Jennifer Hudson – “Where You At”
J. Hud’s new album I Remember Me is due out March 22nd, and “Where You At” is the first offering from the sophomore project of Mrs. Hudson. Let’s hope all the reworking they’ve done on this album pays off — originally I heard she was trying to capture the current 4/4 dance craze before Clive Davis put the kibosh on that. “Where You At” is laden with sappiness and big notes, as it should be since it was penned by R. Kelly. Sadly, I feel like it’s heavy on the cheese is too middle-of-the-road to make any real dent in the conciousness of America.
I think they are more aware of Jennifer’s wait loss and her hollering in those Weight Watchers commercials then they are going to care about this song.
We will see what the rest of the album sounds like….I’m rooting for her!

Let me start by saying how much I love me some J.Hud…but this is a horrible first single. ‘Where You At?’ is a flat out lazy mid-tempo R&B cut…it isn’t inventive or clever in any way; it isn’t very melodic or catchy; it shows no musical evolution on the part of Jennifer (who’s entire debut album was filled with similar tracks)…’At?’ is autopilot R&B, and Ms. Hudson ought to be releasing FIRE. This ain’t even a spark.

Her music just doesn’t move me at all…I’ll pass.

Such a pity that they still fall for the same thing all the time: trying to score a big hit. Pity pity pity, especially when it regards someone as talented as Jennifer Hudson. Record labels, when dealing with such high calibre talent such as Jennifer Hudson, should forget about the immediate success of the album, and concentrate on its longevity and achieving classic status; because….that’s what happens to true art: it never dies. The only good thing about ‘Where you at’ is the vocals. Other than that it is just a Leona Lewis wannabe track. Pity, because if there is anyone at the moment that I am rooting for it is Jennifer Hudson.

Jennifer Hudson should be working with song writers and producers we’ve never heard of before.
