You know what, I just can’t even take them seriously. Fergie rapped more than the Black person. The other two are really starting to look/sound like the Rainbow Coalition — just there because it gives them more of an “international” flavor as a group.
This video about them bringing dance to a lifeless world and/or break-dancing robots serving each other Omarion style and them outfits and them costumes and ALL OF THIS, I just can’t take them seriously anymore.
Pop group. RIP The Black Eyed Peas as a hip-hop group, though I’m sure most folks did it a long time ago.
The sad part is, I kind of liked “I’mma Be” before it breaks down into that techno-foolery. The second song “Rocking That Body” — I don’t think I’d even made it that far on their “The E.N.D.” album, true story. will.i.am lets me down as a Black man LOL. Joking…
My grandma summed it up during the Grammys broadcast: “The Black Eyed Peas aren’t BLACK?!” Touche Grandma! TOUCHE!

They really let me down with this video. I’m not even gonna lie—this was my power song in the gym for a minute.
I was hoping for something really futuristic with some tight choreography, but this is just all over the place.
I will give Fergie her props for looking as good as she does at this point. Other than that, I just can’t. I stopped watching when they dropped the Rob Base sample. Lame.

the minute they added fergie to the group i stopped taking them seriousl. as far as mindless pop with no lyrical quality or content with hot beats, they reign supreme.

I understand if you don’t like their music but what does that have to do with them or Will.I.Am being black? Yeah, they switched their sound almost completely and they market to a new audience but that doesn’t make them any less black, especially since Will is really the only black person in the group.

*sigh*
I really like ‘imma be’ too but I feel they could have offered up a better video that that song. The whole transformers thing is played out. Boring, cheap video. =( I miss the old black eyed peas sans fergie. I still play ‘request line’ by them featuring macy gray. That was my JAM!

I could understand if the music was bad in general, but I actually liked Elefunk, and The E.N.D. Some of the individual songs they’ve had have been pretty stupid, but as a whole album, the production, especially on The E.N.D. has been on point. It’s pop-geared dance/techno, and there is an audience for that, and I don’t think it has any less merit than their hip-hop work. It’s just different. And yeah, the idea that it makes Will.i.am any less “black” is ridiculously stupid. Especially with a lot of what they do now, this the kind of music represented by several black producers and vocalists.

My GRANDMOTHER said she’d thought they’d be black because of their name folks. And I said that traditionally, will.i.am has been a rapper, however, I felt like the non-black person, FERGIE, was rapping more than him.
I wasn’t trying to necessarily make it a black/white thing, but of course they have diluted the sound of their music over the years to morph into the more pop-oriented group that they are today. Pop has traditionally been dominated by more of a Caucasian sound and consumer.

I’mma Be shouldn’t be confused with other songs that we would label as hiphop. It features a heavy mix of dance, ‘electro’(the new techno), and some rhythmic vocals which I could be heard as hiphop or dance vocals. The beats are hiphop with a pop feel, but does that make it a hiphop song? One segment features a jazzy pop arrangement. I noticed the song charted on the Billboard RnB Hiphop chart which causes me to wonder if they should start calling it the ‘RnB Hiphop + Pop + Dance’chart. This hiphop flavors in this song don’t seem strong enough to land this song into a hiphop chart. That said, I love the Black Eyed Peas and I like this song. It’s a great pop dance song.
