    • Clipse Get Serious In “Freedom” Clip

Written by The IPS in Videos on Jan 19, 10

I’ve been jamming Til’ The Casket Drops on a couple of road trips and traveling and I got to say, that is a pretty grimy but impressive album. I’ve been a fan anyway, but the singles they released — I had to warm up to them. “Freedom” is the track that kicks off the album and sets an appropriate tone for what you can expect from the rest of the album.

The video is all black and white, all stark and dark contrasts and visuals that match the lyrics. Just a couple of close-up shots that reflect to me how introspective this song is, and how we are all viewers of the shows that are the Thronton Bros. lives. I like that!

Live Performance Dopeness: The Noisettes & Clipse

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jan 8, 10

One of my favorite groups as of late to come from across the ocean is The Noisettes. I’ve talked about them before, and I spotted this performance of their lead singer Shingai Shoniwa performing with Jools Holland’s big band on his New Year’s Eve special. She performed “Don’t Upset The Rhythm” and gave it the big band treatment, and it was HOT. She sounded great. Got on the piano, ran around stage barefoot and didn’t miss any notes. It was a little bit “stiff” on the account of the band and their ages (LOL), but  I loved this. Even the time signature change. Dope! Peep the real video for “Don’t Upset The Rhythm” here if you’ve never heard the song before…I love this song. Shouts to Soulculture!

Every time I hear this song I love it more! Clipse have been performing it everywhere, but this one is special because it’s assisted by The Roots AND Black Thought jumps in for a couple of bars. Do I smell a remix? Let’s hope so. The Roots liven up ALL of the performances from Fallon though…

My only observation is that rap music is SO simple these days, The Roots barely even break a sweat doing it live. LOL, I know some days they are on auto-pilot. This is hot though so enjoy!

The Clipse Are Back By “Popular Demand”, With Milk Carton Cam’ron Too

Written by The IPS in Videos on Nov 16, 09

Virginia duo Clipse are back, with their much anticipated proper album Til The Casket Drops hitting us on December 8th. They’ve had some street single, some other videos and whatnot, but this is the first that I’ve felt compelled to post LOL. I like Clipse, despite their penchant for drug/gun play rhymes, I like their voices and usually their production is pretty good and interesting.

“Popular Demand (Popeyes)” is their latest single and features Cam’ron! Cam’ron looks like a scruffy cousin of Jim Jones. Good or bad thing, I’m not sure. Pharrell is on the beat, of course, as The Neptunes are the ones that are largely responsible for their mainstream success.

No Creole birds were harmed in the shooting of this video.

Check it out, the song knocks. You pretty much know what you are getting with Clipse…
