    • Kanye West Proves His Musical Prowess With New Track “Power”

Written by The IPS in New Music & Reviews on May 28, 10

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Kanye West – “Power” (Feat. Dwele) (Co-Produced by S1)

June 8th is when this new Kanye West single will be available, and that is when everyone will rue the day they are releasing ANYTHING this summer, much less the month of June.

This new Kanye is…on first listen, it’s epic. It’s invigorating. It’s energetic, lively, it moves — it’s Kanye! It makes me realize how much Drake is seriously teetering on the edge getting on my nerves and being relevant (musically to ME) and how Kanye always puts together his elements so well.

The song talks about the trappings of power and metaphorically spins a dark tale, ending with the power and ego ultimately cause demise…

“Power” is the new single from Kanye and it samples “21st Century Man” by King Crimson (according to Ms. Info) and was co-produced by S1 of StrangeFruit Project. I’m not even enough of a crate digger to know all of that! She has all the scoop if you want to check out her “info” above. Also this site has already transcribed the lyrics! Phew.

Overall, this was great to wake up too and it makes me excited for new Kanye music. His creativity seriously is an otherworldly gift (and curse, I’m sure). I’m just excited we get to partake!

Coverage: Jason Derulo Does Kanye’s “Heartless”

Written by The IPS in Blogs on May 17, 10

Is he crying? LOL. I’m confused.

      I know it’s a sad song but…

And Jason Derulo ALWAYS loses like, 30 points because of his fashion choices. All those zippers…he needs to open up one of them pockets and find his manhood cause them whiny crying notes got old REALLY fast.

I just can’t put my finger on what it is about this dude LOL. “In My Head”, the song on the CD, is my guilty pleasure though. I won’t lie. That goes hard. I do all the harmonies with it too.

I wonder what Kanye would say if he saw this. You know, the drunk off BROWN LIKKA Kanye. Not the PC music industry opinion LOL.

“Can You Sing Like A Robot”? Kanye + Cleveland Can!

Written by The IPS in Blogs on May 3, 10

Yo, I’ve watched “The Cleveland Show” one time when it first came out, but I’ve yet to watch it again. However, Kanye West dropped in for a guest appearance and he got into a rap battle with Cleveland, Jr. ROFL @ these fools rapping in KLINGON. Yes, I’m a nerd. One of my favorite shows ever is “Star Trek: The Next Generation”. Don’t judge me. It’s a long story.

Did you see the whole episode? Do you watch this show? “The Boondocks” also premiered again last night! Got that on the Tivo…

Harry Potter + Leona Lewis Body Double = Kanye West’s “Coldest Winter” Visuals

Written by The IPS in Videos on Feb 23, 10

Hmm, I’m really not too sure how to process this. Either this video is about escaping death, which would kind of correlate to the song (because I think I remember it being about his mother dying?), or it’s about Dementors from Harry Potter stealing souls and people falling into hell or HELL, I don’t know LOL!

It’s Kanye West. It’s “art”. Interpret for yourself, and share what you think in the comments below — let’s see how we all process this differently!

Yes, this is from “808′s & Heartbreaks”, but the video mix is different from the album mix. Get into that.

I did think that was Leona Lewis for a minute, but there was way too much emphasis on the chest area LOL, and Leona Lewis in a Kanye video doesn’t even seem right.

Excuse me while I go watch a Gucci Mane video to get my mind right. LOL.

Kanye Got The Short End Of Taylor Swift’s Stick (Pause?)

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jan 28, 10

So, Drake, Eminem and Lil’ Wayne with Travis Barker are performing the “Forever” remix most likely on the Grammys on Sunday. Yep, you read that right.

      No Kanye.

You heard it here 1st: nominees @drakkardnoir, @EmiNeM & Lil Wayne in a special performance w @trvsbrkr added to the stellar GRAMMY lineup! about 1 hour ago from web

We could probably speculate all day and all night long and try to be good armchair pundits as to why this is happening without him. Maybe PETA did it? Or he’s too busy with his boo Amber Rose? Or he is doing a seance to channel Michael Jackson’s spirit for his next album opus? Who knows!

I expect an ALL CAPS entry at his blog soon enough LOL.

