Does some of this imagery look familiar to you? Well, remember in “Dreamgirls” when Jamie Foxx was making Beyonce’ all pretty and dressing her up and taking all them photos of her? Yeah, that was patterned after Diana Ross’ starring role in “Mahogany”, which was generally received poorly when it was released in 1975. But the theme song “Theme From Mahogany (Do You Know Where You’re Going To)” was nominated for an Academy Award and was a #1 hit for Diana Ross.
It’s one of my favorite Diana Ross songs and I just been in a Diana mood lately — out of nowhere. She may not be THE BEST singer EVER, but Diana could work a song. And she was the classiest diva that Motown had and where would we be without her influence and support of The Jackson 5 and little Michael Jackson?
Get into this classic joint. And if you’ve never seen “Mahogany” with Billy Dee Williams, I suggest you go get it. Watch that and “The Wiz” ROFL! I’m not even joking!
