All Hail Usher!
Usher debuted his new video on MTV and of course, it’s all dance moves and pretty ladies, the two things he never seems to fail at (well…there was that one time…).
In the Chris Robinson directed “Daddy’s Home” clip (featuring fiiiiiiine model Noemie Lenoir), there’s a clear distinction shown between the sexual nature of this song and the “return” of Usher to the music business after a long hiatus.
While I applaud Usher’s agility and nimbleness after all this time, I still cannot get behind this song. There are times when he’s singing that it’s absolutely not okay. Usher has never had to do “much” vocally to make a song good. He threw it in there at key points to create the right amount of tension and expectation, but during this song?
There are so many runs and riffs and attempts at higher notes that just came off flat and just out-right terrible. It’s like, no one caught these during editing? It was like, 2 or 3 times where I jumped back from the screen. Not believing my ears!
Anyway, the younger generation might not really KNOW who Usher is, and this isn’t going to grab their attention. The older generation of ladies are probably happy on some level to see Usher back. Where do you stand?
Raymond vs. Raymond drops on March 30th, which seems to be getting release heavy…
