    • Trailers: Queen Latifah & Common In “Just Wright”

Written by The IPS in Movies on Mar 10, 10

I’m in, this looks semi-interesting. And Common as an athlete? That’s new. Queen Latifah, I do so love her though, so I’m down.

“Just Wright” revolves around a sports trainer (Latifah) who finds herself falling in love with a professional basketball player (Common) while rehabilitating him from a career threatening injury. Things are further complicated because her closest friend (Patton) is also pursuing him.

But I LOVE me some Paula Patton! Yes, yes I do. “Just Wright” hits theaters May 14th. Glad to see a non-corny movie getting some screen time indeed.

Is anyone going to see “Our Family Wedding” with Lance Gross and America Ferrara this weekend? I think I want to see that and “The Green Zone” with Matt Damon personally…some zone out time would be nice!

      Trailers: “This Time”…It’ll Be Different

Written by The IPS in Movies on Feb 27, 10

The trailer for “This Time”, a movie directed and produced by a friend of mine Matthew Cherry, has dropped. The movie features faces you might recognize like Reagan Gomez (“Th Parent ‘Hood”) and Terri J. Vaughan (“The Steve Harvey Show”), and was also written by Reagan Gomez. The plot for this movie looks very interesting and I wish them good luck! They’ve submitted it to some film festivals and so let’s hope for good news for them. Love seeing black people do their thing!

Peep the synopsis & description after the jump!

New “Why Did I Get Married Too?” Trailer Gives More Backstory

Written by The IPS in Movies on Jan 29, 10

OK now this trailer makes the movie make more sense, because the first trailer had me scratching my head like “What?”

Look at the extended movie description, as if you and your aunties and cousins ain’t already made your plans to go to the theater and got sitters already:

Trailers: “Our Family Wedding” Starring Lance Gross & America Ferrara Hits In March

Written by The IPS in Movies on Jan 6, 10

“Our Family Wedding” features Lance Gross (Tyler Perry franchise) and America Ferrara (“Ugly Betty”) as a young couple in love from two very different cultural backgrounds. Insert a tow track, a baby and a clash of the patriarchs and respective cultures, and you have a movie!

Bradford Boyd (Forest Whitaker) is a wealthy Afro-American who is upset when his car is towed by Mexican Miguel Ramirez (Carlos Mencia). The two later find out that their children, Marcus Boyd (Lance Gross) and Lucia Ramirez (America Ferrara), are engaged and going to get married. With their differences, preparing the wedding in less than two weeks become days full of problems. (Source)

I heard about this movie last year and now that a trailer has dropped, I’m excited about it. I’d always wondered what it would be like if I ever dated a Latina woman. Maybe this is as close as I will get LOL.

And truth be told, I would pay anything to see Regina King. I love Regina King…she can act and she’s fine and she’s grown. Phew. I’m gonna be there first row. There’s a cavalcade of black stars in this movie, and it drops March 12th into theatres.

I Was Skeptical Of The “Karate Kid” Remake…This Trailer Might Change My Mind

Written by The IPS in Movies on Dec 23, 09

Yo, I kept reading that Jaden Smith was putting 200% into the filming of this movie and that Jackie Chan was very very impressed with his dedication, and after seeing the trailer, I think I believe it.

Taraji P. Henson…she is getting to the money, ain’t she?

This film is slated to drop June 11, 2010. Remakes/reboots are never sure bets — but do you think this one is or can be?

He literally is the “Karate KID” though because he’s hella young! That kid has a bright future though…he’s had the best his whole life. I wonder what he’ll do in the future.

Wesley Snipes Returns In “Brooklyn’s Finest” Trailer

Written by The IPS in Movies on Dec 17, 09

“Brooklyn’s Finest” is a movie that’s been buzzing for the past few months, and here’s the trailer I finally got around to watching today. You should too!

