    • Mariah Can’t Even Sing This ABC Song “Obsessed” Live Anymore…FAIL.

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Dec 17, 09

So Mariah Carey hit up “Lopez Tonight”, comedian George Lopez’s show, and you know what, I wasn’t going to post this (or watch it) because this song is about as old as Mariah’s black leotard she keeps wearing, but oh man, it was just so bad I had to point some things out.

      • The first 30 seconds of this performance sum up Mariah’s whole album cycle as of late. Off key, a mess and just a shame. She’s too much of a pro and diva and performer to sound like this! Soul stealing.
      • She looks like she sounds on this stage w/ this performance, a mess.
      • Mariah being such the star that she is and been in the game for so long, WHY is she even allowing herself to go out and get played like this? I mean, she’s fallen way down the scale from her former glory. Take a sick day.
      • The background singers seem like THEY aren’t even trying to cover up for her anymore. Sad day.
      • She’s never had any rhythm, but Jesus!
      • And lastly, that whistle note? SHE’S NOT DOING THAT LIVE! Know how I know? Despite the fact that they zoomed out on that part (not slick), you can see when they zoom back in at the 3:37-ish mark that her MOUTH is still on that whistle note part BUT the song has already moved on. FAIL!!!

I used to love her but I don’t love her no ‘mo. Like Keyshia Cole and Kanye, I CHANGED MY MIND. I cannot. Stop the rewriting of history books Mariah on your continued decline with this pop-schlock like “Obsessed” and these TERRIBLE live performances! This song is SO easy and 123 Paint By Numbers that she should NOT sound this bad singing it.

WHERE HAVE ALL THE LEGENDS GONE?!

Even If They’re $Free.99, I Usually Stay Away From Stars’ Wares. Here’s Why!

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Nov 24, 09

Diddy’s cologne & 50 Cent’s condoms aren’t on my Christmas list. Re-gifting game proper if someone gives them to me for Christmas!

Diddy has signed on with the Home Shopping Network to sell his colognes live on the air — I Am King and Unforgivable. They built him his own set. I hope he calls Tina Knowles for some tips and he brings mama Janice Combs on with him to help. I can only IMAGINE the hilarity that would ensue from that. Outside of the fact that you know, you need to SMELL the cologne to actually see if you like it AND if it works with your body chemistry. Did they invent Smell-O-Vision and no one told me, Diddy?

Oh and did I mention they are also creating a talk-show like set for him for his 2 hour show? Hmm, hopefully this is as close as we get to hearing Diddy breathe heavy into a mic outside of “Making The _____” on MTV. Tyra is enough! Thanks!

From hip hop to home shopping! Media and design mogul Diddy has just announced that he’s heading to HSN to debut his best-selling fragrances I Am King and Unforgivable on the network. WWD reports that the Home Shopping Network has already built Diddy his own special living-room-style set in St. Petersburg, Fla. from which he’ll host a two-hour talk-show-like program selling the scents live. Fragrance fans can tune in on Nov. 30 from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. to watch Diddy’s show. (Source)

And 50 Cent, he of the many side hustles that generally do better than his MAIN hustle, had a condom line that he was trying to promote. Unfortunately, the condoms weren’t viable. Did I mention he was trying to add his own version of Extenze TO the condom? No. Oh yeah. Well, there ya go. Better get that nut before your condom self-destructs (like his record sales) ROFL!

50 Cent admits he wanted to enhance users’ sexual pleasure at the same time by adding chemicals to the condom to boost men’s performance – but his idea failed because scientists couldn’t come up with a viable solution. (Source)

I’ll stick with my K-Mart layway. Thanks!

Music Video: Dirty Money – “Love Come Down”

Written by The IPS in Videos on Nov 12, 09

Um, not only will their love be coming down, but so will their account balances.

This video could have been so much better…and the sad thing is this song has grown on me. What Diddy fails to do is EDIT HIMSELF. And his ego clearly. Someone needs to sit him down and work these things out because this could have been a salvageable song if they had:

      • Removed that ridiculous “room full of vultures” refrain from the whole hook
      • Took off this Kaleena chick — sorry. Her singing feels flat and lacks “oomph” and her voice is mediocre.
      • TOOK OFF DIDDY

LOL if this was a Dawn song, it’d have been hot. The music itself is interesting (what is that, pipes, marimbas!?) though I’m not sure WHAT this song is talking about.

