    • Jaleel White’s Dance Moves May Make You “Cry Baby”

Written by Donovan in Videos on Aug 9, 11

No it’s not some sort of viral video for a Family Matters reunion, it’s actually the official video for Cee Lo Green‘s latest single “Cry Baby” as well as an opportunity for Jaleel White to get a check. I don’t think I’ve ever listened to this song. I didn’t miss anything because it’s not that special. What is special is that this is the 5th single from The Lady Killer (6th if you count the still epic “Bodies”). If you would have told me that I would still be seeing videos from this album, I would of said that Rihanna would have put out another album first. Luckily for you, me, and the goats of Barbados, I was wrong.

This video did make me giggle. Particularly, the opening scene where Jaleel shushes her and proclaims “I’m Cee Lo Green” as if that means he has too many options than to stay with one beautiful woman. Money does make you win after all. Cee Lo has committed to creating a vintage look for the majorly released singles and that holds true here with more 50′s stylings and an overtly variety-style premise. It’s cute. Does it make me want to play it over? Not really.

Frankly, I think I enjoyed Cee Lo more when he has other people to balance out the crazy. Bring on the Goodie Mob and Gnarls Barkley albums! Let’s hear em!

Random: Missy Elliott Drops A Few Bars For “Fun” On Spice’s Dancehall Track

Written by Donovan in Videos on Jul 18, 11

Thank Miss Info for bringing this into my bubble. After revealing her recent struggle with Graves’ disease, Missy Elliott is slowly working her way back onto the scene. Here she drops some hot bars for dance hall artist Spice for her song “Fun”. FYI – Ms. E is not in the video.

This track works for me because Missy sounds great and has had an affinity for dance hall music for some time. Add this to your beach playlist and it fits right next to some of those other quintessential summer tracks. Spice however is suffering from cloneitis as she looks like she wants to start a new fight by jacking looks from Nicki Minaj and sneaking into Lil’ Kim’s wig and clothes closet from 1997.

Despite that, this gets me more excited for what Missy has up her sleeve. A new album for one of the creative visionaries of hip-hop is just what the game needs.

Apparently The “Best Thing” Beyoncé Never Had Was A Plot

Written by Donovan in Videos on Jul 8, 11

Beyoncé looks great in this video.

She even looks great when just singing in front of the camera in her wedding undergarments.

She is finally over her ex from 1998 - why so serious, girl? that’s a long time to wait - and get’s married, and looks great.

She gets her boogie on with children and still looks great.

This song and video are both mediocre; but hey, Beyoncé looks great!

      Sorry I’ve got nothing…

Alica Keys Tries To Give Us “Butterflyz” – Again

Written by Donovan in Blogs on Jun 29, 11

Alicia Keys has been out heavily pubbing the 10th anniversary re-release of her debut Songs In A Minor and performed one of my personal favorites from the album, “Butterflyz” live on Good Morning America. Though Keys has trouble with shifting registers – as per usual – she turned out a respectable job of this deeply personal song she penned when she was 14. She also performed “Fallin’” and “Empire State of Mind”.

Let me warn you that there is practically no reason to buy this collector’s edition unless you stan hard for Mrs. Beatz. The additional songs including the songs from the vault such as “Typewriter” are mostly tepid affairs that were originally left on the cutting room floor for a reason (if you don’t believe me, check her BET performance for evidence). However, it is hard to ignore the fact this album reflected a generation of young people who were forgetting about the power of R&B and how it can profoundly change ones life. Here’s one to R&B!

Jagged Edge’s New Song Won’t Stay In Your “Veins” For Long

Written by Donovan in Videos on Jun 24, 11

So apparently I missed the memo that Jagged Edge had a new album that came out this week called The Remedy and that they are signed to Slip-N-Slide Records of Trick Daddy and Trina fame. Here is the video for their 3rd single (what were the last two?) for “Flow Through My Veins” which I will warn you is a snooze fest.

From the corny faces and swaying (the one that doesn’t sing making waves with his hands), the lack of an actual plot and the random people standing around and staring at each other, this video does nothing to help JE seem relevant. Now that that’s over, let’s talk about the song.

With production from Jim Jonsin (“Motivation”), the song is boring nice, irrelevant heartfelt, and tepid slightly filling. No wonder I missed the buzz. On the plus side… the twins still sound good…

Katy Perry & Snoop Both Need Root Canals After This “California Gurls” Video

Written by The IPS in Videos on Jun 15, 10

As if it wasn’t hard enough to already take Snoop seriously, he goes and turns into the Wizard of White Girls with this “California Gurls” mess HAHA. If he only had a brain his creditability.

