    • Classic Flashback: Vertical Hold – “Seems You’re Much Too Busy”

Written by The IPS in Blogs,Videos on Mar 30, 10

Angie Stone was in a number of groups in the 90′s before she really broke out as a solo star (and as D’Angelo’s baby mama). Vertical Hold was one of the many groups she affiliated with, and they had a hit with “Seems You’re Much Too Busy” around 1993.

Is it just me or do they not give Angie B. (as she was known as sometimes) ANY body shots? LOL, shoulders UP. Scandalous! Pulling a Martha Wash on our girl!

Thanks @sunrae85 for the suggestion ma!

Live Performance: Angie Stone Does “I Ain’t Hearin’ U”, But Are U Listening?

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Dec 21, 09

Angie Stone tried her hardest to get folks crunk with this performance, but in the end she was saved by Mo’Nique’s use of the Electric Slide. How dreadful. LOL!

Angie Stone is a favorite of mine and I root for her constantly, but she’s made some interesting fashion choices this album cycle and this outfit is no different. As far as the music, BET’s jank sound mixed with the lack of “oomph” this song has and this performance was just so bland. Even her voice was a little iffy sounding at times, and I haven’t seen many performances on the promo trail of this album live.

It’s like, I want to shake her and be like “COME ON GET IT TOGETHER!” It’s not a bad song, but Angie usually delivers stronger, more impactful material. “I Ain’t Hearin’ U” is a nice little ditty, but it comes across as stale live. On the record, the track is the only thing that saves the song as well — take that out of the mix in the live setting and you are left with something you may or may not change the channel on.

Angie Stone’s New Video For “I Ain’t Hearin’ You” Fails To Make Us Listen

Written by The IPS in Videos on Nov 17, 09

Angie Stone is really trying to push this new look and image on us, but I won’t be bowled over easily due to the sheer missteps of this video!

I love Angie, and I have to say that this song grew on me after a couple of spins. The beat is infectious! It’s that good ole’ song you’d play at a family reunion while someone grills and whatnot. But this video is an affront to body shapers and lace fronts everywhere.

I applaud Angie for trying to do it up, but homegirl looks uncomfortable. The treatment is decent though, and actress Terri J. Vaughan makes a cameo as the “girl in the club”. Everything is kind of tragic though, from the extras to Angie vivid hand dances to the clothes she has on to the lacefront.

It makes you wonder what happened to that soul sista Angie Stone that churned out joints like “Brotha” and “I Wish I Didn’t Miss You”. Wasn’t she rocking the afro/natural joint?

I am interested to see how her fans respond to this video…I’ve seen some tweet already but I’m not going to go there…

Angie’s new album comes out on the 24th and her new album is streaming today on her Myspace. I’ll be checking that out for free first, how about you? LOL.

Jamie Foxx – “Speak French” (Feat. Gucci Mane) [Listen + Download]

Jamie Foxx has a new song with Gucci Mane…I hate to admit it but this song GO. LOL. Be aware though, it’s a bit much. But when has Jamie NOT been a bit much. #Burrr. Bangladesh supposedly produced this joint…nice. It feels like some Joi something though. Shouts to UHTN!

Angie Stone has some new promo pics ya’ll — please be nice. I love Angie, I really do, but that corset shot…wow…please let the chesticles breathe! That looks painful ROFL. The folks on Twitter went in though…her new album Unexpected comes out on November 24th.

Georgia Anne Muldrow – “Run Away” [Free Download Here!]

Georgia Anne Muldrow is an indie artist/songwriter/producer out of L.A. who’s worked with a lot of underground soul cats and collectives; Sa-Ra, Bilal and others have collaborated with her and/or gave her props. She’s releasing her 3rd album Early on November 10th, and the song is an laid back funky affair with plaintive vocals from Georgia. The video is animated — I felt like I was watching The Fat Albert Kids or something LOL.  Share your thoughts!

      Album Covers: Angie Stone’s “Unexpected”

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Oct 20, 09

Angie Stone’s latest record Unexpected is out November 24th and is preceded by the previously posted single “I Ain’t Hearin’ U”.

LOL this cover is a mess to me though…I don’t know. I know she’s doing new things and what not…and she looks great…but I have a feeling there were better shots that they could’ve used.

The metallic looking dress is just not flattering! It’s “unexpected” indeed, this cover and her looking like that in that dress. Meh! I love Angie though.

“I Ain’t Hearin’ U” has grown on me though — I’m still just upset that there isn’t MORE to the song. The track/instrumental is hot though. Bet.

      New Music: Angie Stone – “I Ain’t Hearin’ U”

Written by The IPS in New Music & Reviews on Oct 15, 09

      Angie Stone – “I Ain’t Hearin’ U” [Download]

One of my favorite soul singers, Angie Stone, is back!

She’s coming out uptempo straight out of the gate with the cut “I Ain’t Hearin’ U”, a breezy musically-lighthearted joint anchored by an old 70′s bounce and some gentle harmonies courtesy of Angie.

The track itself is what gives this song life, but musically song-wise, I would have liked some variation — a key change, a sonically different bridge, something. It gets a little repetitive and is a bit too straight-forward for my tastes, especially coming Angie.

That being said, her new album Unexpected is dropping November 24th. Let’s hope it’s a return to musical form for Angie, because while her last record In Love & War was slightly enjoyable, overall it wasn’t cohesive enough for multiple spins — except the excellent duet with Chyno, “Half A Chance”. This album was concocted during the pain of her father unexpectedly passing, hence the title.

      Thoughts?