But the visuals are just so…what is going on? Why is Sean wearing a GRILL! He looks like Yo Gotti! He is too old and has too much money for that. How is this Dirty Money thing coming together because I am not seeing the vision. He is not making it plain!

It felt like I was watching an OLD Bad Boy video, what with the tunnel, lighting and smoke and whatnot. I hate to break it to Diddy but Last Train to Paris may be his last train ANYWHERE. This whole thing just isn’t gelling. Watching Dawn, it feels like she knows this too and is just going through the motions so that she can get a check.

Their personal choreography was a bit mind-numbing too, if there was any in the first place…just so much that could have gone right went wrong in this probably overly expensive video. When will the artists and labels learn?

Live Performances: Mariah Carey Performs “I Want To Know What Love Is” In Italy

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Nov 12, 09

Man, the first minute and a half of this performance is so AWFUL.

Just pay attention around the 1:23-24 mark where Mariah obviously switches to the performance/lip-synch track! It’s SO OBVIOUS!

I mean, LOL, she started off flat. I see she did grab for her in-ear monitors, but…that’s a classic move.

I’m sorry, I just can’t believe that Mariah Carey started off like that…my heart hurts.

She is promoting her single/album in Italy on their version of the UK’s X-Factor show. Some poor person walked out of that studio and cursed her out in Italian, I believe that to my soul ROFL.

Man…that was just…Mariah still trying to find out what love is…I’m still trying to find out where her voice is. I hope she never pisses off the dude who runs her backline and her vocal backing tracks ROFL. Meltdown!

I want to see her go to Australia with that — they just about beheaded Britney Spears for lipsynching this past week…

      So H-Town & Jodeci’s New Song = NOSTALGIAFAIL!

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Oct 16, 09

H-Town & Jodeci – “Knockin’ Your Heels” [Listen & Download]

Jodeci and (what’s left of) H-Town have gotten together (why!? whose idea was this!?) and recorded a song called “Knockin’ Your Heels” and it’s pretty terrible.

In terms of “Titans of the 90’s”, you can never go wrong with Jodeci. I feel like…don’t shoot me for this though…H-Town were kind of one hit wonders though. Yeah, I said it.

But Jodeci ain’t been right since K-Ci & JoJo split off and started making urban power ballads…so I’m not sure what to think of this song.

However, I’m gonna throw out this Dru Hill song that came out in 2008, when they were supposedly “reuniting” & adding a new member. It was SO GOOD. I was all geeked for a reunion and everything. And then…nothing. It was called “Get Loose” and it just went so hard. Peep it!

Their vocals…the harmonies…Sisqo’s lead…man this song was just CLASSIC DRU. So mad they never released it.

So yeah, “Get Loose” > “Knockin’ Your Heels”.

I won’t even being on the vocals from H-Town and Jodeci. What’s their combined name, Jo-Town? *passes*

“VH1 Divas” Is Returning…With Few Divas. And Some “Singers”.

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Sep 9, 09

      Photo from Rolling Stone

Sooo you mean to tell me that MILEY CYRUS is a diva, but Toni Braxton is PRESENTING!?

What in sam hell…I don’t think I’m going to watch this. There are so many things wrong with this lineup…

H1 Divas added a Dreamgirl and a trio of rockers to their lineup today as the network announced that Jennifer Hudson, Sheryl Crow, Cyndi Lauper and Melissa Etheridge will all perform at the September 17th concert at Brooklyn, New York’s Academy of Music. Martina McBride will also perform on the special. The quintet joins a previously announced roster of lady vocal talent: Leona Lewis, Kelly Clarkson, Miley Cyrus, Jordin Sparks and Adele. As Rolling Stone previously reported, former American Idoljudge Paula Abdul will host the festivities, which will be broadcast live on September 17th on VH1.

