decided that being a pretty girl that rocks doesn’t get the D at night? Or was this just an excuse to kiss Columbus Short. Girl, have your manager call his agent and save us 6 minutes into the depths of your hoedom! I love Keri Hilson, and she fahn, but I was just like, WHAT IS GOING ON!?

And that Tasha Smith School of Acting has GOT to go. Faith Evans…ma’am. Dawn, ma’am. JoJo said her lines and was like, “I’m the only one of these hoes that has ACTUALLY been in a movie.”

No no and more no. You tried, we no buy. Please take Meerkat the Don and head back into the lab cause this single…Rick Ross just makes me want to fight his life!

All that was missing was the “Matrix” dance and Black Jesus talking asking “What That Thang Smell Like”. *done*

Don’t Hate Keri ‘Cause She’s Beautiful And She Likes To “Rock” Ya’ll…That’s So Slavery Times!

Written by The IPS in Videos on Nov 12, 10

While this song is basically esteeming Miss Keri Baby and boosting her up for the world to see how pretty she is via radio (ha!), it’s a cute song, right? I can’t hate it, though I do think the message is a bit off base. I’m sure in interviews this song will be “for all the girls out there who are going through this same struggle…”. You know how they do it.

I liked the homage to the girl groups and singers before her, especially that T-Boz wig she was rocking. Oh my, that was LOL! Keri’s got the face that can take on a different characters though, and she does it pretty well. Yes, Keri is fine. Yes, she can “rock”. I can see all the little girls whose parents are making Youtube cover videos even now — “Pretty Girl Rock” vs. “Whip My Hair”. And of course there will be the girls who got rocks thrown at them that are going to be running around singing this song too. GET READY!

Keri’s latest album No Boys Allowed will be out Dec. 21st. I think I prefer “Pretty Girl Rock” over “Breaking Point”, both in terms of songs and videos. Cause I can watch Keri do the Janet Jackson and “Creep” dances all day…

Yes BET, “Black Girls Rock”, But Ledisi And Peaches Stole The Show!

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Nov 8, 10

I mean…really Ledisi?! You just gonna come through and kill it like that though!? Come through and just slay us all and then just…roll that neck and hit that note? OK, she ain’t playing fair!

No slight to the other ladies — I’m not normally a fan of Marsha Ambrosius’ voice in large doses, but she even did a couple of things I liked during her portion of the song as “Safronia”. Kelly Price was the most underwhleming to me, but that was fine, because the song is written to build with Ledisi’s character “Peaches” being the apex of the songs emotion. And Jill was….Jill! Never mad at Jill, and she looked great. I thought they did an EXCELLENT version of Nina Simone’s “Four Women“! If you’ve not heard the original, listen up here.

After the jump, see the rest of the performances from Jill Scott (“Golden”), Fantasia (“Brand New Day” from The Wiz & “I’m Every Woman” by Chaka Khan), Keyshia Cole (“I Remember”), VV Brown (“Shark In The Water”), Shontelle (“Impossible”), Monica (“Still Standing”), and Keri Hilson (“Breaking Point”). And you know I got something to say…

Some Random Thoughts Of Foolery From The IPS On This Monday…Get Into It!

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Sep 27, 10

Mariah Carey fell in Singapore. Either she is pregnant, or she is realllllly big. I hope she’s pregnant. And even more importantly, WHY IS EVERYONE HOLLERING!? Backgrounds…wow. And Mimi talked the whole time….

      • I hear Keri Hilson and Ciara are getting into it again lowkey about them being compared to each other. Keri, well, Ciara, I’m sorry — Ciara WRITES her songs. You just have perfected the art of making that a** pop. So, no matter what happens, I think you still lose. Cause one day that a** gone drop, pop a blood vessel, and you won’t be able to get it back up again Matrix-style. Keri, even if her voicebox is blown out in a freak studio accident still will be making money from her songwriting! Sat down.
      • Fantasia almost killed herself, got more press, and still, her album has yet to cross the 200K mark yet. I’m going to say that unless she gets pregnant by old dude and get his name tattooed on her forehead for good measure, she won’t be making platinum anytime soon.
      • Faith Evans’ new video is STILL terrible ya’ll. I’m sorry, I tried to watch it again, and them praise dancers just make want to cry. Remember when Faith was chubby and was in a roller skating rink for the “Love Like This Before” video? I’d almost rather have that all over again.
      • This Nelly “Just A Dream” video is really letting me know that Nelly’s time has passed. Where is Murphy Lee and that dude that wore the half-hockey-mask thing? They need to remake “Humpty Dumpty” or some other asinine nursery rhyme so we don’t have to hear Katy Perry anymore. At least it’d be catchier than…wow, who’s the latest hot pop-rapper? Flo-Rida is somewhere ripping up all the “Brandy & Flo-Rida 4 Ever” pictures he scribbled on his “Right Round” royalty statements…
      • Brandy is on “Dancing With The Stars” which I don’t watch, right? Right. All I want Brandy to do is dancerie herself Mary J. Blige style into a studio booth, make up with Rodney Jerkins, call Keith Crouch and Rahsaan Patterson, and make some music. Girl, you went from “America’s Got Talent” to “Dancing With The Stars” and all we got left with is Nick Cannon and Monica belting for her last little bit of vocal life with that Deniece Williams cover. Save us!
      • Lil’ Wayne has a new album coming out this week. It’s called I’m Not A Human Being. YES, WE KNOW. You’re a Martian, an alien, the Pussy Monster, etc. You should have called it I’m Not A Free Man and GAVE it out for free. How is he recording music and releasing it and profiting on it? Isn’t there some law against this? Where is Judge Judy when you need her?
      • Did ya’ll hear about this Rick Ross sex tape? There’s nothing I want to see less on this Earth than Rick Ross porking it up with some poor groupie. Literally. Rickay, please work to get a Ricky MARTIN body before you start flaunting what the good/bad God gave you. I’d rather look directly into the sun…
      • The Diplomats are reuniting. So does that mean hi-speed sampling is going to come back into favor and popularity? And…who are the rest of the Diplomats besides Jim Jones and Cam’ron? Maybe that’s me being a West Coast dude, but if they ain’t helping to clean up the oil spill or brokering peace in the Middle East, I veto this wholeheartedly!
      • Kanye West released another song on G.O.O.D. Friday called “So Appalled”. It’s alright — I think I am just MORE happy to hear a track WITHOUT Charlie Wilson! I mean, is Nate Dogg still not up and moving about? Didn’t Ronald Isley just get out of jail? Is Stevie Wonder on sabbatical from life? Who drug up Charlie Wilson? He only sounds good with Snoop and Justin Timberlake – duh.
      • Are we EVER going to see the video for Alicia Keys’ and Beyonce’s “Put It In A Love Song”? Or did Mashonda hack into Alicia’s email and delete that ish forever? Maybe that is the one good thing Mashonda has done in her life…
      • Chris Brown has a new song called “Yeah”. I think I am just gonna move to Europe anyway since all of OUR R&B artists are stealing the sound. I bet something ELSE is popular in Europe by now…Chris Brown’s comeback is heavily anticipated. I get it, but…not really. All that aside, this song is him angling for another Doublemint commercial. THAT was the beginning of the end!
      • Is anyone REALLY going to BUY these new R. Kelly CD’s?! Inquiring minds and small children of the female persuasion the world over want to know.
      • Tonex’ AKA B. Slade has a really dope song that I like right now, “Going Away”. What I REALLY want is CNN to bring HIM on as a pundit or something in this whole Eddie Long debacle…

