    • “Lady Marmalade” Has Never Been (Over) Sung So Well By A Single “Voice”…

Written by Donovan in Blogs on Jun 9, 11

Has anyone else been watching “The Voice”? I started watching it for the premise that it was all about how good someone is vocally, but honestly, after watching this clip from last night’s episode, it lead me to believe they changed the rules in one of the episodes I missed to root for the tone def and the pitchiest singers they could find.

In this clip Christina “VocalsRunnethOver” Aguilera and her backup singers team did a rendition of LaBelle’s classic “Lady Marmalade” and boy was it a howl fest. I almost wished Patti LaBelle would have showed up, showed out and kicked her heels in the direction of the contestants to show them how a true diva does it. Oh wait, she has done that before.

I really enjoyed Christina’s Back to Basics album but since then she has been stricken by the worst affliction of powerful singers: the tendency to over sing everything. I just want somebody to yell at her and say that part of the song doesn’t need a run… just relax. Now, I need to relax. I’m gonna go put on some Sade.

IPS Note: I haven’t caught a SINGLE episode of “The Voice” but that Beverly chick!? I’d buy that album in a heartbeat. I can already tell from this clip.

Jennifer Lopez Refuses To Let Sleeping Dogs Lie & Drops Another Single “On The Floor”

Written by The IPS in Videos on Mar 4, 11

I just KNEW that when Jennifer Lopez fell at the AMA’s performing “Louboutins” that we finally were going to be rid of the scourge that is her voice. Oh, but no. Her team smartened up and acquiesced to the American Idol producers and got her in, making her relevant to the mainstream again without even really trying. She’s gone from lowkey MIA, struggling to keep her music career afloat, to the hottest thing on the block again. New spokeswoman deals, new hit single — just a rejuvenated J. Lo.

So of course her new song “On The Floor” has shot up the charts, and we get a video. The song is a tepid exercise in autotune and pandering to the current status of mainstream radio, and it’s one that I will be happy to not ever have to hear again. Now, don’t get me wrong, I watched the clip in 1080i because J. Lo is STILL fine, but I muted it.

Pitbull is the collaborator of choice these days for these techo-esque club pop songs, and he once again makes an appearance. It’s not important anything he is saying. Matter of fact, strip all the vocals and you could just dance to this absentmindedly.

And J. Lo, you’re 41, married, with two twins at home. You ain’t gonna be on no one’s floor! Go home, sit down with a cup of chamomile, and call it a night. Thanks!

The National Anthem Is Not A Joke To Sing — Just Ask Christina Aguilera

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Feb 7, 11

Ok, yeah, Christina Aguilera missed a line during the singing of the National Anthem (which ain’t even the name of the song anyway LOL). “At the Twilight’s last reaming” Christina? I guess all them sweaty football players had her mind in a place it shouldn’t have been?

In any case, ya’ll worried about that one line, I’m worried about why her voice sounds like she’s been licking and swallowing sand paper, AND how she kept getting off pitch due to the runs she felt like she HAD to do every 35 seconds. Why didn’t she pre-record that like everyone else? Her voice hasn’t been on like that since…a while. Her loss. She could have done better. Had she had nailed that, the sales of her latest record might have jumped a little, cause Lord knows she needs a sale boost.

Keri Hilson Tries To Out-Ciara Ciara Even Though Ciara Is No One To Outdo Right Now Either…

Written by The IPS in Videos on Nov 29, 10

P-Poppin in a bank vault hunh? I bet that bank smelled like dirty dollars, badussy, sweat, lacefront glue, and despair!

So confused about this album. Has she reached her limit and decided that being a pretty girl that rocks doesn’t get the D at night? Or was this just an excuse to kiss Columbus Short. Girl, have your manager call his agent and save us 6 minutes into the depths of your hoedom! I love Keri Hilson, and she fahn, but I was just like, WHAT IS GOING ON!?

And that Tasha Smith School of Acting has GOT to go. Faith Evans…ma’am. Dawn, ma’am. JoJo said her lines and was like, “I’m the only one of these hoes that has ACTUALLY been in a movie.”

No no and more no. You tried, we no buy. Please take Meerkat the Don and head back into the lab cause this single…Rick Ross just makes me want to fight his life!

All that was missing was the “Matrix” dance and Black Jesus talking asking “What That Thang Smell Like”. *done*

Nicki Minaj Lets Us See “Right Thru” Her Façade Of Being A Singer On Wendy Williams

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Nov 18, 10

      Girl….you tried it.

