    • Album Cover + New Musiq from Musiq — “Alphabet” And MUSIQINTHEMAGIQ Art

Written by The IPS in Blogs,New Music & Reviews on Mar 16, 11

      Musiq Soulchild – “Alphabet”

So now we have an official album cover AND a new single for Musiq’s upcoming album MUSIQINTHEMAGIQ, which is due to hit stores May 3rd.

In terms of this spelling gimmick, I’m tired of it. In terms of this song, it’s really not even that good sadly. It sounds rushed, Musiq’s voice doesn’t feel at home with this track, and while the idea behind the lyrics is admirable, it doesn’t feel natural. I feel like Musiq is getting backed into this uptempo corner by SOMEBODY and he doesn’t sound good in it at all. Musiq’s voice feels awkward for the majority of this track.

I guess my issue isn’t with his voice, but once again, it’s a travesty when bad material happens to good artists. It’s getting harder and harder to form an opinion about albums based on the singles these days though, so I will reserve my comments until we get a chance to hear the whole album.

Are you a Musiq fan that is feeling all these new songs? Or are you scratching your head as well?

Album Covers: Jennifer Hudson Looks Brand New While She Is Remembering The Past

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Feb 8, 11

Jennifer Hudson is not playing a game with her photoshoots now that she lost all that weight! Her latest album I Remember Me is dropping in the US March 22nd, and the singles that she has put out haven’t really moved me. But she looks GREAT. Whoever edited and touched up this photo put in some serious work.

      J. Hud is my girl and I’m glad to see her still being successful. Let’s hope the new music is all that we are hoping it will be…her voice is a powerhouse and should be around for a long while.

I really do hate those Weight Watchers commercials though…

Album Covers: Jamie Foxx & Keyshia Cole’s Upcoming Releases

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Nov 26, 10

Jamie Foxx’s new album Best Night Of My Life drops on December 21st, and we pretty much don’t care. Because “Winner” with T.I. & Justin Timberlake came and went faster than T.I. last stint as a free man, and I couldn’t tell you another single off of this joint if you paid me. Wait, wasn’t there something with Drake? Oh, well, see, if you can’t even remember the “Drake” single, then you KNOW you need to pull a “Kelly Rowland” and go back into the studio and try AGAIN.

And what makes me mad about Jamie is that that negro can SING but he choose the most asinine, crossover aimed singles EVER. You tried it.

ALSO dropping December 21st is Keyshia Cole’s latest musical opus, Calling All Hearts. I hope she is calling all hearts to the altar and repenting for whoever is buying any of them two singles she is foisting upon us. Why does she look like she was playing in one of Neffie’s kids’ Kool-Aid jars? Them lips, that heart, this title, that voice, these singles, that pitch….I just all around can’t!

I feel like both of these albums are getting rushed out to capitalize upon the holiday season…but I’m sorry, either of these would be a lump of COAL in my stocking!

Album Covers: Kanye West & Nicki Minaj Both Get “Surreal” While Nelly Gets More Irrelevant

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Oct 18, 10

Kanye’s released the cover for his latest musical opus My Beautiful Twisted Dark Fantasy, which is due out November 22nd.

      Kanye. Boy, you so artsy!

LOL I got to say, this is kind cool, but at the same time, very disturbing. What would Dr. Phil say?

He claims it was banned but you know what, let’s not act like Kanye can’t do whatever he wants. Have you seen his music videos for this cycle? Right…

Nicki Minaj looks like that Lil’ Kim “doll” from the “How Many Licks” video that were had being made in that factory scene. You know what I’m talking about, right!? Check the video. Is it just me? OK. Right. I know Nicki Mirageoftalent is growing on ya’ll. But I guess. LOL. Pink Friday also hits stores on November 22nd.

Nelly’s latest album 5.0 drops on November 16th, and no one cares. About him, his songs that all sound like Flo-Rida rejects so far, and the fact that he ain’t even shirtless. The ladies only pay attention to him because of the that, and the dudes…well I don’t think we ever paid attention to Nelly before or after the “Tip Drill” video. Soooo…who’s buying this?

Album Covers: Marsha Ambrosius Looks Great On “Late Nights & Early Mornings” Art

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Sep 30, 10

Marsha Ambrosius looks great, if not airbrushed to death, on her cover for her upcoming solo album Late Nights & Early Mornings. The album is due out November 9th, and of course it’ll features her single “I Hope She Cheats On You (With A Basketball Player)”, which for the most part, I don’t think a lot of folks are feeling too tough. She did drop a remix though with Fabolous & Maino…but that doesn’t make me care anymore in particular either.

