    • Did YOUR American Idol Winner Curse The Lakers With His Rendition “The Star Spangled Banner”?

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jun 8, 10

Cause he DANG sure isn’t MINE. LOL, I mean, Lee Dewyze was the winner. Good for him. But if this is the best America has to offer, then I don’t blame Simon Cowell for jumping ship.

Was he nervous? Probably. But at the same time, dude has been singing in front of millions on TV for the past like, 50-11 weeks. This was just kinda terrible, pitchy, and uncomfortable to watch. I stopped watching Idol weeks and weeks ago and only watched to see Janet Jackson MURDER EVERYBODY with her performance (and reignite my love for her all over again…that chick bad!). So, when you are tuning into a current talent show to see OLD stars, something is clearly wrong.

Ooh, man, I hope he didn’t curse the Lakers…HA! The National Anthem is never easy but it ain’t that hard either. Wamp.

American Idol has jumped the shark, sliced it up into shark salad, added mayo, and is now being served up in overcrowded school cafeterias all over the US. Please let it die. It’s over. ELLEN IS A JUDGE. I CAN’T. /endrant

“Nothing” Janet Does Will Ever Make Me Forget She’s “Nasty”!

Written by The IPS in Blogs on May 27, 10

OH THE THOUGHTS THAT WENT THROUGH MY MIND DURING JANET JACKSON’S SUPRISE “AMERICAN IDOL” FINALE PERFORMANCE LAST NIGHT…

At first they were “I hope she quits singing this depressing song and DANCES!” because I can’t stand that “Nothing” song. Then my mind went to “Umm…ummm…ummm…*wipes drool*”.

Janet looked GREAT. I just flashed back to middle school and Janet posters and be scared to listen to The Velvet Rope outloud LOL. Janet murked, slayed, killed, and chopped up A LOT of folks right now. 44 years old.

She is rocking that short hair (sans product tips from Jermaine), the body is KNOCKING, and the voice is still there. Sure she lipsynched during “Nasty” but that’s expected with choreography (the dancers were great too BTW).

My only qualm was that I felt that her performance lacked FIRE. It was good, but I feel like she was taking it nice and easy. We, or maybe just me, want it fast, rough, and “nasty!” There were a bunch of other performances, but…I don’t care LOL.

Overall, they need to just CANCEL American Idol. It was Simon’s last episode, the finalists kinda suck, and it’s just not interesting anymore. 10 seasons is a nice run. C’est la vie!

Fantasia’s Return To Idol Is “Bittersweet”

Written by The IPS in Blogs on May 13, 10

Why is it bittersweet you ask? Well because the last Black person has been kicked off! LOL. But I digress.

I haven’t watched Idol in weeks. I stopped caring. However, my girl Fantasia (or as Simon Cowell says, “Fantasier”) hit the stage to perform her new single “Bittersweet”, which is indeed a bit catchy and I’m sure sounds great on record. There were a couple of high points vocally during the performance, but I felt like the huge Idol stage swallowed up Fantasia and music has long moved past its Black Idols. I felt like the crowd didn’t “get” it, which has always been the problem with Black folks and Idol. American Idol has made great pop stars, but I feel like those who swing toward the R&B side don’t get as much love.

NO slight to Fantasia though. “Bittersweet” sounds catchy and I feel like she might have something on her hands if for some reason it doesn’t get messed up in promotion or drama. No Teeny on the BGV’s though!? LOL, two Barrino children on stage on TV in one week? This can’t be life!

What ya’ll think of “Bittersweet”? Fantasia looks good, but I’m not to crazy about these bowl-cut wigs her and Mary J. Blige are rocking…LOL.

Thanks Idol, For Giving Us Back These “Unthinkable” Performances!

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Apr 23, 10

Cause I would have never thought that the show could be so BORING this season!

Alicia Keys made an appearance on the yearly “Idol Gives Back” show, which reportedly raised $45 million this year. She did “Unthinkable”, which is the best and only song I listen to on her last album. She also did “Empire State of Mind Pt. 2″. The first song in the beginning was a bit unBEARable, but she cleaned it up as time passed. “Empire” was decent as well, until that last note.

I know some of them Idol contestants were thinking “Really? If that was us, America would send us home!” We know ya’ll, we know…

Hit the jump for performances from Mary J. Blige & Joss Stone!

This Season of AI Should Be Called “America’s Dreadful”+ Rihanna & Jason DeRulo

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Apr 8, 10

OK, I have a confession — I have been listening to Jason DeRulo’s “In My Head” a lot lately. I’m sorry! It’s catchy, and I feel good about myself because “in my head”, I sing it a lot better than he does. Sue me.

However, this performance was…something. I WILL give him points for singing it all LIVE. He danced, sung, moonwalked, j-sett, pop-locked and vogued for them cameras and hit all his (choreography) marks. The vocals were hit and mess, but, he’s a new artist and 8/10 he was onit. Good enough for me!

He could have kept them jackets, them falsetto notes, and that black & white slo-mo camera. No ma’am, no sir!

      Now about Rihanna…

Paula Abdul May Be Bringing Back Star Search?!

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Mar 16, 10

Paula Abdul may be getting off of unemployment soon!

