    • Explore Music: Jai Paul’s “Jasmine” Is An Aural Trip Through A Rubberband-Soul Alternative Universe

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Apr 9, 12

You’ve probably never heard of Jai Paul. If you’ve heard Beyonce’s “End of Time”, then you’ve heard of Jai Paul. His song “BTSU” was sampled for the intro of that song — specifically the “don’t f**k with me” line. So if you thought you did hear the f-bomb at the beginning of the song — you did!

Jai Paul is an elusive beatsmith and creator, but the two songs he has released have been AMAZING. Even “Jasmine” is tagged as a “demo” officially for whatever reason. But the slinky soul, funky, hand-clapped menagerie of melody that is this song is undeniable. The vibe seeps into your psyche and you find yourself wanting to hit repeat and run it back.

Jai Paul’s vocals are light and nimble but laced in old soul and new sensibilities. It both counteracts and melds into the track, with just enough tentativeness to draw you in even more, listen upon listen.

I’m hoping he’ll release material more often, but “Jasmine” is a dope a** song, and you need to get up on this immediately.

Apparently The “Best Thing” Beyoncé Never Had Was A Plot

Written by Donovan in Videos on Jul 8, 11

Beyoncé looks great in this video.

She even looks great when just singing in front of the camera in her wedding undergarments.

She is finally over her ex from 1998 - why so serious, girl? that’s a long time to wait - and get’s married, and looks great.

She gets her boogie on with children and still looks great.

This song and video are both mediocre; but hey, Beyoncé looks great!

      Sorry I’ve got nothing…

Album Review: Beyoncé Keeps It Surprisingly Simple On “4″

Written by Donovan in New Music & Reviews on Jun 29, 11

      Beyoncé – 4
      3.5 out of 5 stars

Beyoncé has proven time and time again that she is a force to be reckoned with. Combining her sheer vocal prowess with consistently improving performance ability and an unparalleled work ethic have put her in a class all of her own. However, one of the apparent problems that prevents her from joining some of the all time greats is the deliverance of a classic LP; one where no one can deny its pure artistic merits. 4 is a step closer to that goal, but still misses the mark.

Behind The Lights, Camera & Action, The Fact Remains: Beyonce’ Can Still Work A Song.

Written by The IPS in Blogs on May 26, 11

Beyonce’s husband gives us a behind-the-scenes peek into Beyonce’s dressing room rehearsal as she gets ready to perform “1+1″ on American Idol last night.

People’s reactions to the “Return of Beyonce’” have totally turned me off, but this song, in all it’s Prince meets Etta James with a side of Patti LaBelle inflections is soulfully good, relative to the sheer massiveness of Beyonce’s catalogue and also to the rest of pop music as a whole. Let’s keep everything in that proper context.

I’m not one for these stans jumping slick, and I know I haven’t posted a lot in the past few weeks, but I had to stop in and post this. Sorry my last post was a Beyonce’ post as well.

“1+1″ is sure to set CD players and iPod’s aflame once the album drops, but it’s on iTunes now. What are your thoughts? I’ll take this over “Run the World” any day of the week though.

Beyonce’s Back And She Brought Mad Max Along With Her In “Run The World (Girls)” Clip

Written by The IPS in Videos on May 19, 11

She’s back. The stans are on high alert, Zatarain’s Creole-inspired box dishes are flying off the shelves in droves, and Kelly Rowland is praying her single doesn’t drop it like it’s hot on the Billboard 100. Beyonce’s “Run The World” video has landed to much fanfare (but not as much as Lady Gaga is getting behind her new singles….), and let the critique begin. Here’s my two cents.

Coverage: VanJess Attempt To Try To “Run The World” Like Beyonce’

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Apr 25, 11

So a reader sent this over the email this weekend and I thought it was interesting enough to run by y’all and see what y’all think! I knew it was only a matter of time before the “Run The World (Girls)” covers started to hit Youtube. This is actually the first one I’ve seen, and probably the last because I tend NOT to seek out headaches LOL.

These girls did their thing though and I’m not mad at them for it. They are on Twitter as well, so go hit them up and tell them that Tha Feedback sent ya! Also, if you liked what they heard, they do have a Youtube page and you can check out their extensive catalog of covers over there too.

      Thanks Marc!

96.75% Of The Girls That Hear This Song Aren’t Actually Running The “World”, Beyonce’

Written by The IPS in New Music & Reviews on Apr 21, 11

Beyonce’ is a pop star making pop music. I don’t expect any more or any less from her than that.

However, as one of the few superstars that we have left in this world, that are worldwide names, we DO expect more. Beyonce’s new single “Run The World (Girls)” is not as nearly groundbreaking as some of her other singles. They were often a drastic change of direction or a caterwaul away from being mind-numbingly addictive and that grew on you after a few listens. This song? Not so much.

Put It On The Back Burner — Alicia Keys’ and Beyonce’s “Put It In A Love Song” Preview

Written by The IPS in Videos on Mar 10, 11

I rarely post trailers, but this video has become some sort of mythical animal, like a unicorn. Two of the biggest stars in pop/R&B do a duet, shoot a video, and then….nothing?

This video was shot sometime last year and there was all this marketing around it and then it quietly never came out. While fans and stans launched theories worldwide, there was never an official word. Then now, we’ve gotten a trailer about the video, which looks kind of amazing visually.

