    • “Errybody” Is The Same Height & Loves The “Dougie” On This Remix

Written by The IPS in Videos on Jul 28, 10

I’m only posting this to point out that:

      A) pretty much everyone rapping is the same height
      B) B.o.B. kills this
      C) I hate when there are remixes that feature better rappers than the original creators of the song
      D) Why does Bow Wow even bother to step out the playpen anymore?
      E) Jermaine Dupri could be EVERYONE’S daddy
      F) I still don’t want to, can’t, and shouldn’t do the Dougie. And neither should you. You will look like JD.

      The End.

Bruno Mars Has Many Sides And Is Waiting On “The Other Side” Until We Get It

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jul 17, 10

I like this song, though I wonder how Bruno Mars would sound singing this song on tour night after night cause it’s PRETTY high UP there. Cee-Lo’s voice sounds a bit more comfortable to me, and in the pocket, than Bruno’s. But I do like this song and the lyrics. I could have done without B.o.B., I don’t feel like he adds anything to the song that is worth living for.

The video seems to be more of a mini-documentary. And cheap LOL, considering this song is from his EP It’s Better If You Don’t Understand. Big budgets aren’t coming his way yet, and I think Atlantic is testing the water with his EP to see if people will bite and catch out outside of him being a hook singer. But he’s more than that — he has many sides and you can see that from this video too. He goes through a photoshoot and different looks, interactions, and emotions with his crew, piano, music, and alone. No Cee-Lo, but clearly this is all supposed to be about Bruno.

This “Tightrope” Must Be A Little Wider Now That Lupe And B.o.B. Have Jumped On It

Written by The IPS in Videos on Jul 1, 10

I love Janelle Monae, color-blind as she is! HA.

Lupe Fiasco (I kinda miss that dude) and B.o.B. jump on to freshen up the “Tightrope” remix and even Janelle gets a couple of bars in at the folks who have something to say about her clothes and posing in Vogue magazine. I’m not mad at all, GET EM!

She either looks like she is about to serve some hors d’oeuvres at a Diddy party with Dirty Money OR ride a black & white horse at the racetrack. Either way, she’s cute and I’m digging it. What ya’ll think?

B.o.B.’s Career Takes Flight With “Airplanes”

Written by The IPS in Videos on Jun 16, 10

They’ve been snatching this video down left and right so get it while it’s hot!

Despite the fact that I was snubbed by his team (yeah, I’m salty about that, for real…), here’s the visuals for B.o.B.’s latest single and smash radio hit “Airplanes”, which features Hayley Williams, the lead singer of Paramore.

The video is actually really dope and I love how the focus is primarily on Bobby Ray even though it’s Williams who is really making this such a crossover smash. The spacious feel of the visual (even with the starfield effect, the warehouse, etc.) also lends itself to the feeling of air and airplanes.

Though I’m a bit tired of the song, the video opens up a bit more mental space, and Bobby’s delivery in the video of the lyrics also let me want to listen to it again. The song’s subject matter in and of itself also slightly annoys me, but I’ll just enjoy it a couple more times via video…

Ricco Barino Joins B.o.B. For “Nothing On You” On Wendy Williams

Written by The IPS in Blogs on May 11, 10

Rico Barrino, along with his sister Fantasia, have church voices. Period point blank. Can they sang?! OF COURSE. They sing DOWN. However, putting Ricco’s voice over a HUGELY pop song gives it a totally different character all together. Where Bruno Mars’ voice is light, airy and coasts effortlessly over this joint, Ricco’s voice is jagged, churchy and soulful. His love of church melisma and the timbre of his voice are a weird juxtaposition between the lyrics and the feeling I get when hearing his voice.

B.o.B. is talking about some female and you can’t TELL me Ricco ain’t talking about Jesus HAHAHA. His voice just conveys that.

Ricco sings on a track from B.o.B.’s #1 album so I guess it made sense, but I bet you Teeny is somewhere maid twisting his dreads by hand, cursing the day Tasia won The Idol. LOL!!

