    • Live Performance: Beyonce’s “Deja Vu/Crazy In Love” Overseas

Written by The IPS in Blogs on May 1, 09

Beyonce’ may be performing to smaller crowds than she’s used to overseas and here at home because of the economy, but what I love about her is that she still performs the hell out of EVERYTHING.

We can bash her acting all day, but I give props when it comes to her live performances. Her MD’s, musicians and dancers are all top notch and she always gives 100%. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing her live a couple of times, both backstage and in the audience, and it’s always such a musically exhilarating experience.

PLEASE check out that transition from “Deja Vu” to “Crazy in Love” to Jay-Z’s “Give It To Me” to the hip-hop classic “Let Me Clear My Throat” to (I can’t recall that melody) BACK to “Crazy In Love”.

The singing, the horns, just FANTASTIC. She is truly one of the best live performers we have right now, real talk. Her ear is crazy. Give them a cookie!

Enjoy! Spotted at That Grape Juice, holla!

Confession Is Good For The Soul; Who’s Going To See “Obsessed”?

Written by The IPS in Movies on Apr 24, 09

      Beyonce' Obsessed Poster

OK, so all my coontastic friends have threatened, THREATENED me that if I don’t go see this movie with them that they would unfriend me (like, on Facebook or in real life, I don’t know?)! It’s THAT deep.

I feel like the whole world is on crazy pills and I am the only one that realizes this movie is nothing but a Lifetime movie being forced on the masses because Beyonce’ paid for and is starring in it!

      Hello!

So I am gonna go begrudgingly but I am NOT paying for it. I’m jumping the ropes, or sneaking in the back door. Eff that, i’m not spending my recession dollars to see her headbutt someone, WAMP.

FESS UP! Who else is going to go?! We’ve had lively discussion about this on Twitter and Facebook too LOL.

      ROFL

      Beyonce’s Halo Is A Little Tarnished…

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Feb 23, 09

      Beyonce'

Because she is still milking “Single Ladies”.

      Beyonce Launches $250,000 Dance Contest

After singing and dancing with host Hugh Jackman at the Oscars yesterday (Feb. 22), Beyonce is asking her fans to show off their moves. The singer has announced a “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)” dance video contest which invites fans to create a video of their own dance routine for the song, which reached No 1. on the Hot 100. The winner will receive $250,000 and have their video shown during Beyonce’s 2009 “I Am…” world tour.

The “Single Ladies” dance video contest is open to residents of the United States, UK, Japan, and a few other territories who are 18 or older. Submissions are due by March 6, 2009. Visit beyonceonline.com for more information. (Source)

Chick has had a slew of singles, but the one that is still in the minds and radios of America is “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It). I remember when Beyonce’ would have 2-3 smash singles from an album. But on this latest opus of hers, I can honestly say I really don’t even listen to the rest of it aside from that song.

And comes word she’s shooting videos again for the whole album? It was novel and interesting the first time she did it, but now it just reeks of desperation. I’d RATHER her go back in the lab, cut some new songs and put out a retooled version, a la “Blueprint 2.0″.

For real Bee. Just…trim the fat (like “Ave Maria” seriously still WTF @ that) and hit us with some new heat you were saving for the Obsessed soundtrack. I am pretty sure I’m not the only who feels this last album was not your best most complete work.

This contest? Girl, bye. Just take the 50-11 videos off of YouTube!!

Live Performance: Beyonce’s “Halo” @ NAACP Image Awards

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Feb 13, 09

Beyonce’ never disappoints live, but even a little growling and “restrained” hair twirling isn’t enough to save this lackluster song in my opinion. “Single Ladies” is just such a better song to perform live…her energy is always at 11 when she has performed that song (the few times she has), that it’s hard to compare this song. Sure, it’s a slower song, but still.

      She looks good though!

I tried to watch the Image Awards, but I got bored and watched Making The Band 4 instead, LOL. I am a bad African-American. I know, I know. Don’t judge me!

Etta James Needs Some Fiber For That Diarrhea of the Mouth

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Feb 5, 09

      Beyonce as Etta

LOL I’m sure ya’ll have heard about Etta James being a bitter old bitty and going off on Beyonce’. If not, look at it here. SoulBounce has the audio as well.

      My take on this?

Etta James doesn’t own a dang thing, and if memory serves correctly, I don’t think she’s ever written many songs in her lifetime either. Sure, she’s a groundbreaking vocalist and her place in history is pretty cemented. And that may be her signature song, I’ll give her that. But it’s not “HER” song.

People do covers ALL THE TIME. The fact that she came out spewing this venom is ridiculous. I’m no worshipper of Beyonce’ and even I was like, “Please don’t let Beyonce’ sing….AHHH DANG.” When it came out her mouth at the Ball, I was like, well, OK. She sure wasn’t going to sing “Survivor” LOL.

So what, did Etta call up Peggy Lee via Aunt Vivica’s Psychic Friends Network to get her take on Abeybey singing “Fever” in the “Fighting Temptations” movie/soundtrack?

