    • New Music: My Only “Dream” Is For The Madness To Stop

Written by Donovan in New Music & Reviews on Jun 9, 11

Let me preface this by saying that the only song that The-Dream has released that I have enjoyed is “I Luv Your Girl” off of his 1st album. Every album after that has been excrutiating to me and I have found that I loathe pretty much everything about his solo career. But of course, I sucked up the pain and listened to the NINE MINUTE DUAL SINGLE called “Body Work/F**k My Brains Out” from his new album The Love, IV (Diary of a Mad Man) only because I didn’t want you to have to. Call me generous.

If R. Kelly‘s lyrics and Prince‘s production (during his “The Artist” phase) came together over the screechings of a dying cat, you get The-Dream‘s new single. As a matter of fact you can probably sum up most of his career with that description. This single is trying its hardest to be an epic, climatic ode to raunchy sex.  I for one vote no, and all of the women who have had his children probably agree. It’s a mish mash of styles that does not come together for me. I hear that this was self-produced which is also very telling.

Don’t get me wrong. The-Dream does have an ear for a pop hook and melody and I often enjoy his music FOR OTHER PEOPLE, but his vocal ability does nothing for me. He often sounds like a koala bear drowning and that’s just not pleasant for any one. However, I’m sure people will love this in the club, but I will take my water break if this comes on. Please readers, tell me I’m wrong.

The Way Cee Lo Stunts Is A Habit In His New “I Want You” Clip

Written by The IPS in Videos on May 27, 11

If Cee Lo Green was anyone else, he’d get the extreme side-eye, am I right!? I mean, this dude hasn’t met a sequined bedazzled brightly colored piece of clothing that he WOULDN’T rock. He is channeling his Negrorache swag something HARD in his new “I Want You” clip.

However, at the end of the day, Cee Lo makes decent music with his ample, capable soulful and soaring voice, and he is enjoyable to listen to the majority of the time. I’ve always admired how he’s not let one genre define him — he can rap, sing, emote, and be pop with the best of them, but at the end of the day, the single strand that is always recognizable is the DNA that is Cee Lo.

But still, this clip, I’m not too sure. As if that rotating piano at the American Music Awards wasn’t risky enough…that seafoam green blouse is doing A LOT!

Hump Day Coonery: Monica’s “Everything To Me” Never Sounded So Bad…

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jan 26, 11

Feast your eyes and ears upon my man Izibode. Do I know him personally? No. Do I want to? ALMOST. ROFL. Because you cannot tell this dude that he isn’t doing his GOOD singing, do you hear me?

And to top it off, HE HAS 62 VIDEOS. As in, he actually recorded himself singing 62 different songs and posted them on Youtube.

I don’t know what it is — him picking up the microphone, or someone telling him to be quiet by hollering something I can’t understand…all I know is that Izibode has made my 2011 already. Reminds me of SopeHarmony’s “Buy U A Drank” cover, doesn’t it? Thanks to Marc for sending this in!

Jesse McCartney’s “Shake” Is A Perfect Example Of Doing The Most…

Written by The IPS in Videos on Nov 18, 10

While I’ve never been a huge Jesse McCartney fan, I know he was trying to get a little soulful on his last record Departure, even doing a re-release that featured songs with Ludacris and T-Pain. And that brings us to his next record Have It All, which has songs produced by Sean Garrett, and gives us the gem that is “Shake”.

Why do I feel like I am watching Robin Thicke’s younger self sneaking out and going to a strip club while the parents are on a cruise to the Bahamas? Stop!

This is just a tad bit too unbelievable for me. We get clean cut Jesse McCartney doing his best milk man impression in this suit and slicked down pomade hair….but we have girls in booty shorts shaking that a** like they just fell off of a heavenly pole?

I mean, I know he’s an adult and doing more adult things, but the contrast here makes it wholly ridiculous.

You tried it. Let’s wait for the remix with Nicki Minaj or other XYZ rapper…and then the re-release around March of next year, since Have It All comes out December 28th.

Ne-Yo Talks About The Current State of R&B. I Scoff.

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jul 17, 10

OK, seriously, Ne-Yo: pot, kettle, kettle, pot — have ya’ll met?

I respect what Ne-Yo has done as an artist, producer, songwriter, businessman, etc. Am I fan of his music? Cherrypicking through his catalog, sure. He has some decent songs. Most of which I feel might have done better if they were sung by others, but still, I give props where they are due.