Bruno Mars Strikes Up The Band On His Own On “The Other Side”

Written by The IPS in New Music & Reviews on May 6, 10

Bruno Mars – “The Other Side” Feat. Cee-Lo & B.o.B. [Listen & Download]

Bruno Mars is EVERYWHERE lately — with about 2-3 hit songs on the charts right now. To capitalize upon this, he is releasing an EP on May 11th called It’s Better If You Don’t Understand, and this song is taken from that.

Bruno’s voice soars but it’s a shame that Cee-Lo is a featured artist on this joint — why, you ask? Well, because Cee-Lo’s voice soars more effortlessly than Bruno’s. Not that either of them sound bad on this joint, because I really like it (I’m a Cee-Lo stan though). Cee-Lo’s voice comes in smoother and in the pocket to me. B.o.B.’s verse could have been left off for my money.

What do you think of Bruno Mars’ first crack at going solo-dolo? I think it’s a good little ditty, and perfect for Cee-Lo (wondering if he had a hand in it?).

I Am Willing To Wager That B.o.B.’s 1st Week Sales Won’t Be A “Bust”

Written by The IPS in Videos on Apr 27, 10

B.o.B. premiered the new video from his debut album The Adventures of Bobby Ray (which is in stores today) on his official website just minutes ago. “Bet I” features T.I. and Playboy Tre. The video is a colorful anti-yet-not-anti hip-hop video.

There’s a LOT of colors and cartoon-like effects, which is interesting to me because this one of, if not the most, “hip-hop” songs on his album. He totally takes the edge off of it with the multi-colored effects, cartoons, and even dancing with the girls doing choreography. T.I. is a bit less animated, as well as Playboy Tre, but B.o.B. is different as he likes to point out in his songs, so we shouldn’t be surprised.

Industry prognosticators are guessing that B.o.B. will hit #1 or at least REALLY close to the top, especially with the Eminem-assisted “Airplanes Pt. 2″ featuring Hayley Williams from Paramore. B.o.B. is walking a tightrope between hip-hop and pop/crossover act in my opinion — a review will be up soon!

      Thoughts?

B.o.B. And “Nothing On You” Take Over Ellen

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Apr 21, 10

I know this is a different crowd, but Bobby Ray’s demeanor in the beginning was EXTRA Caucasian-y. LOL, did you see it?! Rewind it again. Like, he was making a joke about it being all those yt ppl there. I see you!

Bruno Mars, I bet that dude is probably tired of singing this song and that top note every chorus. I think he is. Listen LOL.

B.o.B.’s album is out next week on Tuesday. Catch it.

B.o.B.’s “Nothing On You” Visuals Are Great!

Written by The IPS in Videos on Mar 9, 10

Man I LOVE this song. It’s just like, a new-age LL Cool J pop/hip-hop/crossover smash. This joint is poignant, respectful and really decent. The video reflects the same qualities, and B.o.B. AKA Bobby Ray takes his rhymes and brings an honesty to the track that Bruno Mars’ voice just makes even that much more sincere. It’s an organic jam that just really sticks with you after you hear it a time or two.

The video, directed by Ethan Lader, bucks the trend of a hip-hop video even and is more of a stylized pop feel. The torn-paper theme, along with the interchanging faces is a really dope idea. We aren’t super green-screened to death either.

I basically really love this song, and the video keeps that trend going. Excellent. “Thumbs up, Ebert and Roper” like Drake say. As a matter of fact, I’m feeling B.o.B. way more than Drake, but that’s just me.

      What ya’ll think?

B.o.B. Weaves A Story (NOT) About Love

Written by The IPS in Videos on Mar 2, 10

Dude tells stories, like them old 90′s hip-hop songs and I love it. B.o.B. has me excited about another hip-hop project! “Not Love” was unleashed to the Net recently and it’s a story about Chuck and Kenny and how lives often intersect, even on different sides of the track. It’s a short <3 minute clip so check it out. And if you haven’t gotten B.o.B.’s latest mixtape you should!

The Adventures of Bobby Ray is due out April 27th, 2010. I’m going to be checking for that!
