    • Christina Aguilera’s “You Lost Me” Is An Attempt At A Power Ballad And Some Emotion

Written by The IPS in Videos on Jul 22, 10

Christina Aguilera’s second single from her Bionic has finally premiered. The Anthony Mandler-directed clip for “You Lost Me” is an ethereal-yet-reality laden clip, featuring an emotionally fragile Christina Aguilera retreating into a fantasy world as the world she had crafted for her and her love has begun to collapse.

I do like the Sia-penned song — it takes Aguilera vocally to a place that her Bionic album in the norm doesn’t take her to. However, for some reason, I can’t get any joy from this video nor the song in this moment. Christina feels a little overdone, pretentious, and unsure of herself. Bionic was such a disaster — so many different thoughts and opposite ends of the spectrum that I couldn’t keep up. How she goes from “Not Myself Tonight” to this song in one fell swoop kind of illustrates that to me.

I almost want to hear this song delivered by someone else who doesn’t come with all the career baggage that Aguilera comes with. Shoot, maybe even Sia should have just kept it for herself.

Christina Aguilera Steps Up To The Mic For The NBA Finals Game 6′s National Anthem

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jun 15, 10

OK, Christina Aguilera changed keys within the first 10 seconds LOL. Like someone said on Twitter, this performance was half bad/half good, but she cleaned it up towards the end. But for her to be HER, I slightly expected a bit more vocally. She STILL did better than Anita Baker last game…MAN HAHAHAHA.

However, I have to say, one of my favorite NBA National Anthem’s was when Destiny’s Child did it at the All-Star Game in 2006. Someone sent me to this and OMG, I just watch it over and over again. They did their GOOD singing, especially MICHELLE. My goodness, girl held down that low note like a member of Take 6 LOL. Loved it.

Hit that after the jump if you are so inclined…

Christina Aguilera Has “Lost Me” With This New Album, Honestly…But…

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jun 10, 10

Christina’s new CD Bionic has been sitting here staring me in my face for like, a week. I skipped through it a couple of times, but I just can’t get into it on the whole. And her live antics have been turning me off like Keri Hilson too.

However, “Lost Me” is a song that seems like it would be GREAT if someone else were singing it. How is it that Christina Aguilera can sing but she can’t?! Think about that. If she was a singer at a black church, we would sit down on her because she does THEE most. She was just all over the place during this performance and I couldn’t even enjoy the song without being force-fed 20 seconds of melisma per one note that was sung well.

So yeah, that’s all I’m going to say. LOL.

Christina Aguilera Has Resulted To A Glow In The Dark Sugarbox To Sell Records.

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jun 7, 10

OK, I skipped the MTV Movie Awards this year. I’m in finals week and judging from the East Coast tweets, I really didn’t miss anything. For a full recap, check out Rich’s blog over at FourFour. He’s hilarious.

That being said, I scoured for Christina Aguilera’s performance and…wow.

Xtina has fully gone balls to the wall with this album and the overhyped sexuality. She is just RATCHET. Did ya’ll see her sugarbox flashing? Sugarbox is what the old folks call that “area” and when they zoomed in on and it was a glowing heart, I just about LOST! Girl you got KIDS coming out of your “Woo Hoo”! That ain’t sessy! HAHA

I mean, she did OK. The first song, “Bionic”, was meh. “Not Myself Tonight” was a lot more hype, but she slipped into that “holleration” she always does. And then “Woo Hoo” had no Nicki Minaj, but wow. Xtina. OK. Whatever it takes! The staging was dope and the dancers were too. But, wow. What ya’ll think?

I’m Trying To Get Behind Christina But I Can’t And This Is Why…

Written by The IPS in Blogs on May 7, 10

Christina Aguilera did her new song on Oprah and so of course, I’m sure she will get a huge bump and boost along the way (though the song has been getting some radio play anyway).

“Not Myself Tonight”, as “different” as Christina may think it is, is really not THAT different. But I can see that the one that hasn’t changed is her penchant for oversinging and hollering. Trying to do all that melisma over a dance beat? Ma’am, please take that white-girl power squall and go sing a ballad!

She’s going to have to adapt her voice with the quickness for the stripped down nature of dance/electro-esque vocals, because by the end of this performance, she was a screeching, hollering and slightly flat mess! I love you but no!

Christina Aguilera Has Caught A Spirit And Is Clearly “Not” Herself Tonight!

