    • Since I Am “A Man” & Think Like One, I Think J. Hud Doesn’t Need Ne-Yo For “Think Like A Man”

Written by The IPS in Videos on Mar 2, 12

The only thing I’m thinking about, and thinking hard at that, is if I can get with this song.

Now, I’m going to backpedal and give J. Hud credit for her last self-titled album. In hindsight, that album grew on me majorly once I adjusted to the fact that Jennifer is just a belter. Period. She will never really NOT be a belter. The songs grew, the production made headway into my heart, and “No One Gonna Love You” become my repeated jam on many occasions. Despite the bad grammar in many of the songs and titles, I ended up enjoying 3/4′s of that album.

“Think Like A Man” suffers one minor pitfall — Ne-Yo. Why & how Ne-Yo weasels his way onto duets with all these great singers (relative to him, of course) baffles me. But this song is just fluffy and asinine enough to not even really matter. The movie that it is taken from is seemingly trying to bring the blockbuster soundtrack back like in the 90′s. Rick Ross is always meh to me. Unneeded and clearly there for perceived appeal. Give me a version without him and without Ne-Yo, and I’m good I think. Kevin Hart’s comedic appeal is always fine with me at this point as well.

So — Who’s going to see the movie? Who likes this song? Who cannot stand Steve Harvey? Just wondering. Spill it!

“No One(‘s) Gonna Love You” Like The New And Improved Jennifer Hudson Can

Written by The IPS in Videos on Jun 24, 11

Look, let me say this right up front — I’ve been a Jennifer Hudson fan since day ONE. I’ve had the pleasure of knowing her as well. So the fact that J. Hud is working it out like this in the video is kinda making me feel some kind of WAY…

Is it just me or is J. Hud almost unrecognizable?! I feel like I am watching a whole new artist emerge. I’m still not a fan of this new album of hers overall, but “No One Gonna Love You”, despite the bad grammar, was one of the few I enjoyed. That and “Don’t Look Down”. I LIKE this aggressively emoting, masculinely positioned, swagged out Fedora rocking side of J. Hud. The video fits the song perfectly — even down to the title. And the dancing was random enough to be good for her. I was not expecting that, at all!

Great job, great vid, and it actually makes me want to go take a second listen to the album — that’s how you know a video has captured your attention.

      J. Hud looks great in this joint too. Clothes, styling, body….I’m all about it.

“No One Gonna Love You” — J. Hud And These Song Titles Will Be The Death Of Me!

Written by The IPS in Blogs on May 4, 11

Jennifer Hudson might need to find a new single that is going to be a blockbuster, because I’m not sure she’s finding it with the songs she has now. I vote she go record some new songs with the critiques that I’ve offered her and other fans, and do a re-release in a month or so. A “Deluxe Edition” if you will. Because the album in its current version isn’t doing anything for me at all.

This performance didn’t really move me either. It felt out of sync, she felt slightly behind the music (which was may have been intentioned, but even then…), and it didn’t get ineresting until the end. Even The Roots couldn’t spice up this song. And it’s not that it is Jennifer voice — it mostly the lack of strong material that she has.

She should make “Don’t Look Down” a single, and take the Motown motif of that song to the max, make an epic video, and come up with some kind of huge contest behind it. That’s my vote.

      What do y’all think?

      J. Hud Takes The “Dancing With The Stars” Stage To “Look Down” Upon Your Dancing Skills

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Apr 13, 11

      J. Hud took a few of her singles to run them past the yt folks and see if they could dance to them.

      They could.

Jennifer’s brand of singing on this record just overpowers EVERYTHING, including the smooth moves of the “Dancing With The Stars” dancers. I couldn’t even focus on them because I was trying to figure out where the hollering was coming from LOL. “Don’t Look Down” is one of the few salvageable records from I Remember Me, and I mostly like it because of it’s old Motown feel. “Feeling God” is probably more suited for “Dancing With The Stars” with its brand of big bang feeling and semi-waltz feel.

Her background singers were blazing for the most part right along with her. Shouts to them.