Paula Abdul is reportedly in talks to be be the host of a Star Search revival, according to People. I remember when Arsenio Hall did that reboot a couple of years ago — I had a friend who tried out on there LOL.

Of course the original with Ed McMahon was the launching pad of many of today’s stars, like a young Beyonce’ as a part of Gyrls Tyme. Oh, memories.

Abdul, 47, is finalizing a deal to help ABC launch a new version of Star Search, the classic TV talent contest from the ’80s, according to Entertainment Weekly. The network isn’t commenting, but Abdul would reportedly juggle a combination of hosting and judging duties for the show, which could debut this summer.

The original Star Search, hosted by Ed McMahon, ran in syndication from 1983 until 1995 and featured comedy, modeling and dancing as well as singing. It featured performances by many future stars, including Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears in the early ’90s. A revival on CBS in 2003, hosted by Arsenio Hall, fizzled after just two seasons, though a young David Archuleta was the junior vocal champion in 2003.

I think this might be interesting, mostly because it’ll be competition to American Idol. However, what about Simon Cowell’s leaving AI for his Americanized import of his hit UK show The X-Factor next season?

And do we REALLY need all these talent shows in the first place? Between these shows and reality shows, I’m burnt out on regla nikkas trying to be famous, or famous people trying to STAY famous. Give me a good sitcom anyday.

Adam Lambert Takes Us On With “Whataya Want From Me”

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jan 25, 10

Adam Lambert, the winner-but-non-winner of last seasons’ American Idol has been stirring up the controversy and whatnot, but at the end of the day, dude has a crazy range. Seriously. Say what you want, but the vocals on this song are crazy.

This song was originally recorded for Pink’s last album Funhouse but didn’t make the final cut. It was co-written by her and one of my favorite producers, Max Martin, among others. You can definitely hear the Pink influence and if you close your eyes, you can almost imagine her voice as well.

The song/video deals with the pressures of being in a role in a relationship or in life in which someone/something is always pulling on you or requesting from you, etc. That’s how I interpret it. If you don’t like Adam Lambert for whatever reason, that’s fine. But this song right here immediately registered with me due to the song itself and Adam’s soaring vocals and ad-libs. Is it perfect? No. But it’s as close as Adam got on his debut album For Your Entertainment. Also check out his song “Sleepwalker”. Another favorite from his album!

Mary J. Blige to Guest Judge “American Idol”

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Aug 14, 09

MJB the Queen is taking a turn in Paula Abdul’s now-vacant chair as they continue to tape the shows around the country. She’ll be sitting in during the Atlanta run, after Posh Spice, Victoria Beckham, leaves.

Again I say — how they have all these non-singers judging this show? Mary is a step up though, because she’s MARY, but still LOL. You know Mary has good days and bad days. J/K!! I love Mary!

Blige will meet up with Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi in Atlanta for auditions. On Friday, the show is wrapping up auditions in Boston, where Victoria Beckham has been filling Paula Abdul’s spot. “The judges and production team have been having a lot of fun with Victoria,” a show source says. “She’s had a great response so far, and has been really warm with the contestants.” (Source)

I hope Mary straight up goes church and gives out that “Church Mother Front Row Missionary” side-eye! OMG, I would seriously tune in just for that. I hate that I still love American Idol after ALL these years…save me.

Queen Latifah to “Rule” on Idol?

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Aug 10, 09

      Queen Latifah on SNL

Queen Latifah may be going to Idol — or apparently she’s on a wishlist, along with people like Katy Perry and Jennifer Lopez.

I don’t know about ya’ll, but I WOULD LOVE another black person on Idol. I could see her and Randy making fake” sexual overtones at each other now like Paula and Simon did. Cleo FTW!

Queen Latifah’s name has been thrown in the mix as a possible guest judge for “American Idol” following the departure of Paula Abdul, reports Radar Online.

A source close to the show said the Oscar-nominated actress is definitely on the wish list, while Victoria “Posh Spice” Beckham and Katy “I Kissed A Girl”

Perry have already been confirmed. There are also rumors that Jennifer Lopez is being courted as a permanent replacement for Abdul. (Source)

That would be perfect promo for her new album, whenever it finally drops. Lord knows that “Cue the Rain” single hasn’t really gained any traction…

What’s with all the non-singers (kind of) being judges in a singing competition? If Posh Spice told me I couldn’t sing, I’d go to commercial break and woop that tail! For real? LOL!

What Do We Think About: Brandon Rogers’ “Joy”

Written by The IPS in Blogs,New Music & Reviews,Videos on Jul 29, 09

You may not remember Brandon Rogers, but I do since I watched Idol avidly back then. He was on American Idol, season 6 with Jordin Sparks. He had that big curly hair fro thing but I do remember him being a pretty decent singer.

Since then, he’s gone on to host Idol Tonight on the TV Guide Network and has released a debut album as well. This song comes from that album, called Automatic, which is available now.

Having shaved his curly locks, he still looks good LOL. Not everyone can rock the baldy. This song, while a bit downtempo, has a nice pocket to it, and the video is a pretty classy straightforward affair. He gets his two-step on, and I almost feel like this video could be a commercial for something.

The song itself, while wordy at times, is an overall quality affair. Enough to make me want to check out his album.

What do you all think? Feedback!
