    • Faith’s Latest Visual Highlights Her Still Amazing Voice On “Tears Of Joy”

Written by The IPS in Videos on Oct 19, 12

Faith Evans has a released a visual of her latest single “Tears Of Joy” from the R&B Divas charity album she did in conjunction with her TVOne show of the same name. While the album has been out for a couple of weeks, Faith’s solo tracks on the project are definitely the vocal highlights of the project as a whole. And there’s also an amazing rendition of “Jesus Loves Me” turned in by Kelly Price as well…

But I digress! Faith’s “Tears Of Joy” dropped a minute ago as a single, but watching the visual really made it click to me how amazing Faith’s voice still sounds and how she is really SINGING on this song. Lamman Rucker makes a cameo as the love interest in this clip, but honestly, the black and white treatment deadens this video. It’s not really needed, but once again, it definitely made the song click that much more with me.

Faith’s voice is classic and should be recognized with the greats of the past 10-20 years in my opinion. Never faltering in her tone and background skills, able to take it to church or leave it smoothly by your bedside, “Tears Of Joy” is a quick reminder that Faith is still here and she’s still a vocal force to be reckoned with. The song itself isn’t particularly AMAZING, but Faith’s vocal saves it greatly.

New Music: Faith Evans Is Out To Prove She’s No Dummy In Love With “Dumb”

Written by The IPS in New Music & Reviews on Sep 11, 12

faith evans dumb new single r&b divas reality TV TVOne

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Faith Evans has a new single — the 2nd one that she’s released in as many weeks. “Dumb” is apparently the single being released to Urban radio stations, while the other single, “Tears Of Joy”, is being serviced to Urban AC outlets.

I’m a huge fan, and this recalls the more recent offerings of Faith — it sounds like something that would have been crafted for her The First Lady album sessions. It features a sassy Faith waking up from a phase of being romantically hypnotized and breaking out, shedding her love dumbness, and finding her own tack. It’s alright. It’s just that — alright. It’s not a great joint. I feel like Faith has been around long enough to where she needs to be stepping it up and showing these young ones how to do it. With “R&B Divas” putting back into the national spotlight, now would have been a great time to take a musical risk, in my opinion. If it fails, it could have been dubbed as a “promo” for the show or something, and then safe singles like “Tears of Joy” and “Dumb” could have been released.

As it stands, both of these singles are non-starters to me. Faith’s vocal is always one to be appreciated, but with songs like Brandy’s “Wildest Dreams” growing on me VERY quickly, I wish Faith would have come harder. And we won’t even talk about how this “Dumb” record is mixed…

      What y’all think?

New Music: Faith Evans’ “Tears” Are Happy Ones These Days…

Written by The IPS in New Music & Reviews on Aug 30, 12

Faith Evans has released a new song called “Tears Of Joy” and I have to say, Faith still sounds GREAT, and she stays true to her Gospel roots the longer the song plays out. Sounding great Faith!

I just caught up with the first couple of episodes of her new TVOne show “R&B Divas” and I have to say, I enjoy it. A) Y’all know I’m the R&B female vocal dude and B) they ALL still sound FANTASTIC. I’ve been loving all of KeKe Wyatt’s new music (she got mad issues though, phew!), and Monifah’s story is amazing. Best story arc thus far. Have y’all been watching the show?! I would love to hear your thoughts.

If you care, you can also hear the theme song from the show called “Lovin’ Me” after the jump!

Album Sneak Peeks: Joss Stone Is “Stone’d” And Rahsaan Patterson Is Feeling “Bleu”

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jul 7, 11

Now, Joss Stone is one of those artists that people seem to either love, or hate. Me personally, I loved her album Introducing Joss Stone. It was a well produced, funky, authentically soulful peek into the artist known as Joss Stone. And with Raphael Saadiq at the helm, it was well worth the wait.

Joss Stone has been the target of much criticism and disdain since the beginning of her career from “soul” purists, but in an age of Adele and other UK songstresses topping the US charts, will she finally get her just due? Her new album LP1 is due out in the US July 26th, and is her first on her own label Stone’d Records after many well-publicized label woes with former home EMI. It’s ALSO helmed by the fantastic Eurythmics member Dave Stewart. It’s sounding like it might be a fruitful collab, but time will tell. I’m willing to at least give it a spin! Are you?

One of my personal favorite singers EVER, Rahsaan Patterson, is also getting ready to put out his new record. Bleuphoria is due out in the US on July 19th, and I am very very excited. The album features such luminaries as Lalah Hathaway, Faith Evans, Jody Watley, and more, I’m sure. “6 AM” is my JOINT, and it stays on constant repeat.

