    • Gabby Sidibe To Host Saturday Night Live!

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Apr 2, 10

The “Precious” star has broken out that character into more roles as she prepares for a star turn in a Showtime series “The Big C,” which is about a woman struggling with cancer and trying to find humor in the ordeal. She’s also in a new indie movie called “Yelling to the Sky” which hits later this year.

I never imagined however that she’d be on Saturday Night Live! My goal is to host Saturday Night Live before I die — true story. So I am so glad a sister is going to get a turn! Especially one who has had such an overwhelming and successful year! And all this from a girl who has no acting experience. Tell me God isn’t amazing!

I know Kenan Thompson is glad because they work him hard as a black woman LOL. Maybe now he can finally wear some pants instead of a push-up bra. Poor dude.

Gabourey Sidibe’s episode will air on April 24th and will feature the music group MGMT. Don’t know who MGMT is? Check out their latest video for their single “Flash Delirium” after the jump!

Snickers Does Aretha’s Body (And Pocketbook) Good!

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Feb 12, 10

Yo ROFL, this commercial?! I got a friend who is JUST like this. Shouts to my girl Nykki — cause when that mofo gets hungry, she turns into a a Hungry Hungry Hippo. Kinda like…no let me quit ROFL.

Liza Minelli in the front seat and Aretha Franklin in the backseat? *racial*

Unless, Aretha was more “comfortable” in the back seat ROFL. OK I got jokes. I’m done! I’m done!

I love Aretha, and I would pay WAY more money to see her eat a Snickers bar and play piano than I would to see Whitney Houston crack and shimmy all over a big stage anywhere in the country. Sorry. True story!

Spotted this commercial over at the homie Freshalina’s house

Who Is Jason DeRulo? He’s Top 5 On The Billboard Hot 100…And Touring W/ Lady GaGa

Written by The IPS in Blogs,Videos on Nov 20, 09

Jason DeRulo is going on tour with Lady GaGa starting at the end of December on her “Monster Ball” tour. Yep! “Who?!”

Some folks on Twitter hadn’t even heard of him today yet he’s opening for arguably one of pop music’s biggest artists right now.

“I couldn’t have been blessed with a better tour,” he told DS. “She’s an incredible artist and I think she’ll force me to step my game up because she’s such a fun performer to watch.

“Lady GaGa has reached the point where she’s massive, so she’ll have a total production behind her, whereas at this stage in my career I won’t have that. I have to think of clever ways to make my show special in its own way.” (Source)

He’s a songwriter and is working under J.R. Rotem. His first video/single “Whatcha Say”, which samples an Imogen Heap song, is about to be Top 3 too. I’d heard this song in passing a long time ago and hadn’t realized until recently that it’d become a hit. Him and Jay Sean both confuse me to their success slightly, but hey, no shade here!

Have you heard this song? Do you think he should be opening for Lady GaGa? I think Richgirl and Amerie are probably mad — the Badussycat Dolls weren’t available? LOL, joooookes.

Random Vid: Behind The Scenes of Mary J. Blige’s “The One” AT&T Spot

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jul 27, 09

If you didn’t catch Mary’s new AT&T commercial I posted up last week, you can check it here before you watch this clip. In this behind the scenes clip, we see why Mary looked about like she was ready to tip over (She was on a treadmill) and she also talks about the new album of hers dropping called Stronger and how after her Growning Pains (last album), she’s now stronger as a result of it.

I do appreciate Mary’s albums always having a clear progression and growth. I’m still not too sure about “The One”…that song has to grow on me. It seems a little lackluster in terms of the production sheen and even lyrically. It’s catchy though on some levels, and I’m sure Mary will follow it up with some fire.

      Right?

I’m not sure if this is the same song that Mary is talking about, but a song called “Stronger” leaked a while ago — check it on Youtube.

The Burger Kang Needs To Be Shot In A Back Alley

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Apr 7, 09

Please blame it on the tw-tw-tw-twi-twitter for this mess.

Sir Mix-A-Lot has been riding this booty gravy train (pause) for quite some times, so nothing surprises me anymore. This song has kept his bank account relevant for almost a quarter of a century!

But he has officially lost his mind. I know we are in a recession and all that, but I am going to need him to invest all his money from this Burger Kang check somewhere offshore so that the IRS can’t get it. This last train to Paris Poughkeepsie won’t last long!

Someone please call Coolio and have him on deck for a “Fantastic Voyage” McDonald’s spoof!

That Burger King costume FREAKS me out. Jack from Jack in the Box for the win!

Will Smith’s Son Jaden Is A “Karate Kid”

Written by The IPS in Movies on Nov 11, 08
      Will & Jaden

      Will & Jaden Smith

WOW, it must be nice to have a father who can purchase scripts and produce movies just for you to be in! And not only “movies”, but classics like — THE KARATE KID!

Yes, little Jaden is going to be waxing off and waxing on his Black AmEx very soon in the middle schoolers faces!

Columbia Pictures is back in the dojo with a new version of the 1984 hit “The Karate Kid,” which has been refashioned as a star vehicle for Jaden Smith.