And didn’t Katy Perry just try to come at Lady GaGa for her “Alejandro” video!? OK, now Lady GaGa was wearing nun’s clothes and all that, but still, Katy is naked. On some clouds. Really? LOL! Pot, kettle, kettle, pot, have ya’ll met?

This “Candyland” meets “Alice in Wonderland” theme is just so over-the-top though, but hey, it is pop music. Pop music has always been a bit sugary and sweet, but just like candy, too much and it has consequences. The consequences of this song are that I can’t stand it after the first 2x listening.

Katy Perry actually has a decent voice if you strip away all of this, but this is one “good-girl-gone-bad” who is getting to the money and ain’t worried about nothing else. And we know Snoop don’t care — he just wants his check! He got it — this song is #1….

Another Dance: So…Was This Dude Dougie Zesty? Hello Kitty Indeed!

Written by The IPS in Blogs on May 6, 10

*May be a little NSFW due to language depending on where you work FYI*

Why are all these new dances that they come up ultimately so feminine looking? I haven’t seen this much hip action since folks were doing “Da Dip” (see below).

America’s youth are so creative though. God bless them. I remember my mama used to say to me “If you did your homework like you memorized all them songs you’d be a straight A student!” Well, I pass on some similar advice to these kids.

That big dude though? Umm, you couldn’t tell him nothing!! And the dude in the “Hello Kitty” t-shirt? Well, yeah. There’s so much foolery going on in this video I will let you digest it and share it with the rest of the class in the comments section. And please look at the video for the 90′s song “Da Dip” by Freak Nasty. I see similarities. HIP ACTION! #justsaying

TV News: Omarion to ABDC, Steve to Family Feud & Yolanda/Donnie To Sunday Best

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jan 22, 10

Omarion is set to join the judge’s panel on MTV’s “America’s Best Dance Crew”.

When the latest crop of crews takes the dance floor for the fifth season of MTV’s “America’s Best Dance Crew,” they’ll see a new face at the judges’ table: R&B singer Omarion has been named the newest judge on the dancing-competition series.

“He is an accomplished dancer, artist and actor who knows what makes a good dance crew performance,” said Liz Gateley, senior vice president of series development for MTV. “We are very excited for him to join Lil Mama and JC Chasez as our third judge.”

“I’m so excited to be a judge on MTV’s ‘America’s Best Dance Crew,’ ” Omarion said in a statement. “Dancing and performing is what I do and being a judge on this show will allow me to give creative feedback to the newest and hottest dancers on the rise.” (Source)

After the dismal sales of his latest album clocked in at about 22K, this is a good thing. He can join Lil’ Mama in the list of singers on that show who have had dismal sales LOL. As much as I like J.C. Chasez, he fits on that list…

On another channel, Steve Harvey is joining “Family Feud” as the new host. Radio, TV, man, does Steve ever sleep?

Lastly, Yolanda Adams and also singer Donnie McClurkin will be added to the judges panel of BET’s Sunday Best. The new season premieres on Easter Sunday (April 4th) at 9PM. That’s a whole lot of opinion in one episode — it’s gonna be tough moving that program along LOL.

Snoop Looks Like The Scarecrow From “The Wiz” To Me…

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jan 8, 10

Snoop Dogg steps out with a not-so-fresh press, no curl on CBS’ new show “I Get That A Lot”. Essentially well known stars “disguise” themselves as regular folks and when folks say “You look like _____”, well you get the rest.

Snoop did his turn as a parking attendant. I lol’ed hard when the dude said “He could park my car anyday!” Was that shade? Dude meant that. LOL.

I think having Snoop do this was pretty easy — they need to go for someone harder. Maybe Jamie Foxx. Or Susan Boyle. She could work at a pancake house in ATL. Or at Lane Bryant. HAHAHA.

Hark The Return of Sisqo From The Brink of Irrelevancy!

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jan 4, 10

Sisqo has signed on to the latest edition of the UK’s “Celebrity Big Brother 2010″. So, I am guessing that reunion effort and their reality show on Peachtree.tv in ATL yielded no results?

I mean, say what you want, but Sisqo used to be a beast vocally. I see how he handily worked his way around all the money notes in this performance, but shoot, he was the Chris Brown and all them of our time. And I don’t care if you judge me, Sisqo went in on “Incomplete”. That song was hot and one of my favorite songs of the 90′s. I promise you that!

But this reality show mess — anything for a check. His performance was a bit rusty and wow, was he doing “The Jerk”?! OR, was that his same old choreography and it was the jerk back then!? So many questions!

And was his hair still blond or was he bald? It was hard to tell…

Oh well, nikkas gotta eat. And we need something to watch on TV. LOL! Still, overall, I CANNOT.