In the above clip, Rahsaan talks about the story behind Bleuphoria, and friends and collaborators Lalah Hathaway and Faith Evans also weigh in with their thoughts. This album is sure to be another feather in Rahsaan’s cap, and a prime addition to his already stellar discography. Are you feeling “bleu”? Review coming soon by the way…

Faith Evans’ “Right Here” Is About As Classic As We Can Get From Faith These Days

Written by The IPS in Videos on Feb 17, 11

This song “Right Here” was definitely one of my faves from Faith Evans’ latest about Something About Faith. It reminded me of old Faith Evans, from say, her 2nd and 3rd albums. It’s mostly due to the vocals and the style of the song, but it definitely sounds like OLD Faith.

The song is decent, but the video is a bit…lifeless. We are treated to a shoulders and up shot for the length of the whole video with shots of the city as Faith “rides” around in a car interspersed. Whether it was done because of budgetary reasons, image reasons, or what, it makes for an extremely boring video. Yes, the song is laid back in and of itself, but they could have done so much more with this. 2 stars out of 5.

El DeBarge & Faith Evans Sing, Kind Of, On “Lay With You”

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jan 14, 11

      OK, don’t stone me.

I am the biggest Faith Evans fan, AND El DeBarge fan, but this performance was weak. All parties involved seemed a bit pitchy, tired, and overpowered by this cookie-cutter R&B track.

I mean, no! I need Faith Evans and El DeBarge to be slaying these kinds of things. Like, ya’ll are legends. This felt so lazy to me. Faith felt hesitant during the verses, and El DeBarge also sounded a bit tenuous and out of his element with these uptempo track to “Lay With You”. I appreciate the sentiment, Faith’s heels, and the limited amount of stage that they seemed to work in……..but yeah.

I honestly haven’t had the chance to listen to El’s Second Chance CD yet, and I think Faith’s Something About Faith was fair-to-middling at best. I just want my stars and favorites to do better. So was it terrible? No. But I was definitely expecting a lot more. Where’s the power? The confidence? That’s what I was missing…do ya’ll agree?

Getting Caught Up With El Debarge — “Second Chance” & “Lay With You” With Faith Evans

Written by The IPS in Videos on Nov 16, 10

So I was onboard the El Debarge wagon when he hitched it back up to the spotlight, but then I’ve just been so busy that I missed pretty much everything after that. This is my attempt to catch up!

“Second Chance” was his return to form, and his first single/video from his new album of the same name, which drops on November 30th. It is a nice contemporary spin on El’s gentle yet supple high vocal. And while this may not garner him any news fans, it’s refreshing for the old heads (and old music souls like me) that have enjoyed his music. He looks good and sounds good. That’s better than most of his contemporaries that are making “comebacks”…

However, it AMAZES me how his voice still sounds the same after all the drugs and everything else that poor El has been through. Justin Bieber’s voice just dropped and is already lower than El’s. That is CRAZY. HAHAHA!

Hit the jump for “Lay With Me” featuring the talented Faith Evans…

Album Review: “Something About Faith” Sounds Tenuous But Strong On New Album

Written by The IPS in New Music & Reviews on Oct 7, 10

Faith Evans’ new album Something About Faith has dropped to much anticipation, as her “Faithfuls” (who are often staunchly supportive of Faith) have been looking forward to her return and for her to “change the game”.

While there is no game changing to be had from this album, it’s a return vocally of the Faith Evans that we’ve all grown to love, though her voice sounds tenuous and the surety in her vocals is lacking.

Some Random Thoughts Of Foolery From The IPS On This Monday…Get Into It!

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Sep 27, 10

Mariah Carey fell in Singapore. Either she is pregnant, or she is realllllly big. I hope she’s pregnant. And even more importantly, WHY IS EVERYONE HOLLERING!? Backgrounds…wow. And Mimi talked the whole time….