“Brooklyn’s Finest” is directed by Antoine Fuqua, who most of you may remember as the director of “Training Day”. It’s good to see Wesley Snipes back in his element LOL. One of my personal favorites, Don Cheadle, who is an EXCELLENT actor, also stars in this movie. Richard Gere and Ethan Hawke fill out the primary cast.

      The synopsis simply says:

Three unconnected Brooklyn cops wind up at the same deadly location after enduring vastly different career paths.
It was one of the first movies to sell at Sundance Film Festival this past year, and the script writer is someone who used to be a Subway flagger in NYC, but who now may also be writing a sequel to “New Jack City”. Whaaaa! Is that why Wesley is in this joint? Maybe not, but wouldn’t THAT be interesting…

Chris Rock Hires Black Hollywood for “Death at a Funeral” Flick

Written by The IPS in Movies on Dec 8, 09

Chris Rock brings out an ensemble cast for his remake of the 2007 dark comedy “Death at a Funeral”, but with an urban twist. Features Martin Lawrence, Tracey Morgan, Zoe Saldana, Columbus Short and more. Zoe Saldana…oh yes!

The film, a remake of a 2007 British movie of the same name, revolves around a dysfunctional family which comes together for the patriarch’s funeral, only to be rocked by gay revelations from the deceased’s alleged former lover.

The film is set to debut in April 2010. This looks worthy of a theatre visit to me, what do you think? I’m just glad Martin’s not in a fat suit. And Zoe Saldana…I’ll always pay to see her LOL. *collects thoughts*

Anika Noni Rose Is Disney’s First Black Princess! Are You Excited?

Written by The IPS in Movies on Dec 8, 09

I’m not one for Disney movies, but I love Anika Noni Rose, so I kind of want to go see “The Princess and the Frog”, which hits theatres finally on this Friday, December 11th. Rose stars as Disney’s first black princess, Princess Tiana. Though I hear she is a frog for the majority of the movie, wamp.

There’s also a soundtrack (which is out now) full of original music by Randy Newman (who also scored and composed for the film), and stars such as Ne-Yo, Jennifer Lewis and Rose herself. You can watch a live clip of her singing “Almost There” on “Good Morning America” a couple of weeks ago — she sounds great!

I’d take my little cousins to see this movie, as it is a pretty historic event for Disney. I’m not a real animated movie fan though, and haven’t seen a lot of “classic” Disney joints — don’t judge me. But I’m all for diversifying, and though there has been some backlash about this movie…when isn’t there backlash about anything as sensitive as race and how we handle it in America?

Are you going to check this out?

Trailers: Tyler Perry’s “Why Did I Get Married Too”

Written by The IPS in Movies on Nov 7, 09

Tyler Perry’s latest movie, the sequel to the well-received “Why Did I Get Married?” drops April 2010 with the title of “Why Did I Get Married Too”. Nice title LOL!

This trailer makes it seem like an episode of “Survivor” though…I can’t. Other than that, I’m looking forward to it.

And look at Perfect Patty looking she just murdered someone! Is Madea gonna pull a Lil’ Mama and shoot someone for cheating? I mean, that sounds like a Tyler Perry movie to me!

Let me stop LOL! What ya’ll think of the trailer?

      Trailer: 50 Cent’s “Before I Self Destruct”…Movie.

Written by The IPS in Movies on Oct 28, 09

The trailer for 50’s much delayed directorial debut Before I Self Destruct came out today…coincidentally, his album also leaked today.

      Hmm.

A coming of age story about an inner-city youth raised by a hardworking single mother. When his dream of becoming a basketball player fails to materialize, he finds himself employed in a supermarket. After his mother is tragically gunned down, Clarence (played by Jackson) is consumed by revenge and takes up a life of crime in order to support his younger brother. (Source)

This movie was supposedly going to be included with his latest album of the same title after a theatrical release was forgone. I’m personally not hyped about either, but early Twitter buzz seems to be about evenly split for 50’s latest.

Him being a shrewd business man, I wouldn’t put it past him though as this all being part of some marketing ploy….