That’s all I got right now. Feel free to weigh in, disagree, vent, or whatever. Just some random thoughts for ya!

Keri Hilson Breaks Down Women’s Minds With “Breaking Point” Clip

Written by The IPS in Videos on Sep 23, 10

OK Keri Hilson, we see you. “I am woman, hear me roar!” Keri gets her good squall on in this new clip for her first single from her new album No Boys Allowed, “Breaking Point”. The video is cool enough. I feel like Keri always has this overacted, overdramatized show of emotions and exaggerated movement that she does in her videos. LOL, I’m just like, “act!”

I have to say though, that this song REALLY has strains of Beyonce’. Especially the spoken parts — she has that same kind of husky feel to her voice, and even with the little squall and growls that she throws in throughout the song. Not a comparison, just an observation. In any case, this song is not bad at all, and I wouldn’t skip it on a record. I can tell that Keri is really trying to craft a record seemingly that caters to the ills and travails of her female compatriots. LOL.

Album Art Round-Up: Keri Hilson, Ne-Yo & Nicki Minaj

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Sep 3, 10

Keri Hilson’s latest single and new from her soon-to-come sophomore album is called “Breaking Point”. The cover however features her channeling a lil’ Creole we all know. It just feels like that whole stripped down, black & white simple asthetic that Beyonce’ was trying to channel previously. However, not comparing Keri just because. Her new album No Boys Allowed has no release date yet, but the single officially drops September 7th. Listen to it here — the single itself is a bit of doo-wop meets two-step as Keri riffs about love and stress.

Urban Bridgez has the exclusive on Ne-Yo’s album cover for his new opus Libra Scale. Look, I know Ne-Yo is talented and this album has a long drawn out backstory that will all supposedly make sense when it drops, but come. You ain’t Michael Jackson. This ain’t Moonwalker. Boy stop! LOL. Him and Janelle Monae must shop at the same Men’s Warehouse. Album hits stores October 19th, as of right now. It’s been pushed back a bunch…

Rap-Up has the first look at will.i.am & Nicki Minaj’s first collabo single, “Check It Out”. I don’t like the song or the album art, but alrighty. The Buggles sample of “Video Killed The Radio Star” grates on my nerves after the first few seconds. Pink Friday comes out Black Friday. I’m sure it will be a “Monster”. Everyone is so ga-ga over Nicki’s verse on this new Kanye joint — what ya’ll think of that?

T.I. Is Singing And Keri’s Remixing Her Own Song On “Got Your Back”

Written by The IPS in Videos on Jul 22, 10

I don’t care what anyone says, this song is nothing but “Knocks You Down” Part 2. It’s the first thing that comes to mind whenever I hear the opening strains of this song!

T.I.’s King Uncaged album is heavily anticipated, but I’ve yet to hear something that really piques my interest personally. I’ll probably still be wearing that Big Boi record out because that joint is all in, all hands on deck a smash!

“Got Your Back” is T.I.’s “Whatever You Like” for this album cycle I’m guessing. And while I have no issues looking at Keri Hilson, and appreciating how Clifford is rapping and dressing up these days (because T.I.P. hasn’t been invited out in public lately), this song is just kind of stale to me. I liked the how spinning/rotating wall look, that was nice. Other than that, besides T.I.’s affinity for mussed-up dressed prep and good suits, I just can’t say I’m looking forward to hearing this on the radio 50-11 times a day.

Keri Hilson redux and T.I. sticking to the tried and true radio formats = no growth in music. But, not a terrible song. Though hip-hop fans are livid over T.I.’s faux singing of his last verse (like he hasn’t done it before though?)…
