    • Chrisette Michele Put On Her “Sunday Best” And Slayed The House

Written by The IPS in Blogs on May 30, 10

BET’s “Sunday Best” this season has been pretty interesting, and they’ve had a special guest open up the show each week — last week was Chrisette Michele. She sung judge Donnie McClurkin’s hit song “Stand” and absolutely laid waste to the audience (in person and at home).

She put her own spin on this classic and did her good singing! I didn’t know what to expect when she came out, but she took that Chrisette Michele tone, and worked out some of those notes in her own way and gave the song new life for a brief moment. I absolutely enjoyed — and it actually was the highlight of that whole episode.

I’m #TeamLeandria all the way, in case you were wondering. Leandria Johnson absolutely NEEDS to win and if she doesn’t it’ll be another disappointment from BET, but I’m kind of used to those at this point. Here’s a bad video of her LAYING WASTE to “In The Midst of It All” by Yolanda Adams.

Jimmy Kimmel & The Citizens Of South Central All Agree On Justin Bieber’s BET Nomination

Written by The IPS in Blogs on May 21, 10

OK, Freshalina posted this up and I JUST about died!

They are echoing what we already said in this post, but man, why he have to go to SOUTH CENTRAL though!?

Between the dude talking about he could be Justin’s daddy and the old cougar lady with phony pony…I cried silent tears!

BET Awards 2010 Nominations Are Out…Who You Got?

Written by The IPS in Blogs on May 18, 10

And…we can’t even keep our network for ourselves (though half of us haven’t claimed BET since “Teen Summit” got kicked off the air, LOL)!

Jay-Z leads the crop with 5 nominations, followed by Queen Creole, Melanie Fiona, Trey Songz and Alicia Keys with 4 nominations. Performances will be by Trey, Nicki Minaj, Drake & Diddy/Dirty Money.

It will be hosted by Queen Latifah and airs live on June 27th from Los Angeles.

Iono, I am just over all these folks. I just like writing the recaps LOL.

But Justin Bieber?! I mean, how does that even fit in? I get it, but, I don’t. Some of these folks on this list don’t even have albums out (though one could argue we don’t live in an album-based society anymore I guess).

I just don’t understand BET sometimes…but the Bieber thing just screams “we need more eyeballs!” And Nicki Minaj gonna perform a medley of other folks’ songs she’s on…or her (basically a flop) single “Massive Attack”? That’s what I’m saying…

Young Money as an “artist” is even stretching it for me…no one cares Gudda Gudda or Mack Maine! LOL, it’s all about Drake, Wayne and Nicki. I can’t.

Congrats to Maxwell, Chrisette Michele, Estelle and others. I wonder if Sade will show up…

After the jump, check out the nominations and leave your thoughts.

Janelle Monae KILLS But At Times Her Vocals Walk A “Tightrope”

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Mar 16, 10

I.love.this.song. I seriously listen to it everyday ya’ll. Janelle Monae’s “Tightrope” has become required morning listening for my morning jigs and wake-up sessions. The track, the music, the horns, the energy, the EVERYTHING is just so on point. BET’s “Rip The Runway” came on last night (March 15th) and while the rest of the show was nothing to write home about, Janelle Monae lit UP the stage with her James Brown-esque moves and charisma. At times, the vocals were a little hit or miss, but seriously, it barely mattered. Home girl was GETTING it like it was the last time she was going to be able to do the Funky Chicken on her Good Foot before her gout kicked in.

      Loved it!

Between Nicki Minaj’s follow-the-dot pace of reading her cue cards, and Pooch Hall’s continuous hollering like he was at a hip-hop concert, mixed with the generally uninteresting fashions, it was pretty dreadful. Dwight from RHOA gave some girl a makeover looking like, well, I don’t know, and Trina flopped her way through “Million Dollar Girl”. I was unimpressed, sans Miss Monae.

Did ya’ll watch “Rip The Runway”? The only thing that got ripped over here was my cable bill LOL!

Coverage: Tiffany Evans Does Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing”

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jan 4, 10

After getting into it with Rihanna last year over “Russian Roulette” and even challenging her to a sing-off of sorts, Tiffany Evans proves that she is the better vocalist (umm, as if there was any question!) with this rendition of Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing”.

There is no question that it takes to chops to even think about singing a Whitney song, but there was never a doubt in my mind that Tiffany could do it. Because I been on this girl since she was little and I even listened to “Promise Ring” all the time because she slayed Ciara on that joint handedly!

This cover was great, thanks reader Marc for sending it in. There are some minute pitch things but she said she just learned it and I am NOT that picky! This young generation…I hope they have more singers like this waiting in the wings.

I hear that BET is about to honor Whitney Houston with the Entertainment Award at the upcoming show in February with performances in tribute by Patti LaBelle, Jennifer Hudson and Mary J. Blige. I’d like to submit Tiffany for a slot too! Seriously!

