One of my favorite joints from Big K.R.I.T., and it’s also the first single from his upcoming album Live From The Underground, which drops June 5th. “I Got This” was released as a free download back in March, and I extolled its virtues on Twitter at the time, and wore it out.
K.R.I.T. reminds me of an up-and-coming early version of David Banner, as he both writes and produces his own music and also for others as well. Both hail from Mississippi, and both seem to be more cognizant of the social implications of hip-hop.
“I Got This” has a refrain that is left off the clean version in the video above, but really gives the song its “oomph” in my opinion, LOL. The video features a characteristically old-school feel about the visual treatment, and it matches the Dirty South origins of the rapper himself. There’s some significance to the numbers that keep popping up on the screen as well — can you figure it out?
I like K.R.I.T. (which stands for King Remembered In Time), and I’m all for folks who not only rap but created their own soundscapes as well. I’m excited about his album, and am definitely looking forward to it.