But yeah, these live performances still aren’t making me love these songs at all…

Jennifer Hudson Takes Over AOL Sessions

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Apr 7, 11

      J. Hud went to AOL to sing for the cameras and help this sophomore album of hers which is struggling on the charts (or at least it is in my mind). I’m so disappointed in this latest album, and the more I listen to it, the less it sticks to my ribs and I want to keep trying to MAKE it to.

Above she sings “Angel”, and I’ve also included the clips for “I Remember Me” and “Where You At” after the jump. To be fair, she sounds decent, but these songs are just soooooo mediocre that I don’t even care. Honestly. These songs are all just background noise to me. I hate that I didn’t fall in love with this album of hers. If you missed the review, check it here.

Album Review: Jennifer Hudson’s “I Remember Me” Feels Like An Afterthought

Written by The IPS in New Music & Reviews on Mar 23, 11

Jennifer Hudson – I Remember Me
2.5 stars out of 5 stars

Jennifer Hudson, with her voluptuous voice and indomitable vocal power, has fallen by the wayside. Call it distraction with a new baby and her current film projects, but this sophomore album was definitely an afterthought. It seems as if she’s hit the doldrums of creativity and relied on a bunch of “named” producers to let this album coast on through to stores without nary a bit of real soul. While her last album and movie were all about the awards and nominations that they garnered the then new artist, this second album won’t be as much of a feather in her cap from what I’m hearing. The creative output isn’t really there, and even her voice sounds as if it is on auto-pilot from front to back. As much as we love J. Hud, I feel slightly cheated and a little left out in the cold from I Remember Me.

Jennifer Hudson Sanctifies Good Morning America With “Believe” Performance

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Mar 21, 11

      J. Hud sings a gospel song. It’s pretty much what you’d expect LOL. She also sung “Where You At” but that song REALLY doesn’t move me at all.

“Believe” is taken from her new album and is actually a Brooks & Dunn cover. This performance really just exemplifies however why she shouldn’t have a recorded an album of R&B joints. She sings them all like a Gospel song.

And then…did they almost go into a shout at the end!?

      That’s what I’m saying!

I Remember Me drops tomorrow and I’m writing my review right now so get ready…

Jennifer Hudson’s “Where You At” Is Just…

Written by The IPS in Videos on Feb 25, 11

I love Jennifer Hudson, but this song does nothing for me. I was having a discussion with some other music bloggers about Jennifer’s latest attempt at a musical opus, and we all agreed that it was pretty flat and lifeless. This song attempts to be dramatic at many points throughout, but it falls short each and every time to me.

The faux strings, cliche lyrics, and even sheer corniness in my opinion are what kill this song. I didn’t even really pay a lot of attention to the lyrics honestly until the music video. It is a point-by-point interpretation of the lyrics. The music of the song leads you to believe you are about to hear some epic power ballad that matches Jennifer’s capable voice, but you realize it’s just about some dude slanging on a corner and Jennifer’s ghetto attempt at telling him to come home — “where you at?” It sounds like someone heard those Boost mobile commercials and thought that would be a cute, hood way to write a big ballad.

Where’s Diane Warren when you need her?

Jennifer Hudson Takes To Ellen In Her Search To Find “Where You At”

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Feb 17, 11

Now I love Jennifer Hudson, but this song does NOTHING for me, and I thought this performance was pitchy and sounded a bit amateurish for her.

This song has no dynamics at all to me I feel like either. It all starts on level 8 and ends up on level 11. AND I hate that the name/hook of the song is “Where You At”. So hood.

I’m SO cool on the album if it going to sound like this, but I really really hope it doesn’t. That’s my girl!

Album Covers: Jennifer Hudson Looks Brand New While She Is Remembering The Past

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Feb 8, 11

Jennifer Hudson is not playing a game with her photoshoots now that she lost all that weight! Her latest album I Remember Me is dropping in the US March 22nd, and the singles that she has put out haven’t really moved me. But she looks GREAT. Whoever edited and touched up this photo put in some serious work.

      J. Hud is my girl and I’m glad to see her still being successful. Let’s hope the new music is all that we are hoping it will be…her voice is a powerhouse and should be around for a long while.

I really do hate those Weight Watchers commercials though…
