I haven’t heard a vocal performance like this that I’ve loved in a quite awhile. Brandy’s performance of “Wildest Dreams” from this year’s “Black Girls Rock” that aired on BET a few weeks ago was stellar. Why? There were so many small vocal flourishes that were well placed. The control she has over her voice. The timing. The quality of her tone live. Brandy kills so much on this performance — so much so that when I hear this song on the album now, all I ever hear is the live version above.
If you’re a singer, I think you’ll understand this post a bit more. The background vocals were a little touch and go at times, but come on — compared to some of the other performances on that very same show (*coughs Alicia Keys*), Brandy is leaps and bounds above her peers.
This video stays on repeat, and boo to BET for always making me watch a full minute of ads before I can hear this song!