Written by The IPS in Videos on Apr 30, 10

When in doubt, do some hoe-ish to “shock” folks, get them talking, and sell some records. Cause it’s not about singing anymore, especially when you are as deep in the game as Christina Aguilera. We KNOW she can sing — that’s not her issue. Her issue (and anyone who has been around for that  long of an amount of time) is how to stay relevant. And in a post-Lady GaGa (sorry, comparisons are inevitable ya’ll!) world, this is it right here.

Is this first time Christina has changed up to sell records? Of course not. She was channeling the 60′s/70′s last record. She’s flipped to a dance/electronic sound this album and is clearly ratcheting up the level of risque choices to keep her name in our mouths and clicks on this video. Cause Youtube views are the new Myspace plays, you ain’t know?

I think the instrumental for this song is hot, and I’m not TOTALLY shocked by this video. Initially yes, but I thought about it, and Christina has always been trying to get away from her “Genie In A Bottle” days. “Not Myself Tonight” just puts her in contention to keep the eyeballs on her while Lady GaGa is recording a new album and is on tour. I see ya’ll RCA, ya’ll not slick.

Video was directed by Hype Williams and I got to say, Hype kind of did his thing after all the major disappointments he’s had with me lately. But again, if you stop and think about it, we’ve seen ALL this before. Even down to the product placement and black latex paint…

All New Music Everythang: Ciara, Nicki Minaj, Christina Aguilera, Dirty Money & Hal Linton

      Ciara – Speechless (Feat. The-Dream)

Hell to the hell to the hell to the no! There are no “goodies” musically, vocally or melodically anywhere in this song! The-Nightmare should just take the L and go be baby daddy. Ciara should keep selling shoes. The world would keep on spinning without their music, seriously. I just don’t understand how this pulsating caterwauling passes for singles or singing. Who thinks this is hot?! Please exit via the Big Red X up to your right.

It really gets unbearable around the 3:00 mark when their two voices are tripping over each other in the contest to see which could make my ears bleed the greatest. Only thing missing is Cassie doing ad-libs and Diddy singing “Angels” via Skype. I cannot. I’m speechless alright! The hook alone makes me want to choke a small kitten. Ugh.

      Nicki Minaj – “Massive Attack”

      Well………………..

      The beat is hot though!

I am convinced that Onika AKA Nicki Minaj just spouts whatever comes to mind that kind of rhymes. So many questions though — why do they have these faux British accents? I mean, seriously. It’s a bit ridiculous. Nicki Minaj has a couple of “singing” parts that she sounds good on, how ironic. Sean Garrett shouldn’t feature on anything — he drags this down. And Tom Toms are Tommy guns, as in submachine guns, right? Other than that, I’m lost. I’m sure this video (with Amber Rose) which is set to drop this week will be EPIC or something. I guess she couldn’t rhyme any reindeers with “Massive Attack”, thank God. LOL!

Christina Aguilera – “Not Myself Tonight”

No ma’am this ain’t it. Christina Aguilera sings too well for these GaGa-esque shenanigans. Songs about kissing a girl maybe? Who are you, Katy Perry’s auntie? Lady GaGa’s older cousin? Christina Aguilera’s latest opus Bionic is headed to stores in June, and “Not Myself Tonight” is the first single. It was produced by Polow Da Don and co-written by Ester Dean (“Drop It Low”). Hmm, well, it’s certainly over-produced to match her over-singing and it’s just too much. Too, too much.

Dirty Money – “Hello, Good Morning” Feat. T.I.

Well, this song is certainly danceable. Now strip out ALL the vocals except the hook and swap out Diddy’s vocals for Dawn’s on that hook and I’d be sold. No seriously, Dirty Money just needs to be downsized to Dawn and it’d be a LOT more believable than its current incarnation. T.I.’s verse is neither here nor there to me, it could also have been left off. I’m just glad it ain’t Nicki Minaj…

      Hal Linton – “Mind Control”

Hal Linton first came onto my radar during the Super Bowl I think in that Motown tribute they did. He has an interesting voice, and I think he might have something if they can get him to breakout like they did Melanie Fiona (he’s on the same label). However, this song sounds like Jazmine Sullivan “Bust Your Windows” Redux, and that is going to instantly turn some folks off. Coincidentally, it was produced by Salaam Remi, who produced Jazmine’s hit as well. It’ll be interesting to see how they try and market this dude.
