Now, I’ve been a casual fan of The-Dream over the years — and even then, moreso of his production acumen then his career arc as an artist and “vocalist.”
However, with the release of “That’s My Shit,” he’s kicked his swagger up a notch and it also features one of the best guest verses from T.I. that I’ve actually liked in QUITE some time.
It’s a simple song, but as mentioned above, it has a sheen and swagger to it that makes you pay attention. The-Dream knows his role in a song, and usually crafts his songs to compliment his weak points. Where his voice can be plaintive and basic, the track presented here has some flourishes that give his voice less of an annoying tinge.
While the video isn’t my favorite, I still turn this song on and immediately start bopping. It’s the lead single from his upcoming album Crown/Jewel, which is due out this year.
What y’all think about this new joint from The-Dream?
