Fader has the exclusive on a brand new Stacy Barthe track called “No Strings Attached” that features John Legend and is produced by one of my favorite producers, Supa Dups. With his patented reggae rhythms and soulful tendencies, Supa Dups laces Stacy Barthe with a low key, dark yet poignant banger with smoky vocals from John Legend.
While I’m not the biggest fan of John Legend, my man sounds great on this track. Their voices compliment both the track and each other well, and Stacy Barthe is lethal with a pen. Her material always skewers toward the darker, unspoken sides of relationships that you don’t normally hear tackled on the radio in this current day and age, but it’s a welcome and refreshing balance.
Stacy isn’t a conventional singer, looks-wise or sound-wise, and I think it’ll be a litmus test for how good music fares out over image, pop-stylings, and the like. Adele has had a monster year and she is by no means at all a conventional chart entry by standard industry measurings. Will Stacy win out over the pop tarts and traditional R&B ingenues? Time will tell. Until then, enjoy the sounds taken from her latest EP In The InBetween, and get ready for her 1st solo album PS: I Love You.