      • I hear Keri Hilson and Ciara are getting into it again lowkey about them being compared to each other. Keri, well, Ciara, I’m sorry — Ciara WRITES her songs. You just have perfected the art of making that a** pop. So, no matter what happens, I think you still lose. Cause one day that a** gone drop, pop a blood vessel, and you won’t be able to get it back up again Matrix-style. Keri, even if her voicebox is blown out in a freak studio accident still will be making money from her songwriting! Sat down.
      • Fantasia almost killed herself, got more press, and still, her album has yet to cross the 200K mark yet. I’m going to say that unless she gets pregnant by old dude and get his name tattooed on her forehead for good measure, she won’t be making platinum anytime soon.
      • Faith Evans’ new video is STILL terrible ya’ll. I’m sorry, I tried to watch it again, and them praise dancers just make want to cry. Remember when Faith was chubby and was in a roller skating rink for the “Love Like This Before” video? I’d almost rather have that all over again.
      • This Nelly “Just A Dream” video is really letting me know that Nelly’s time has passed. Where is Murphy Lee and that dude that wore the half-hockey-mask thing? They need to remake “Humpty Dumpty” or some other asinine nursery rhyme so we don’t have to hear Katy Perry anymore. At least it’d be catchier than…wow, who’s the latest hot pop-rapper? Flo-Rida is somewhere ripping up all the “Brandy & Flo-Rida 4 Ever” pictures he scribbled on his “Right Round” royalty statements…
      • Brandy is on “Dancing With The Stars” which I don’t watch, right? Right. All I want Brandy to do is dancerie herself Mary J. Blige style into a studio booth, make up with Rodney Jerkins, call Keith Crouch and Rahsaan Patterson, and make some music. Girl, you went from “America’s Got Talent” to “Dancing With The Stars” and all we got left with is Nick Cannon and Monica belting for her last little bit of vocal life with that Deniece Williams cover. Save us!
      • Lil’ Wayne has a new album coming out this week. It’s called I’m Not A Human Being. YES, WE KNOW. You’re a Martian, an alien, the Pussy Monster, etc. You should have called it I’m Not A Free Man and GAVE it out for free. How is he recording music and releasing it and profiting on it? Isn’t there some law against this? Where is Judge Judy when you need her?
      • Did ya’ll hear about this Rick Ross sex tape? There’s nothing I want to see less on this Earth than Rick Ross porking it up with some poor groupie. Literally. Rickay, please work to get a Ricky MARTIN body before you start flaunting what the good/bad God gave you. I’d rather look directly into the sun…
      • The Diplomats are reuniting. So does that mean hi-speed sampling is going to come back into favor and popularity? And…who are the rest of the Diplomats besides Jim Jones and Cam’ron? Maybe that’s me being a West Coast dude, but if they ain’t helping to clean up the oil spill or brokering peace in the Middle East, I veto this wholeheartedly!
      • Kanye West released another song on G.O.O.D. Friday called “So Appalled”. It’s alright — I think I am just MORE happy to hear a track WITHOUT Charlie Wilson! I mean, is Nate Dogg still not up and moving about? Didn’t Ronald Isley just get out of jail? Is Stevie Wonder on sabbatical from life? Who drug up Charlie Wilson? He only sounds good with Snoop and Justin Timberlake – duh.
      • Are we EVER going to see the video for Alicia Keys’ and Beyonce’s “Put It In A Love Song”? Or did Mashonda hack into Alicia’s email and delete that ish forever? Maybe that is the one good thing Mashonda has done in her life…
      • Chris Brown has a new song called “Yeah”. I think I am just gonna move to Europe anyway since all of OUR R&B artists are stealing the sound. I bet something ELSE is popular in Europe by now…Chris Brown’s comeback is heavily anticipated. I get it, but…not really. All that aside, this song is him angling for another Doublemint commercial. THAT was the beginning of the end!
      • Is anyone REALLY going to BUY these new R. Kelly CD’s?! Inquiring minds and small children of the female persuasion the world over want to know.
      • Tonex’ AKA B. Slade has a really dope song that I like right now, “Going Away”. What I REALLY want is CNN to bring HIM on as a pundit or something in this whole Eddie Long debacle…

That’s all I got right now. Feel free to weigh in, disagree, vent, or whatever. Just some random thoughts for ya!

Faith Evans’ “Already Gone” Video Is Already Gone From My Memory After One Viewing…

Written by The IPS in Videos on Sep 20, 10

      Umm…I don’t like this video.

The song has grown on me and has gotten a few spins, but this video with the mime team from Faith Evans‘ home church…I can’t. I looooooove Faith and she looks great, but this video is pretty boring. I mean, that’s the best we could come up with? A super imposed mime praise dancer? One with makeup and one without? And some glow-in-the-dark usher gloves?

There was more miming and interpretive dancing than there were scenes with the male lead.

So as much as I love Faith, and am anticipating her new album on October 5th, this video gets a fail. Mostly because I don’t like praise dancers. LOL. Shouts to Bossip on the exclusive.