I’d rather listen to scratchy “Unplugged” Lauryn Hill in her best Raggedy Ann muu-muu’s and no socks sing about “mysteries” than listen to this girl in this pink wig warble off key and stare blankly into the teleprompter. Even the audience wasn’t having it until that “APPLAUSE!” sign came on. Whenever they showed shots of Wendy, all the audience members behind her were like “why the hell I get tickets to THIS taping!? UGH!”. LOL!

I mean, Nicki ain’t no singer, so don’t even throw that out there. She’s TRYING to be a singer. If you don’t want to be a singer, then don’t sing on your records! But if you gonna sing, then do it! Sounding like Shontelle at the BET Black Girls Rock — scared and out of place and not comfortable. Nicki Minaj should have brought out Lil’ Wayne on the guitar to back her up. At least she would have had some help sounding a mess and could blame it on him!

Pink Friday is not on my holiday list, but I’m sure the masses will be eating that up. They might as well pick up 50 Tyson’s disc as well…

“Oh Santa”, Please Leave A Lump Of Coal In Mariah Carey’s Stocking…

Written by The IPS in Videos on Nov 2, 10

      Alright Mariah, you tried it!

Mariah Carey is just putting out this album because The-Dream is in the middle of a divorce and is working with Kim Kardashian on her debut record and has no new time for tepid R&B radio joints. Oh, and she’s about to have a new mouth to feed.

I really think at this point in career, Mariah shouldn’t even bother. I could have lived without this record. Her voice could have lived on better if she hadn’t forced it into some more whistle notes just for the hell of it. But…it’s Christmas, and we can ALWAYS use another original Christmas song, right?

I just loved all the wide shots and the shots close up and of Santa Claus. LOL. I don’t know when this record is out, and I don’t care, so if you want it that bad, go find it. I heard it already, and I wasn’t impressed. Hark the Hearald, Angels Sing, Mariah Carey needs to leave Christmas BE!

Rihanna Looks A Plum Fool Tiptoeing Through The Tulips In “Only Girl (In The World)” Video

Written by The IPS in Videos on Oct 13, 10

What are we supposed to do with this Rihanna? I feel like she is auditioning for the cast of “Hair” on Broadway with this “frolicking in the fields” and this hair…and these balloons…and flowers…and just…is it the dawn of the Age of Aquarius?

Outside of the fact that YES, she’s “the only girl” in this imaginary world of hers where girls still dye their hair with Kool-aid and play dress up, there’s nothing remotely interesting about this clip. Well, maybe the fireworks? Is she celebrating her freedom from her evil Rated R alter-ego? I guess. I will have no parts.

This Ciara Video Is So Boring That It’s Left Me “Speechless” Alright…

Written by The IPS in Videos on Sep 30, 10

Ciara, girl…boo. Bye. Peace out. We just don’t even care anymore. Honestly.

I know we give her crap for her Matrix-dance and booty pop that she recycles every video, so I guess for this video she just decided to…not dance at all?

      Alright.

I just can’t honestly think of any other words than “girl bye”. I hate saying those words. *goes to do something manly*

Mashonda Never Got Magazine Covers For Her Actual Music Though…

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jul 14, 10

Read the Vibe article here if you want

My whole take on this Mashonda/Swizz Beatz/Alicia Keys thing…meh.

However, I thought about it today and I realized Mashonda is getting covers for this whole business…she never got them for her music!

I remember she had that one Swizz Beatz produced song “Blackout” that had two versions — one with Snoop (see below video) and one with Nas. I liked the Nas one better, but the song was pretty terrible. Mashonda’s vocals were like, thin as rice paper and 2000 Kelis-esque. I remember thinking then, “the only reason she got signed is cause her husband is Swizz Beatz.”

I always cracked up because Swizz Beatz was speaking in them church tongues — “SHONDA! She’s a problem!” You got to be a church kid to get that.

LOL but tell me that this song isn’t laughable. The beat is kinda hot, but yeah…

Anyway, all that to say, I feel sorry for her. Alicia Keys is scandalous, and so is Swizz Beatz. I’m sure we will never know the whole story, but of course Alicia is going to catch the brunt of it because of who she is and the songs she’s sung about. Torrid and unfortunate for the children basically. That’s all I’mma say.

Kat Deluna Is Making It Way Too Easy To Consider Her Irrelevant; Remakes “California Gurls”…

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jul 12, 10

ROFL this is so terrible I HAVE NO WORDS.

Kat Deluna remakes Katy Perry’s hit “California Gurls” and calls it “New York City Gurls”. And if Snoop’s rap wasn’t asinine enough, this dude Onassis takes it to another level of terribleness with his bars. Kat Deluna sounds like she is choking on a pitch whistle while falling off a treadmill or something…what in the WORLD.

Kat…you betta “Whine Up” into a waitressing job at a local bodega near you, cause this ain’t it…