However, with this “Beautiful Monster” foolery he has going on lately (which I would posit is NOT R&B, AT ALL), I don’t think he should be casting stones at anyone with that fragile glass house his own music is living in currently.

Now, he’s entitled to his opinion like anyone else, but the fact that he started it off by saying that Trey Songz’s voice is incredible already lets me know that he ain’t about nothing. That was Ne-Yo not shutting any doors down or burning any bridges for Trey’s NEXT record. Catch it!

I’ll be posting up Ne-Yo’s two new videos shortly — aren’t you excited? LOL.

Raz B’s Video Budget Is Probably Similar To A “3rd World Country” Too…

Written by The IPS in Videos on Jun 14, 10

      WOW. Why?

      Just why!? #icantsupportit

Raz B is still trying to make music…this sounds like he made it on his neighbor’s AT&T Netbook built-in webcam and Windows Movie Maker. The song itself sounds recorded with his Blackberry’s voice notes recorder and mixed in iTunes or something. Wow.

I have no other words, but I will send up a prayer for him. He probably spent his rent money and used up all his accrued PTO at Wal-mart to make this too. Jah bless!

Are You Going To Buy Marques Houston’s Music “Tonight”…Or Never?

Written by The IPS in Videos on May 5, 10

Marques Houston, I need you to gather your things together and please move back in next door next to Tia & Tamera on the “Sister, Sister” tonight, because we are all in agreeance here in the real world that your music is really generic, boring and kinda just, BLAH.

I swear he was interning at whatever studio Ne-Yo was working in, stole some ish off the hard drive, mopped up some of Ne-Yo’s swagger in a bunch, bathed in it, and then came out with this “Tonight” track.

Did he shoot this in a Los Angeles tunnel with graffiti? I swear I know where this is!

      I’m sorry, ya’ll, I just can’t.

Diddy Has A Grill. A Lower One At That. WHY COME!?

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Apr 6, 10

Diddy has too much money and has been around too long to resort to this.

This is the commercial that “Diddy-Dirty Money” (why the dash now, is that supposed to separate him from this train wreck just in case…) shot for the Final Four for NCAA basketball.

I really really am sticking to my guns on this one thing — I think Dawn should be the frontperson for this “experiment”, Diddy should twiddle his thumbs and gnash his teeth/grill, and Kaleena should…I don’t know, ain’t she a songwriter? Ghost vocals? Stylists? Weed carrier? Something.

“Hello, Good Morning” does kinda knock though — again, no vox would be better and if any, just Dawn’s. My $.02.

Donell Jones: Rusty But Relevant? “Where I Wanna Be” Performance

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Mar 16, 10

So, Donell Jones is back and he has a new album coming soon (I will get more details when I get the time!) and so he appeared on The Mo’Nique Show to do “Where I Wanna Be” and another song. In typical IPS fashion, I took to Twitter to share my observations. Well lo and behold, Donell Jones hit me back on Twitter and was a good sport ROFL! See the tweets after the jump and you decide what you think! He does have a project out called The Lost Files I believe if you are itching for some new Donell Jones music.

Donell needed some Throat Coat, some sessions with Boom Kack and a few backup singers to smooth out that performance…

And can I just say that I can’t stand Mo’Nique!? She kept calling him DARNELL JONES. I mean, wow, how tacky! LOL.

Since he was such a good sport, we will do an interview with him fairly soon!

Peep that last tweet about his album making the ladies panties drop — |_________| <– that’s my casket, I’m hopping in. Goodbye world ROFL!

Hark The Return of Sisqo From The Brink of Irrelevancy!

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jan 4, 10

Sisqo has signed on to the latest edition of the UK’s “Celebrity Big Brother 2010″. So, I am guessing that reunion effort and their reality show on Peachtree.tv in ATL yielded no results?

I mean, say what you want, but Sisqo used to be a beast vocally. I see how he handily worked his way around all the money notes in this performance, but shoot, he was the Chris Brown and all them of our time. And I don’t care if you judge me, Sisqo went in on “Incomplete”. That song was hot and one of my favorite songs of the 90′s. I promise you that!

But this reality show mess — anything for a check. His performance was a bit rusty and wow, was he doing “The Jerk”?! OR, was that his same old choreography and it was the jerk back then!? So many questions!

And was his hair still blond or was he bald? It was hard to tell…

Oh well, nikkas gotta eat. And we need something to watch on TV. LOL! Still, overall, I CANNOT.