In addition to the performers, VH1 also revealed that the evening’s presenters will include The Hills alums Lauren Conrad and Whitney Port, My Life on the D-List host Kathy Griffin, fellow diva Toni Braxton, the cast of the Fame remake and actor Ryan Kwanten, who plays Jason Stackhouse on HBO’s True Blood. (Source)

Half of these women just “relatively” getting their start…if “divas” = woman singers, ok. Fine. Sure.

But MILEY CYRUS? She’s neither a diva nor a singer. Girl has some good songs, but Toni better be shilling a new album around then to justify this mockery of her career. I can’t. Seriously! And Cyndi Lauper has been on the show more than any other diva ever.

Ugh, I will probably still watch it though. You know I am partial to some women singing. BUT STILL. COME ON! Oh the injustice. How dreadful (c) Dwight Eubanks.

New “Music”: Mariah Carey – “I Want To Know What Love Is”

Mariah Carey – “I Want To Know What Love Is” [Download]

I was sitting here jammin’ to Nikka Costa’s latest one…and had to turn it down to listen to this foolishness LOL! FAIL!

Anyway, I’m sure ya’ll already know what I think. Mariah Carey has become a caricature of herself. She turns in a decent performance, but it’s sure to be a future let-down because I don’t think she can re-create it live and if she does, it’ll surely be lip-synched and the backup singers WILL be earning their pay.

She turns in a schmaltzy overdone version of Foreigner’s classic song (which was once derided back in the 80’s anyway). She uses her Mariah Carey-esque “vocal dynamics” to give us the impression that she is really feeling it. I’m sure she pictured Nick Cannon through the studio glass while she recorded a la Beyonce’/Jamie Foxx’s “Listen” in Dreamgirls.

Of course she kicks the whistle notes (or what’s left of them) into high gear toward the end of the song so that she doesn’t have to sustain them as long throughout the rest of the song. And this sums up Mariah Carey’s career as of late. Saving the last bit she has til’ the end. Histrionics do NOT equal singing.

If you want real singing, please divert your attention away from this chick and hit up that Ledisi album!

New Music: Mariah Carey – “Obsessed”

Written by The IPS in New Music & Reviews on Jun 17, 09

Mariah Obsessed Single CoverMariah Carey – “Obsessed”

      Wow.

This is what we get as the great return of Mariah Carey? It truly is a wrap. And to add insult to injury, the song is a “diss” song or kiss-off song to Eminem apparently? Don’t she got money that’s way longer than him!? She needs to quit!

The fact that Mariah has given in to auto-tune on the high notes towards the end of the song doesn’t bode well. It’s a song typical of the Mariah template — histrionics at the end, catchy (barely) hip-hop beat and lots of lyrical posturing and posing.

I wasn’t expecting much better honestly, and when the cover leaked, I figured that we’d be getting something sexy and upbeat. But…this song falls so far below my expectations that I think it’s just about time to throw it in the towel with my love for Mariah. Her voice just ain’t what it used to be, and apparently neither is her ear. She’s Mariah, she can do what she wants, and maybe the next single will redeem her.

      But I doubt it.

And as far as The-Dream and Tricky, this track is so phoned in…and I’m not even going to talk about the “remix” with the Gucci Mane verses on it. I WILL NOT.

Pretty Ricky Is Still Making Records Though!?

Written by The IPS in Blogs on May 26, 09

Imagine my surprise as I return from vacation and see the Internet buzzing about some Pretty Ricky video. I’m thinking, “who let them boys out of their broom closet to make some more ‘music’?!” Imagine my surprise when it’s just the light-skinned Spectacular one grinding with himself & his guardian angel in his little sister’s starter panties!

      What!? REALLY!?

I made it about 30 seconds past the intro and promptly had to go scrub my soul.

Who ever would think this was ok?! They got a new single…wamp. Nobody cares. Grind contest? What? Since when did Bow Wow start grinding? Does he know something we don’t?

And why is there a dude in the group named Lingerie?! He must change his name immediately after this fiasco.

If this ain’t zesty, I’ll pay you a quarter! Spring chicken lookin, paint lickin, paste eating, anemic braid having, zesty lookin boy LOL. I CANNOT!