Oh yeah, Travis Barker? Those last 3 mins above > more interesting than Drake has yet done musically, sorry. I still can’t believe he’s getting ALL this shine w/ no “traditional” album. The vanguard is changing, as well as the times.

Kanye’s “Street Lights” Shines On “VH1 Storytellers”

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jan 5, 10

I spotted this clip from Kanye’s VH1 Storytellers album/DVD over at YHTN and…

That Autotune has me a bit befuddled LOL. Kanye’s no singer, sure, but let’s just say that I’m glad that only lasted as long as it did. It was a bit laughable actually, and him smiling didn’t help me!

The set is hot though, and all them lights has Kanye sweating for sure LOL. Did you catch that?

“Street Lights” is one of my personal favorites from 808′s & Heartbreaks, but this live version is interesting to see.

Explore Music: 30 Seconds to Mars Are Caught Up In Kanye’s “Hurricane”

Written by The IPS in Blogs,New Music & Reviews on Nov 29, 09

30 Seconds to Mars – “Hurricane” Feat. Kanye West [Download + Listen]

Kanye West channeled some of his leftover “808′s & Heartbreaks” angst into a tightly wound emotional 16 bars for rock/alternative group 30 Seconds to Mars, which is fronted by sometimes actor Jared Leto. 30 Seconds to Mars have been successful over the past years, but their new album This Is War, which is out December 8th on EMI, after the band and the label had much animosity.

This collabo came about a while ago and it’s good to see that it actually happened. Kanye translates to other genres much better than Timbaland (who likes to hop genres production-wise) though I don’t think Kanye produced this joint; he just made a guest appearance. However, they fit very nicely together. Shows you how far ahead of his time Kanye was with “808′s…”.

What do you think of this song? If you like it, check out some of 30STM’s other music, I have a couple of their records, it’s not too shabby if you find the right songs…

The YT Folks Still Dissing Yeezy & A New Mixtape Joint Drops…A Good Week For Him!

Written by The IPS in Blogs,New Music & Reviews on Nov 13, 09

Brad Paisley & Carrie Underwood gets jabs in at Kanye at this week’s Country Music Association Awards. Taylor Swift coincidentally won all four awards she was nominated for. Of particular note is Darius Rucker’s win for New Artist of the Year, the first black person to ever win such an award from the Country Music Association. He’s become a bonafide country star.

Speaking of Kanye, a new track leaked from him today, rumored to be old and/or from a new mixtape. Definitely sounds unfinished, but someone may like it. It’s called “I’m So Appalled”. I’m so appalled at his Prada line! It’s nothing to write home about, but the beat is cool.

Cop “Wild Young Heartbreaks” by Noisettes & Kanye Now!

Written by The IPS in New Music & Reviews on Oct 6, 09

We just posted about this mixtape in our recent review of The Noisettes’ live performance on Letterman, and now the actual mixtape has dropped. UK rock/soul mixed with Kanye hip-hop/soul? Yes please. Okayplayer has teamed with producers Mick Boogie and Terry Urban to put this joint together for our listening pleasure.

With production from Apple Juice Kid, one of my faves and also from the ILLFONICS, it’s sure to knock.

Check out the tracklisting below and grab the download link as well!

Music Video: Consequence – “Whatever U Want” Feat. Kanye West & John Legend

Written by The IPS in Videos on Sep 29, 09

Hmm…Hype Williams is kinda fired. LOL I’m over dude. His videos are so uncreative these days!

Stick a pin in that, we will come back to it.

I’ve been a fan of Cons ever since I heard “Disperse” though, and this beat/song, quirky yet thumping strangely, doesn’t let me down. Consequence is not outshined by Kanye on this one on first listen either, but as it goes, this song is pretty inane. The production is what drives this song.

John Legend’s appearance really wasn’t needed, but it’s not an unwelcome addition.

This video however…is basically some chick doing a watered-down dutty wine and some attractive females walking around. Then they are in a club, watching the girl (whose silhouette is actually all that we see) doing the dumb dutty wine some more.

Wow. Can you say that Consequence just paid way too much for this video?!

Clocking in at a paltry less than 3 minute mark though, this song feels like if it went on any longer than that, it’d get real old real fast anyway. But pair that with the video, and you almost feel cheated.