Album Covers: Jazmine Sullivan Is So Easy To “Love”

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Sep 21, 10

Jazmine Sullivan stays rocking her legging thingies, but that’s OK. She looks fantastic LOL. Her new album Love Me Back is out November 2nd, and I couldn’t be happier. The list of producers rumored to be working on the album didn’t really move that much, outside of Missy and Cainon Lamb, but I hope it is going to be great. In any case, I know at the end of the day that Jazmine will sound fantastic regardless, right? Right.

At least this time, they gave her the full body shot on the cover. Last time it was just her face. They put her in the all black though — classic move. I ain’t mad, I think Jazmine is fine either way! She looks a little Amerie-ish to me…

Album Art Round-Up: Keri Hilson, Ne-Yo & Nicki Minaj

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Sep 3, 10

Keri Hilson’s latest single and new from her soon-to-come sophomore album is called “Breaking Point”. The cover however features her channeling a lil’ Creole we all know. It just feels like that whole stripped down, black & white simple asthetic that Beyonce’ was trying to channel previously. However, not comparing Keri just because. Her new album No Boys Allowed has no release date yet, but the single officially drops September 7th. Listen to it here — the single itself is a bit of doo-wop meets two-step as Keri riffs about love and stress.

Urban Bridgez has the exclusive on Ne-Yo’s album cover for his new opus Libra Scale. Look, I know Ne-Yo is talented and this album has a long drawn out backstory that will all supposedly make sense when it drops, but come. You ain’t Michael Jackson. This ain’t Moonwalker. Boy stop! LOL. Him and Janelle Monae must shop at the same Men’s Warehouse. Album hits stores October 19th, as of right now. It’s been pushed back a bunch…

Rap-Up has the first look at will.i.am & Nicki Minaj’s first collabo single, “Check It Out”. I don’t like the song or the album art, but alrighty. The Buggles sample of “Video Killed The Radio Star” grates on my nerves after the first few seconds. Pink Friday comes out Black Friday. I’m sure it will be a “Monster”. Everyone is so ga-ga over Nicki’s verse on this new Kanye joint — what ya’ll think of that?

Album Art: Kanye’s Headless & Dondria’s Got Snacks

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jul 1, 10

I have NOT stopped listening to “Power” since it leaked and it has now been made an official single from his soon to come but not soon enough album Good Ass Job. I just got into a debate with some folks about how he is telling people to jump out a window…right.

Too bad his BET Awards performance was SO lackluster. Like, I get the simplicity of what he was trying to but ‘Ye, that was not NEARLY as boombastic as you thought it probably was.

I’ve been playing “You’re The One” for a while, and I LIKE the song itself, but Dondria has a little bit of ways to go until she can really get established and show her vocal chops. Girl CAN sing though — she just needs to identify her strengths and not try to fit too much into a mold while limiting her chance for crossover success. PLEASE don’t let Jermaine Dupri turn her into the 2010 Monica. I just can’t.

Her live performances are still a bit rough though — she does her GOOD church talent show singing! HAHAHA. Her album Dondria Vs. Phatfffat drops August 17th. I am cracking up at these snacks and food around the MacBook. That’s a NO! Derek Blanks shot this for her.

Album Covers: Fantasia’s “Back To Me” + Tracklist

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jun 16, 10

Now that’s she conquered high school (CONGRATS TASIA!), Broadway, TV, Lifetime movies, reality TV and more, Fantasia is FINALLY getting back to the music. Sadly, we still have no clips or leaked versions of “Move on Me”, but we do have the tracklist for her latest album Back to Me, which is slated to drop July 27th. I like the colors, but that wig…I JUST KNOW someone in her camp wants to tell her the truth but they KNOW she WON’T listen, so they don’t. HA!

First single “Bittersweet” is climbing steadily up the charts, luckily for her. “Bittersweet” had to grow on me a bit, but I love Fantasia, and it’s a bit of a slow burn song. The rest of the album features production from Ne-Yo, Chuck Harmony, the ever-working Rico Love and even Jim Jonsin. I gotta tell ya’ll, I listen to Fantasia’s last album like it was CHURCH all the time, so I am excited about this.

In case you missed it, Fantasia’s performance of “Bittersweet” on last season’s Idol and the tracklist after the jump!

Album Covers: The King Meets “The Wiz” On T.I.’s “King Uncaged” Album Cover

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Jun 14, 10

      *insert Beyonce’ weave joke here*

T.I. is going all out for this King Uncaged album, which hits August 17th. It’s probably Photoshopped in, but I wonder…

This is a bold statement though. I kind of like it! For some reason though, it did remind me of “The Wiz” LOL.
