Remember those braids?!?! Sorry, I had to get that out of my system. On June 28, 2011, Alicia Keys will celebrate the 10th anniversary of her breakthrough album Songs In A Minor by releasing a Collector’s Edition that will feature alternate versions of the songs from the album and a DVD chronicling the creation of the album. Here is a sample of the documentary featured on the DVD.
It is amazing to think how much time has passed by since Keys smacked everyone on their heads with her soaring ballad “Fallin’” and followed up with a great collection of songs. I remember the first time I heard her was on Jermaine Dupri‘s 25 Days of Christmas where she did her on spin on “Little Drummer Boy” called “Little Drummer Girl” which I still whip out every winter.
I also forgot just how big this album was and what it did for R&B during the time it came out. I wish she would get back to making some R&B gems instead of focusing on being a crossover artist. Maybe, this will get her inspiration flowing back in that direction for her next album. I can hope! So what were your favorite songs off this album? I’m gonna celebrate it by playing the version I bought ten years ago!
