    • Awareness: It’s National Bullying Prevention Month, And CHESS Promotes The Beauty Within

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Oct 20, 12

Friend of Tha Feedback Chester Gregory, now going under the moniker CHESS, has released a video of a cover of One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful” in honor of National Bullying Prevention Month. CHESS is working on a new album after wrapping his latest role on Broadway in Sister Act with Raven-Symone. While I’m not entirely familiar with the original, CHESS offers up a beautiful arrangement with some great backgrounds underneath a video featuring a woman struggling with inner & outer beauty. It’s a juxtaposition that leaves you mesmerized.

Check out the above and if you like the song, you can stream it as well at CHESS’ SoundCloud. I had no idea National Bullying Prevention Month existed, and apparently this video is in honor of someone:

In support of National Bullying Prevention Month and in response to the tragic loss of Amanda Todd, we felt it appropriate to release this short film & cover of WMYB, which was shot prior to the incident. One Direction’s hit song What Makes You Beautiful is an uplifting song, encouraging one to let go of insecurities and realize their fullest potential by first recognizing the beauty & strength within. Chester Gregory’s “If U Only” Is A Case of Reliving Past Mistakes

Written by The IPS in Videos on Feb 14, 11

In more Chester Gregory news today, part deux, he’s also dropped his video for his song “If U Only”. Featuring a fine woman and some drama in reverse, he’s regretting some decisions he’s made and wishing he could go back and change somethings because the love he’s had is now gone and he’s feeling a bit remorseful. Aren’t we all?

“If U Only” is taken from his album In Search of Higher Love… and it’s available on iTunes now. You can also get the mixtape he released today as well here! Chester’s soaring range and vocals have benefitted him well both on and off Broadway.

This video was ALSO directed by Matthew Cherry — two videos in one day! Nice.

      Download Chester Gregory - If U Only...The Mixtape (383) (Right Click & “Save As…”)

Award winning Broadway star and solo artist Chester Gregory is tossing his hat back into the ring with the release of his new mixtape If U Only…The Mixtape. Released Valentine’s Day 2011, it’s a one track journey through love and inspiration. Chester is sharing the songs that inspired him to write and record material from his original album and some new exclusive tunes that are available on this mixtape.

Classics such as The Flamingo’s “I Only Have Eyes For You”, Jackie Wilson’s “A Woman, A Lover, A Friend” (which is laid over a classic J. Dilla beat), and even The Fugees’ “Zealot” were all inspirations for Chester’s music. The purpose of this mixtape is also to share the music that he’s been working on over the past year while on the road with the national tour of “Dreamgirls” and to hopefully inspire us, the listeners, to get back to love and creativity.

Chester is in the lab working on his sophomore album with producer Dot Da Genius, and is anticipating a summer 2011 release for that project. The mixtape was made in collaboration with Arizona DJ Mr. Mo. If you don’t have Chester’s debut album In Search of High Love, you can get that here!

Coverage: Carmen Reece Does Rihanna’s “Only Girl” & Chester Gregory Remixes “I Want You Baby”

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Oct 14, 10

Carmen Reece has a Youtube channel full of covers of current songs, but this one caught my ear. I always feel like Rihanna’s songs aren’t really the problem — moreso that it is her singing them. “Rude Boy” was a JAM, but I always felt guilty because I had to sit through the theme from “Lambchop’s Playalong.”

Anyway, Ms. Reece does a cover of Rihanna’s latest, “Only Girl (In The World)” and while she does slow it down a bit much, I thought it was still kind of interesting. What do you guys think?

I Want You Baby (Revisited) Mp3 by Chester Gregory

Blog fave Chester Gregory takes a moment from his busy schedule as James “Thunder” Early in the traveling off-Broadway play of “Dreamgirls” to revisit one of the songs his character sings in the play. He kicks it up a notch, and adds his trademark vocals. If you’re a fan of the song, check this out!

Music Monday: Chester Gregory Does A Tribute To J. Dilla And Jackie Wilson With New Joint

Written by The IPS in New Music & Reviews on Aug 2, 10

A Woman, A Lover, A Friend (Download for free at www.ChesterGregory.com) by Chester Gregory

Broadway actor and entertainer and solo artist Chester Gregory is blessing the Internets today with a new joint he put together for his fans AND fans of the late great J. Dilla and also original soul singer Jackie Wilson. Chester Gregory puts together an interesting melange of a J. Dilla beat (Slum Village’s “Eyes Up”) and the Jackie Wilson song “A Woman A Lover A Friend”. You can hear the original below. Chester mixes both of his inspirations and brings this song into 2010 with an updated flair. It’s pretty dope that it fits SO well — the beat wasn’t altered at all. Get into this, and hear both of the original songs after the jump.

If you want to cop the download, head over to Chester’s official website!

Get Your Dose Of “Breakbeat Karaoke” With Chester Gregory For The Rest of the Summer

Written by The IPS in New Music & Reviews on Jul 27, 10

Chester Gregory - Breakbeat Karaoke: A Karaoke Mixtape (Right-Click & Save)

Tha Feedback favorite Chester Gregory has ALSO thrown his hat into the ring of mixtapes for you to listen to…for free!

This one doesn’t disappoint either. It’s Chester Gregory and some of his producers from his debut album In Search of High Love… reinterpreting some of his songs over classic hip-hop beats from such producers as J. Dilla and artists like Jay-Z.

It also features the incomparable Ledisi scatting on a track (“Don’t Know What To Say…”) (heaven in mp3 format!), a cover of Omarion’s “Icebox” and a dope version of one of my favorite songs off his album “Search In” mixed with Pharcyde’s “Runnin’”.

Cop this and play it while you are in the house cleaning and cutting up watermelon for that summer cookout. Chester’s vocals never disappoint and it’s even some humor thrown in!

Visit his website, follow him on Twitter, and more importantly go cop that album! Don’t know who he is? Check out our interview as well!

And stay tuned for new music dropping next week!

*That’s his son in the cover if you were wondering!

Chester Gregory Keeps The Quality R&B Coming With “Let’s Be Together”

Written by The IPS in New Music & Reviews on Dec 3, 09

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

      Chester Gregory - Let's Be Together (Right-Click & Save)

One of my favorites and one of the only real singers holding it down for R&B that I check for right now, Mr. Chester Gregory, has dropped another gem. “Let’s Be Together” is produced by the soulful PJ Morton as well, so we get two-for-one for FREE. I mean, Christmas is early!

This excellently done song has strains of Gospel, an almost country undertone (think about it — this could easily be a country song!), and it’s old and soulful like it could be a Platters or Temptations song as well (think The Five Heartbeats?). So versatile in their songwriting, I love this joint. PJ Morton’s stamp is definitely all over this yet Chester still shines vocally.

Happy good music is still coming from SOMEWHERE…