BET Is Not Ready For Frankie…And Neither is PETA

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jul 6, 09

Photog and blogger FreddyO is always out amongst the nignorant celebs and dilettantes of Atlanta and he caught our favorite, Frankie.

You might want to put on headphones if you are at work. Please watch the clip as Frankie gets her cougar on for a white boy, slaps Freddy O, and even slaps a dog.

      A random dog.

      That wasn’t hers.

I’m not ready for this Frankie & Neffe Show…but thankfully, I don’t have cable anyway ROFL. I love Frankie, but LORD, this is who BET chooses to represent us? I can’t.  Has Frankie ever tried meds!? Her mental state is truly a man down, code 10 situation LOL!

Could you imagine growing up with this woman though!? We point and laugh but Sweet Minty Jesus be a rehab and mental counseling center.

BET Awards ’09 Live Blog & Recap!

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jun 29, 09

Alright, ya’ll know the deal. Tha Feedback is relishing that award show season is starting back up, and first up to bat was the BET Awards ’09. We liveblogged for your pleasure on Twitter and of course for the blog, so it’s about that time.

As the show ran for about 3.5+ hours, you can imagine how long this is after the jump. But trust me, if you missed it, just read this recap and you will be A-ok.

Overall, it was an evening of foolishness and misplaced “tributes”. BET tried their best, but still, it was not very cohesive. Best moments went to Maxwell, Tyrese, the O’Jays and “dancing and shit”, and that’s about it in my book.

      Hit the jump!

God Is The Biggest Boss Rick Ross Has Seen Thus Far, Apparently.

Written by The IPS in Blogs on May 26, 09

Rick Ross went on BET’s “Lift Every Voice”, Sunday morning’s gospel video/interview show and did an interview.

      Yes.

From the cheesy hip-hop production music beds to Rick Ross talking about forgiveness, I just about laughed myself into a hernia. I mean, I’m not knocking him for what he is saying per se, just more so that he’s on BET w/ this well-timed interview since he prolly needs the fans and the fact that he referred to God as “a boss”.

PLEASE ESCORT ME BACK TO MY PEW USHER.

I love BET but who agreed to this?!

What’s next, he’s gonna be on TBN giving Paul & Jan his testimony and performing “”Magnificent” with John Legend playing Hammond B-3 organ and a Gospel choir in white robes?! LOL.

We all are sinners, ok, but if you just living in sin cause you want to be, which I think it’s safe to say Rick Ross ain’t trying to be Head Usher at the Pearly Gates on the daily, then that’s what annoys me. While he is running through them hoes (I can’t even at THAT thought) and selling his “cocaine”, he is praising God and passing the Hennesey? LOL I don’t believe you.

      Video: Brutha – “She’s Gone”

Written by The IPS in Videos on Mar 19, 09

It has been slow in blogdom lately, and I can’t even be mad because I have been hecka busy. Working on this new podcast, which should be up tomorrow!

Anyway, Brutha…their show bored me after the 1st episode. Too much drama, not enough music. And no, their random impromptu sing-out-loud’s did NOT count. Plus I got tired of that “He’s my brother and I love him like myself…” song they STAYED singing.

After the lackluster “I Can’t Hear The Music” I pretty much tuned out until their album came out. They have decent-to-middling harmonies but their album was chock full of mediocre material. Seriously.

This was one of the songs and I’m sorry, it’s too late to save this album. Go back in the studio and please craft some hits. And also, let some of the other dudes maybe sing? LOL. I don’t know. They all kind of sound the same to me.

      Day26 FTW!

Kid CuDi & Kanye’s Hair Do 106 & Park + New “Day ‘N’ Nite” Video

Written by The IPS in Blogs,Videos on Feb 19, 09

LOL this isn’t a cypher when you are spitting verses you have pre-written, right? I thought that was the rule, but maybe it’s just me. Freestyle Friday FAIL.

Kid CuDi seems to fun to hang around in that “boy WTF you talking about TODAY!?” way. I wonder if he hangs out with B.o.B. His debut album is going to be called Man on the Moon: The Guardians. Really? I can’t! Why is everyone aliens and martians and astronauts and hipsters and skinny jean wearing thugs and bootleg Outkast beats mixed with some techno…

I can’t! I can, but at the same time, I can’t! I like CuDi, that rant was necessarily aimed towards him LOL.

Kanye — his hair is so distracting that it was all I could look at until I heard the censors bleep him out. Only Kanye would cuss on a “kid friendly” show so to speak. BET ain’t been kid friendly ever…but you know what I mean. And he just didn’t even give a what either LOL. “Don’t clap so you can hear my words” — that’s why we buy the CD. Otherwise, I’m not hearing them anyway. Your mullet is in the way! But his verse was kinda fuego, too.

Kid CuDi drops the video for the original mix of “Day ‘N’ Nite” as well. Peep it after the jump. I like both videos and both mixes honestly so yeah. What ya’ll think?
