Y’all know I have mentioned on numerous occasions here on Tha Feedback how the Brits are smashing the soul/R&B game, more than the Americans these days. With EDM (Electronic Dance Music) become the de facto form of “pop” music here in the States, once again I’ve turned my attention across the pond to see what they have to offer up lately.
Well, enter DivaGeek. I mean, the name is so apropos. I had no idea what I was getting into looking at the album cover on their Bandcamp page, but once I hit play, I was immediately impressed with what I heard. Who would have ever expected that a white man with a beard would be this funky? Who would have guessed that the “DIVA” in DivaGeek really and truly meant that she had a powerful, amazing voice? Their name is definitely not a misnomer at all.
One of my favorite tracks, and one that has been on repeat for probably the past few weeks is “Mr Happy”. This song GOES to me. I love it. I love the lyrics, the groove, and Vula’s vocals. Instant replay value. Other standout tracks are definitely both of the covers on this album, “Can’t Help It” (Michael Jackson) and “I Can’t Go For That” (Hall & Oates). Please believe the original songs are great, too: “Money”, “Go Hard” and “Hangin’ Wid U” are great joints. You can definitely hear the influence of their favorite artists throughout the album, which they mention on the final track “Thanks”.
I’ve listened to this album in its entirety a number of times. It’s definitely worth checking, and you can purchase it from their site OR, it’s also on Spotify as well.
Give “Mr Happy” a listen, and if you like it, tweet them and let them you know you found out about them from Tha Feedback! Also, after the jump, there’s a remix they did of Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know”!

“Mr. Happy” is pretty dope. Thanks for turning me on to this! The British Invasion? American R&B music has no guts.
