    • Vivian Green Is Back And Looking “Beautiful”

Written by The IPS in Videos on Mar 17, 10

Vivian Green has returned with a new single, revamped look and stripped down sound for her third album entitled Beautiful. While that may describe the album and/or her life, it doesn’t detract from the fact that is single is mediocre, slightly monotonous and at best good for grabbing a few heart strings you may have laying around.

Not to say that Vivian isn’t talented, because she is. There were moments that she shined in the pants on her previous works, but this time it’s her on an independent label. Her material needs to be MUCH more convincing than it currently is when the album drops April 6.

“Beautiful” is a sleepy ballad with keys being the primary driver of this composition. I’d almost rather hear this in the MIDDLE of a set down as opposed to towards the end. Why? Because it just has an anti-climactic effect upon you once you sit and listen to it. What do you all think?

London Premieres With “Back To The Way”

Written by The IPS in Videos on Mar 15, 10

New artist London hits the scene with his “Back To The Way” joint, and it’s one of those cases where the video makes me like the song a bit more. I’d heard “Back To The Way” a while ago, but I didn’t truly appreciate his vocals until now. He has a SOLID vocal, despite the effects and processing going on on this song.

His vocals remind me of J. Holiday — because you know what, J. Holiday can sing. He really can. So what the problem was with his material mostly — it just didn’t connect with enough people OFTEN enough. Let’s hope London doesn’t have that same problem. His new album Man Of My Word should be out soon, and the song is available on iTunes. You can also hit him on Twitter and let him know what you think of his song.

Lloyd Banks Chooses From His “Beamer, Benz or Bentley” While I’m In My Hoopty…

Written by The IPS in Videos on Mar 15, 10

Lloyd Banks’ song “Beamer, Benz or Bentley” has the street going buzzing, and now there is a proper visual for his random hit song. He is working on a putting out a new solo album around June apparently, and this buzz single grew from an underground hit to actually creating a buzz for Banks. It features Julez Santana. It’s been getting the “hip-hop do-over” treatment as everyone has been laying down freestyles over the beat.

The video is pretty standard, cars, hoes, etc. The song does go kind of hard, though I’m lost as to why Lloyd Banks seems unable to show emotion on his face. He looks like Flo-Rida’s less buff and unhappy cousin. Is it just me? LOL, I’ve always wondered why he always has that scowl.

Joell Ortiz and Jim Jones just released a video of their version of this song called “Nissan, Honda, Chevy”. ROFL NOW THAT I can understand. Lloyd Banks know those are 50’s cars *seod*

“What I Be On” Is Totally Different From Devin The Dude, But This Is Hilarious!

Written by The IPS in Videos on Mar 15, 10

      “All dready!”

Yo, I’ve only ever really paid attention to Devin The Dude on a couple of occasions — mostly because I live a drug free life and usually all really talks about is, well, getting high LOL. And this song ain’t no different, but this video is hilarious! The song is catchy too, I’m loving that beat. “I stay on my P’s and Q’s / my weed and brews.”

May not be safe for work depending on where you are, like, if you read Tha Feedback at the DEA office, I’d say save this post until you get home.

If you get high, do you! I don’t. I get high off of life and homework (cause I’m in finals this week ya’ll, so be patient with me!). If you’re a fan, Devin The Dude’s new album Do Not DistHerb (Suite # 420) comes out tomorrow, and you can cop it on iTunes. It’s an EP. If this video made you a fan, check it!

Trina’s A “Million Dollar Girl” With The Help of Diddy & Keri

Written by The IPS in Videos on Mar 15, 10

Meh, I promise you I hadn’t heard this song until just now. Has this been out for a minute? Is radio playing this? It’s overly sugary for a hip-hop song, and Diddy’s even less believable than Trina on his verses (where is Trick Daddy or SOMEONE!?). Keri Hilson isn’t working hard at all either, but I still feel like she slightly overpowers this track.

I love how Trina is still rapping about the same things 5-10 years later. Hasn’t she been through hard times? Grown as an individual? LOL, cause pink Porsches and that costume jewelry…she needs more people. I think what was overly distracting were her and Keri’s hair choices. Now, Keri’s hair always looks like that, but Trina with that baby hair and them lacefront hairlines…

We gots to do better, hair-wise and lyrics-wise. Trina does look great though and I’m glad she’s kept her look together. But as far as rapping…she’s going to have to come a lot harder. This song feels dated, flat and seems like it doesn’t/won’t have much longevity…

Classic Flashback: Black Men United – “You Will Know”

Written by The IPS in Blogs, Videos on Mar 15, 10

ROFL don’t ask me where this came from, but I promise you, I was walking around my house randomly singing this song and I was like, “Oh snap, Black Men United!”

This was taken from the Jason’s Lyric soundtrack and was written by D’Angelo if memory serves me correctly. According to the video, there were over 42 men that song on this track, including a deceased Gerald LeVert, Intro, H-Town and such stars at Lenny Kravitz on guitar, Tevin Campbell, Boyz II Men, the list goes on. It came out in 1994.

I gotta say, not that I’m suggesting they remake this song (God NO!) but if they did, I’m sure the vocals could be a bit better and the song could go a lot further. This song definitely didn’t have the power and “oomph” that “We Are The World” (the original!) or “Self Destruction” had. It was still a great thing though. Remember when “Black on Black” crime was all we had to worry about?