The film will be produced by Jerry Weintraub (who launched the original franchise) and Overbrook Entertainment’s James Lassiter, Will Smith and Ken Stovitz. Will Smith, who is the 10-year-old actor’s father, co-starred alongside Jaden in his feature debut, “The Pursuit of Happyness,” which Overbrook and Escape Artists produced for Columbia.

The script is being written by Chris Murphy, and the film will shoot next year in Beijing and other cities. While the new film will be set in that exotic locale, it will borrow elements of the original plot, wherein a bullied youth learns to stand up for himself with the help of an eccentric mentor.

China Film Group Corp. will co-produce in China.

The younger Smith, who next stars in “The Day the Earth Stood Still,” is a martial arts practitioner. (Source)

Man, I wish I had me a 10 year old daughter. She’d “mysteriously” show up at his school with her headshots and reel in hand at recess ROFL.

No, how do we feel about ANOTHER remake!? First “The Last Dragon” with Samuel Jackson, and now “Karate Kid” with a black child…I wonder who will play Mr. Miyagi? Didn’t the original finally pass away?

Please Lord don’t let it be Jet Li, Chow Yun-Fat, Jackie Chan, or David Carradine. TIRED.

      Diddy Bought Enyce…FUBU NEXT!

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Oct 22, 08

Would I sound like a hater if I said I really didn’t care? I mean, I haven’t been able to buy new clothes since gas shot up this summer, so *woohoo* party in the Bad Boy Shiny Suit Crypt.

I really really can’t care though. I’m glad he’s expanding his empire, but I’m not sure if buying another “urban” line to complement your other “urban”-ish line is exactly diversifying. But, I probably don’t know what the hell I am talking about.

However, his video about being scared of Sarah Palin, I must say that I definitely DEFINITELY agree with that. Have ya’ll seen these shenanigans!? She don’t even know what the job of the Vice-President is. *falls the hell AND heaven out!*

I need a drink. Everyone is richer than me.

Percy Grows Up & Is Starting New BET Competitor

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Aug 15, 08

This video has nothing to do with this story, I just wanted to post it HAHAHAHA! I know someone with this doll *SEOD TO HIM*

After just asking folks to stop calling him Master P and call him P. Miller, now comes word that Percy and a bunch of people (including Denzel Washington) are starting up a family friendlier version of EBT (shouts to Fresh!) called Better Black Television.

DOWN WITH BET! I’m all for this sh*t, let’s get ‘er done!

Hip-hop entrepreneur Percy Miller, a.k.a. Master P, is launching a family-friendly cable network, Better Black Television.

The network will provide “positive content for a black and brown culture,” according to a company statement.

BBTV, set to launch in 2009, will be a general entertainment channel running a wide range of scripted, unscripted and news programming, including drama and comedy series, movies, animation, reality, politics, sports and entertainment news, children’s educational and teen programming, as well as “responsible hip-hop music and videos.”

BBTV advisory board members include Oscar winner Denzel Washington; Vault Load Films president Jim Finkl; NAACP executive director Vicangelo Bullock; NBA player Derek Anderson; cable industry veteran Prof. Sal Martino; hip-hop pioneer DJ Kool Herc; entrepreneur Olatokunbo Betiku; and real estate mogul Curtis Oakes.

BBTV chairman and CEO Miller said he’s had the vision for BBTV for several years. “I believe that there is a market in our community for a new diverse network that provides a new brand of superior programming that caters to all aspects of television, from reality to original programming,” he said.

The new channel is taking on the black-oriented cable channel BET. Miller stressed that he has “a great relationship with BET and MTV” and that he and his son, Lil’ Romeo, “will continue to do work with them and support their networks.” (Source)

My vote is for NO REALITY TV. Really, I mean, what avenues of reality haven’t we driven down already!? I’m sure there are more depths of depravity and invasion of people’s personal lives that I could find funny, but, I miss those days of good old sitcoms and stuff. If he has a strong Internet presence (wireless, online viewing, etc.) I think it could be a hit.

I think P should bring back the “TGIF” block kind of programming. THAT WAS THE ISH! I’m sure some of them old stars from the 90′s wouldn’t mind the work!

I say hats off to P though and I think this is great. It seems to be legitimate as well, he has all kinds of “non-irrelevant” people serving on his board. Let’s hope it’s MORE than “Good Times” reruns (cause ain’t nothing wrong with “Good Times”!)!

What old black 90′s shows would you like to see? What kinds of new shows would you like to watch? Talk about it!

      Prince Got A Book Ya’ll.

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Aug 7, 08

      Prince

Prince looks like the villain from “Rocky & Bullwinkle Show”, Boris. HAHAHAHAHA!

Prince Book 1  Prince Book 2

Prince is releasing a book called ”21 Nights”, a book of Poetry, Music, Lyrics and Photographs. It should be pretty interesting and a real good coffee table book, yes? Or if you black, you can just beat your kids with it instead of a house shoe. Whatever you like!

Everytime I think about Prince though, I think about that Jamie Foxx comedy bit. Classic.
