    • Have You “Made Love Lately” To A Day26 Song? Well, You Can Once Again…

Written by The IPS in Videos on Feb 8, 12

Day26 is back, and to tell the truth, I’m not mad. I was reminiscing upon theirs and Danity Kane’s music. For a minute, they were the best hopes we had for R&B groups making semi-current, decent-sounding music again on the charts. Day26 was a bit better vocally as a whole than Danity Kane in my opinion, but Danity Kane had some catchier hooks despite both group’s internal drama.

Now that Q has left/been booted from the group, Day26 has solidified their lineup and sound a bit and released the latest single “Made Love Lately”. The song dropped a while back but now we get visuals. I almost wish they would have kept the visual, because the song grew on me majorly. The visuals seem a bit unfinished in terms of the styling — or maybe that was the intention? I feel like they are invoking the spirit of Jodeci, stylistically AND vocally. However, that being said, these dudes don’t give me the same rough edges that Jodeci did.

Besides Big Mike’s blond streak and the tragicness of this faux-hardness that this video presents, the song is solid and grows on you with a couple of listens. Their new album A New Day is coming soon, and I think I’m dialed in to hear what they are offering this go-round. We don’t have many options for solid vocal groups these days, and I’m willing to ride with Day26 and see what they can bring. Are you still down?

You are way more generous than I am. This song is awful.

I usually am more generous than you though LOL! I definitely don’t love it, but in relation to what else is out in terms of R&B groups, I can stomach it enough to listen to it and put it in the rotation.

So umm… are they sharing the same video chick or what? lol
The song isnt terrible, but i dont know if its enough to launch a comeback for them..

      4. February 9, 2012 The IPS

LOL I wouldn’t take the video too literally in that regards, but I may agree with you that I am not sure if it will relaunch their careers. But they’ve stayed true to their sound however.

i feel your take on this. i never hated Day26, and we don’t really have that many male group vocal options. the era of reality tv-promoted music groups has come and gone, but it doesn’t negate that Day 26 can actually sing.

but you’re also right about the video – i could do without it. the editing is terrible; it’s way too schizophrenic. annoying.
