Fantasia performs her new single “Even Angels” today on Oprah and she toned it down for O and her audience.
I’m neutral towards the song and wouldn’t have picked it for the first single because it sounds very filler to me. I was more distracted by Oprah’s early 90’s “Star Search” background with the fog machine going at full blast!
All and all I generally liked the performance. Rarely do you see ‘tasia use any kinda vocal restraint. Even when she did her Dorinda Clark-Cole knock off runs they were mild at best. She even starts crying with that one hand lifted, #sochurchy! You can take the girl out the church but you can’t take the church out the girl…
What do we think of this new single? If you’ve watched the show, you’ve seen her fight hard for “Move On Me”, the song she had initially decided that she loved the most. Guess they didn’t feel the same way?

Yeah I think this song is REALLY safe. Even sounds like a winning American Idol song. Fantasia is much more soulful and vibrant vocally than this, and she seems to be visibly holding back. I don’t really like that, but I guess you have to go with the flow and appeal to as many folks as possible.

I like the song. Probably not a best first single choice, but it’s a good song. It’s also a very Oprah-esque song so I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s the one performed for taht reason.
Shouts to Tasia for proving she can hold it in and keep her shoes on.

My girl never sounds off live.
The song is good. It’s def. a grower…I’m still in the “Move On Me” camp (just from listening to 30 secs of that song), but “Even Angels” is a nice push at some crossover. I don’t really think it will (‘Tasia is NOT a crossover artist and I wish they’d stop trying to make her into one). She’s at her best when she’s singing GUT SOUL and that’s the way I like her…but I understand she’s trying to be known for more than being a barefoot singing tornado…she’s gunning for that Mary J. Blige spot. I’m not mad and she deserves it.

I felt there was too many words in the song, and some were a bit…I dunno..odd? Sort of distracted. It was a bit tame for what she can handle, perhaps its due to the throat tumors.