Steph Jones Says “La La Means Love”, Do You Agree With His Translation?

Written by The IPS in Videos on Mar 12, 10

I had some conversations with Steph Jones about this song a while ago. I remembered at the time that this song was recorded primarily at the label’s behest and he didn’t really like how it fit in with his vision for his music. I told him, yeah, that’s all well and good, but I loved this song anyway LOL. And also if I remember correctly, it’s not exactly what you think it’s about…

“La La Means Love” was the accidental video that a young hungry director did on spec for Steph and just unleashed from his vaults recently for Mr. Ordinary. It was filmed concurrently (and surprisingly) at the time Steph was shooting two other videos. He didn’t know it was being shot however for a final product.

The song “La La Means Love” was on a DTP sampler that was floating around when Steph was still signed to Ludacris’ label. You can now get it as an addition to his Gravity mixtape at his site here.

Classic Flashback: Quincy Jones – “Tomorrow (A Better You, Better Me)” Feat. Tevin Campbell

Written by The IPS in Blogs, Videos on Mar 12, 10

This song, “Tomorrow (A Better You, Better Me)” is taken from the quintessential American producer and everything else Quincy Jones’ 1989 album Back on the Block, which featured a cast of luminaries too long to list. And when I say luminaries I mean luminaries!!

Well, a very young Tevin Campbell was tapped to sing this song that Quincy produced and arranged w/ lyrics by Siedah Garrett, and sing did he ever! Tevin’s voice was CRAZY for him to be song young, seriously. It makes me sad that voices like his are no longer heard and we are left with bleating goats and flat-voiced piano playing females. *sigh*

What’s making even more sad is that Quincy is putting out another album. Only this time, there are no luminaries, really *Sad Chris Brown play my records please face*. It’s called Q: Soul Bossa Nostra and will feature such stars as Akon, 3 6 Mafia, T-Pain and even Wyclef with that Haitian yodel. Have mercy. This will either be really good or REALLY unpalatable.

Hit the jump for the press release that marks the end of the world as we know it LOL.

Lady GaGa & Beyonce’ Don’t Believe In Call Waiting; “Telephone” Video Is Here!

Written by The IPS in Videos on Mar 12, 10

Wow, I had to watch this video to take it all in! It’s epic in imagination and execution, but not really in its elements and creativity. Go with me.

First of all, this video is VERY Tarantino-esque. I mean, HELLO, the “Pussy Wagon” from “Kill Bill” is up in the place to be! I was just expecting Solange to get a cameo wearing an eye-patch with Baby Daniel strapped to her back high-kicking Lady GaGa’s mayo bottle out of her hand. LOL. Or…Vivica Fox.

That being said, Lady GaGa is EPIC and has fully embraced the powers of the Illuminati. Ole girl is naked, kissing womens, WEARING GLASSES THAT ARE MADE OF SMOKING CIGARETTES, I mean, the list goes ON and ON. What DIDN’T she cram into this 9.5 minute video?

Beyonce‘ plays her character, but yet and still, home girl is about as exciting as the yellow paint on the Pussy Wagon. Where GaGa is just naturally a huge presence, Beyonce’s duet and performance comes off as 2nd rate to GaGa’s. Sure, she’s not the star, but in something of this epic of a proportion, you need to carry your weight. I don’t feel Beyonce’ does that.

Tyrese makes a cameo as one of the many people murdered, and GaGa goes from riding and wearing a church hat to making sandwiches to getting pleasured by a Virgin Mobile phone.

We walk away from this video knowing that A) GaGa does NOT have a penis (thanks for clearing that up!), B) Beyonce’ really is just not a good “actress”, C) The Pussy Wagon is awesome, D) All the “kids” will be searching for those glasses, E) GaGa is sponsored by the Illuminati, F) This song goes harder to me now that I’ve seen the video, G) Beyonce’ choreo seemed a tad 2nd behind, H) GaGa is one of the next icons of this generation I) Madonna needs to not put out new music anytime because her old career has been reincarnated through GaGa, J) promo placements/partnerships are the new record label deal and K) THIS VIDEO IS EPIC, GEIGH, OVER THE TOP, and just everything that GaGa wanted to give to her fans and that they expected.

She’s gonna sell another 2 million downloads, watch.

Bertell Wants To “Beat It Up” But We’re Dodging The Blows…

Written by The IPS in Videos on Mar 10, 10

Bertell is one of the latest artists signed to Capitol Records and is being pushed heavily and produced by Bryan-Michael Cox. I’ve seen B. Cox talk about Bertell on Twitter (@nachojohnny) a lot actually.

I was excpecting a bit more actually, now that I’ve seen this video. Bertell seems a bit bored/boring to me — almost like he’s “playing” at being an R&B singer. The song is nothing exciting to me, but could play on a radio station while I was doing dishes and I wouldn’t change it I guess.

It just kind of amazes me that this paint-by-the-numbers R&B is getting released on Capitol but they dropped/parted ways/whatever with Novel. It’s just interesting to me. Though I’m sure that the help of B. Cox is giving him that added support that he’s really going to need.
