I haven’t been able to find much about Ryan McDermott, aside from the fact that he’s a new signing to G.O.O.D. Music and was signed on the spot after a personal audition for Kanye West himself.
What I do know is that I’ve heard about this song for a while and finally tracked down a video for “Paradise”. Mr. McDermott submits his slinky, stacked vocal, futuristic version of Blue Eyed Soul with that the stabs and kicks that the music bed for “Paradise” is. I like this joint. His vocal is singular to me, and stands apart from the heavy feel of the track. The slight nasal and high timbre of his voice is a great counter to the kicks and subsonics that anchor this track.
In the video we see him loving and leaving, leading us to think that “Paradise” is only a one night stand and the morning sex that follows afterwards. It’s a great musical introduction to Ryan’s sound I believe, and I look forward to what he has to offer with the assistance of Mr. West. If this track is any indication of Ryan’s original sound, the two pairing up might produce some interesting R&B for our ears.
What do you think?