So do we still care? I don’t like this song period, but now my interest is piqued. I’m sure the budget was the GDP of a small 3rd world country, so on any level, I’m sure it’s going to be epic — epically good or #epicfail. Thoughts?

Some Random Thoughts Of Foolery From The IPS On This Monday…Get Into It!

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Sep 27, 10

Mariah Carey fell in Singapore. Either she is pregnant, or she is realllllly big. I hope she’s pregnant. And even more importantly, WHY IS EVERYONE HOLLERING!? Backgrounds…wow. And Mimi talked the whole time….

      • I hear Keri Hilson and Ciara are getting into it again lowkey about them being compared to each other. Keri, well, Ciara, I’m sorry — Ciara WRITES her songs. You just have perfected the art of making that a** pop. So, no matter what happens, I think you still lose. Cause one day that a** gone drop, pop a blood vessel, and you won’t be able to get it back up again Matrix-style. Keri, even if her voicebox is blown out in a freak studio accident still will be making money from her songwriting! Sat down.
      • Fantasia almost killed herself, got more press, and still, her album has yet to cross the 200K mark yet. I’m going to say that unless she gets pregnant by old dude and get his name tattooed on her forehead for good measure, she won’t be making platinum anytime soon.
      • Faith Evans’ new video is STILL terrible ya’ll. I’m sorry, I tried to watch it again, and them praise dancers just make want to cry. Remember when Faith was chubby and was in a roller skating rink for the “Love Like This Before” video? I’d almost rather have that all over again.
      • This Nelly “Just A Dream” video is really letting me know that Nelly’s time has passed. Where is Murphy Lee and that dude that wore the half-hockey-mask thing? They need to remake “Humpty Dumpty” or some other asinine nursery rhyme so we don’t have to hear Katy Perry anymore. At least it’d be catchier than…wow, who’s the latest hot pop-rapper? Flo-Rida is somewhere ripping up all the “Brandy & Flo-Rida 4 Ever” pictures he scribbled on his “Right Round” royalty statements…
      • Brandy is on “Dancing With The Stars” which I don’t watch, right? Right. All I want Brandy to do is dancerie herself Mary J. Blige style into a studio booth, make up with Rodney Jerkins, call Keith Crouch and Rahsaan Patterson, and make some music. Girl, you went from “America’s Got Talent” to “Dancing With The Stars” and all we got left with is Nick Cannon and Monica belting for her last little bit of vocal life with that Deniece Williams cover. Save us!
      • Lil’ Wayne has a new album coming out this week. It’s called I’m Not A Human Being. YES, WE KNOW. You’re a Martian, an alien, the Pussy Monster, etc. You should have called it I’m Not A Free Man and GAVE it out for free. How is he recording music and releasing it and profiting on it? Isn’t there some law against this? Where is Judge Judy when you need her?
      • Did ya’ll hear about this Rick Ross sex tape? There’s nothing I want to see less on this Earth than Rick Ross porking it up with some poor groupie. Literally. Rickay, please work to get a Ricky MARTIN body before you start flaunting what the good/bad God gave you. I’d rather look directly into the sun…
      • The Diplomats are reuniting. So does that mean hi-speed sampling is going to come back into favor and popularity? And…who are the rest of the Diplomats besides Jim Jones and Cam’ron? Maybe that’s me being a West Coast dude, but if they ain’t helping to clean up the oil spill or brokering peace in the Middle East, I veto this wholeheartedly!
      • Kanye West released another song on G.O.O.D. Friday called “So Appalled”. It’s alright — I think I am just MORE happy to hear a track WITHOUT Charlie Wilson! I mean, is Nate Dogg still not up and moving about? Didn’t Ronald Isley just get out of jail? Is Stevie Wonder on sabbatical from life? Who drug up Charlie Wilson? He only sounds good with Snoop and Justin Timberlake – duh.
      • Are we EVER going to see the video for Alicia Keys’ and Beyonce’s “Put It In A Love Song”? Or did Mashonda hack into Alicia’s email and delete that ish forever? Maybe that is the one good thing Mashonda has done in her life…
      • Chris Brown has a new song called “Yeah”. I think I am just gonna move to Europe anyway since all of OUR R&B artists are stealing the sound. I bet something ELSE is popular in Europe by now…Chris Brown’s comeback is heavily anticipated. I get it, but…not really. All that aside, this song is him angling for another Doublemint commercial. THAT was the beginning of the end!
      • Is anyone REALLY going to BUY these new R. Kelly CD’s?! Inquiring minds and small children of the female persuasion the world over want to know.
      • Tonex’ AKA B. Slade has a really dope song that I like right now, “Going Away”. What I REALLY want is CNN to bring HIM on as a pundit or something in this whole Eddie Long debacle…

That’s all I got right now. Feel free to weigh in, disagree, vent, or whatever. Just some random thoughts for ya!

“If I Were A Boy” Meets Nashville Via Reba McEntire — I Always Thought This Could Go Country!

Written by The IPS in Blogs on May 26, 10

OK, you can’t tell Reba NOTHING with her delay LOL!! All she needed was a Beyoncé’s wind turbine and she would have been ON it, Creole-style.

Reba McEntire, the country legend that she is put a Southern drawl and tone on Beyoncé’s hit “If I Were a Boy” for Country Music Television’s “Unplugged” series. If you are vaguely familiar with Reba, check out my favorite Reba song, “Fancy”. Them country singers SURE can tell a story, I promise.
