I used to be a hardcore SWV fan. And a big fan of Coko’s solo (Gospel) albums. And while I REALLY wanted to like this song, the video isn’t really helping me along the path to falling back in love with SWV.
From jump, “Co-Sign” comes across as awkward to me. I’m not sure if it’s the production or the song itself, but the ladies still sound the same. That’s a good thing. I’ve replayed the song a bit as well, because the “swing & sway” of the song felt VERY 90′s, very throwback, and very true to their original song. They didn’t come back out pop-lock-dropping-tooted-booty and all that.
At the same time – I need more. This song feels a bit dry, unemotional, and very paint-by-numbers all at the same time. This video simply drives that point home, because the visual is exactly the same. Nothing flashy, nothing….interesting.
I’m never going to clown a solid vocal, but even back in the day, SWV had a bit more “zip” to them. They could have given us something to “really” co-sign, if you know what I mean.
What do y’all think?

omg, i just went to post this on your facebook saying “review this in your blog!” and then i came here to double check…and of course, you had already posted it!
i actually enjoy the production a lot, and still love their harmonies and stan for coko’s voice… but i think you hit the nail on the head with “paint by numbers.” there’s a little something missing… but i do love the throwback sound, and i love that they didn’t try to change too much.

I think they wanted to do a safe song…remember they havent had a new song in 15 years so they dont want to do too much for the first song. I believe they will have that “zip” in the other songs on the album.

I like the beat of the song and am super excited that their vocals are still stellar. The video was a bit…boring in my honest opinion, but I am still checking for SWV. R&B needs this!

I was surprised by the video on Centric one morning. Had no idea they were back together. I think the song and vid was refreshing. Im glad they weren’t trying to do too much seeing they are older women now with children. While watching I got that nostalgic “Awww, look at us all grown up” feeling, lol. The sound was definitely 90′s and the ladies still look good. Can’t be mad at that. Looking forward to the rest of their material.

I’m feeling it, they been away for a minute and they came back better than I expected. The song is doing good and I’m happy to see them back.