I vote that we get her some cushioned panty hose so she can SAT DOWN. How disrespectful of her legacy, but not really. Etta’s always been a bad broad ROFL. Still.

Her and Auntie Ree’s Inauguration hat both need to go to time out!

      Video: Beyonce’ – “Diva”

Written by The IPS in Videos on Jan 5, 09

I know I am super late but I could not let a moment pass without me weighing in on this video. I mean, “Single Ladies” grew on me after I caught Bey’s live performances of it. But this video has me scratching my head a bit.

I felt like I was watching “Mannequin” meets fashions from the Michael Jackson “Scream” video and an episode of “Dr. Who”.

I really wish Beyahweh would have taken a different tack besides the two dancer thing too. I mean, she just did that.

I think the only part I liked in this video was the Angela Bassett/”Waiting To Exhale” light the car on fire homage. HOT. Nothing like a sassy woman strutting away from the scene of the crime. That was more “diva-ish” than the rest of the video.

I’m sure it’s high art and I am too dense to get it, but dang…this is the song that Beyonce’ could have spazzed out and made fun of herself with or something, ya know?

What ya’ll think? I am super late, but hey, I have a real life with real life bills LOL. Beyonce’ ain’t going nowhere.

ALERT: Beyonce’ NOT The Star of “Cadillac Records”?

Written by The IPS in Movies on Dec 4, 08

I keep hearing that Beyonce’ really ISN’T the star of the upcoming “Cadillac Records”, which hits theatres Friday. You’d never know though from the trailers and movie posters. Though obviously, since she executive produced it, she’s going to get top billing regardless of how much she is really in the movie…

People keep telling me that in fact, she’s only in about the last 20 minutes of the movie!

I know a couple of my friends REALLY didn’t even want to see the movie because they don’t like Beyonce’s acting, and they were thinking that she was in the whole movie. And a whole movie of Beyonce’ acting is akin to watching 100 hours of her zestlestans (zesty + stans) doing her “Single Ladies” dance steps on Youtube.

Then there are her stans who are mad because she ISN’T the star of the movie and is only in the last 20 minutes.

Quite honestly, I’m going for the music and it ain’t like Beyonce’ sounds BAD singing ANYTHING. Is it really that deep? Who else is going to check out “Cadillac Records” tomorrow? I’ll be there to find out.

Beyonce’ Needs More People + Shanice Has Her Number

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Nov 26, 08

      Beyonce/Sasha

So, sales for “I Am…Sasha Fierce” are in and of course, people are praising Beyahweh (may her mane reign forever!). Sales are projected almost be gold out the gate, coming in at 482,000 copies to land her at the top of the charts.

But I just wanted to point out that really, those sales are pretty anemic if you think about it. The RIAA/Soundscan counts double-cd sets TWICE when calculating these figures. Really, she only sold HALF that, for a grand total of 241,000 copies.

Pair that with the fact that “B’Day” started with 541,000 copies, and “Dangerously In Love” opened with 317,000 copies, Sasha Fierce ain’t looking too fierce no more, even with the monster singles, numerous TV appearances and copycat stans all over the net.

I’m happy for her success, but I just think that the “one cd = two sales” is cheating, and I am sure they knew this so that in this time of a depressed economy and waning CD sales, Beyonce’ would still be the “Queen”. Mariah Carey’s barely gone double platinum, can Beyonce’ do it?

I’m wrong — the RIAA counts them twice, but Soundscan doesn’t, so she actually did sell that money. Someone pointed it out to me!

Lastly, Shanice does a cover of “If I Were A Boy”. Shanice got pipes, we know this. I’ve been thinking about people who I want to hear do a cover of this song, and I decided upon Pink. You KNOW that would be hot!

Beyonce' -- Do We Love The Spanglish?

      Loading ... Loading ...

So me and my roommate have been debating this all night after divaTy sent me this song today. I think Beyonce’ is purely motivated by the money of reaching the ever-expanding Latin market (who are poised to overtake African-Americans as the largest minority group in America very soon). She thinks Beyonce’ is catering to her Latin fans and that they appreciate it.

      What do you think?

I think Sasha Fierce put the Robo-glove up to Beyonce’s expensive and expansive lacefront collection and threatened to rip them to shreds if she didn’t go out and make mama that money. Mathew was in the back pulling the strings too! OK, maybe my imagination is running wild, but hey. What do you think? Vote in the poll above!

On the real, I think it started with “Beautiful Disaster” and she saw no one booed that really and it was all downhill from there.

Do I have any Spanish speaking readers? My Spanish ends at “hola” and “gracias” LOL.

      Justin > Beyonce’, Right!?

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Nov 17, 08

Ugh, Beyonce’ and Michelle on one day. Sorry!!

But I did have to post this just to say that A) Despite Justin Timberlake seeming to be such a huge tool, his comedic timing is on point, and the episode that he was on is STILL one of my favorites to this day and B) How did he so single-handedly upstage Beyahweh in the one skit she agreed to be in?

Seriously, he handed her over to the Devil on a silver platter. That “we’re the dancers” line had me rolling. And Andy Samberg doing the hip-roll thing was just…too much.

      Enjoy!
