    • VV Brown Debuts Stateside With “Shark In The Water”! + Tour With Little Dragon News

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Feb 27, 10

VV Brown, one of the latest imports from across the pond has FINALLY had her US television debut! She was on Jimmy Kimmel and performed her single “Shark In The Water” to a clapping, engaged audience.

I love “Shark In The Water” and her album is SO good, I’m glad that she is starting to get more known here in the US. She has a mix of quirky yet catchy and singable pop meets rock and 60′s ish sensibilities with some heavy soul undertones at times and I enjoy her music a lot. AND PLEASE get into her bang and that hat! HAHAHA!

She’s also about to go on tour with the trendy and indie group du jour, Little Dragon. Hit the jump for the tour dates below!

      Trailers: “This Time”…It’ll Be Different

Written by The IPS in Movies on Feb 27, 10

The trailer for “This Time”, a movie directed and produced by a friend of mine Matthew Cherry, has dropped. The movie features faces you might recognize like Reagan Gomez (“Th Parent ‘Hood”) and Terri J. Vaughan (“The Steve Harvey Show”), and was also written by Reagan Gomez. The plot for this movie looks very interesting and I wish them good luck! They’ve submitted it to some film festivals and so let’s hope for good news for them. Love seeing black people do their thing!

Peep the synopsis & description after the jump!

Classic Flashback: De La Soul – “Oooh.” Feat. Redman

Written by The IPS in Blogs,Videos on Feb 26, 10

I don’t think a lot of people were too tough on this 2000 De La Soul release Art Official Intelligence: Mosaic Thump, but it had this song and the Chaka Khan assisted “All Good?” which I loved. What I more so loved than the Prince Paul beat was the music video for this joint.

If you don’t know, “The Wiz” is my MOVIE. So anything channeling that gets points LOL. I thought it was a pretty funny take on the movie. Rah Digga as Dorothy and De La Soul as the other characters and Redman as The Wiz made me smile everytime.

Rah Digga is rapping again too — check out her song “Warning Shots” produced by Nottz, who is doing a whole album with her that’s due in June. I’ve always liked Rah’s tone and the rasp in her voice is just SO hip-hop to me.

It’s Friday…all I wanna do is party too Redman!

Old Money > Dirty Money Any Day of the Week With “Mamaseh”; What Do We Think?

Written by The IPS in Blogs,Videos on Feb 26, 10

My daily traverse across the Internets brought me to this Old Money video for their song called “Mamaseh”. Old Money is a NYC/Vancouver, CA based but coat of many colors originated group that makes music that’s a mashup of many different genres — hip-hop, UK grime, dancehall, funk, Afro-beat and more. Me likey.

In the video for “Mamaseh”, Old Money surreptiously then overtly follows around a “New Yorker”, who, like most NY’ers, is in his own bubble as he goes about his evening. Then he begins to realize he is being followed…before coming to the realization that it is all in his head. Or is it? Paranoia is a dish best served cold.

“Mamaseh” is all beats and rhymes and while it may take me another few hours to decipher all the words, the beat is infectious and all-encompassing. I love these kinds of rhythms, as evidenced by our “From Kampala to K-Town” mix which is being featured for a free download. It gets in your spine and soul and just makes you want to dance, and I don’t mean no damn Stanky Leg either LOL!

If you like this joint, it’s available on iTunes and you can get more info about Old Money at their Myspace. I like my money old rather than dirty, sorry Diddy!

Friday Foolery: Jimmy Kimmel And Tracy Morgan Want To Get You “Impregn8ed”

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Feb 26, 10

Well, this is no “I’m On A Boat”, which Andy Samberg and T-Pain were nominated for Emmy’s and Grammys for if I remember correctly.

Jimmy Kimmel does his best either T-Pain or Lil’ Wayne impression on auto-tune with Tracy Morgan doing his hardest to be funny. I didn’t laugh as much as I just rolled my eyes, but you may find it enjoyable? LOL. Reading the lyrics was more hilarious to me than watching the visual.

Tracy Morgan has a new movie out today called “Cop Out” that stars him and Bruce Willis. The tag line on the movie poster is “Rock out with your glock out.”

Ooookay, think I’mma save my $$ for that and catch it on RedBox maybe when it falls out of theaters in a month or three LOL.

Peep the lyrics after the jump.

Rihanna Gets Frisky With Her “Rude Boy” Across The Pond

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Feb 26, 10

I normally don’t do Rihanna “live” performances, but I thought the band was kind of jamming on the 1 with this performance of “Rude Boy” on the Alan Carr show across the pond. Rihanna has on a lunch lady hair net — is that was passes for fashion these days? — and she simulates getting some with her microphone, but at the end of the performance, I got to say that she sounded ALRIGHT for her. I mean, this song has basically no more than 5 or 6 notes but this is the first time I didn’t immediately want to throw myself off a cliff after hearing her perform.

I’m mostly giving that up to the band, though it seems they missed their cue at the beginning cause the drummer was sitting there like…”Oh, do I play NOW?” HA!

I really can’t with that fancy Bajan Aunt Jemima get-up though, LOL. Did you know she’s talking about putting out a new album already — approximately this summer. It’s just been four short months since her last one came out, but she wants lighter, edgier fare this time around. *shrugs*

Paul Anka Tributes MJ & Does Posthumous Duet On Their Song “This Is It”

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Feb 26, 10

      OK, this kinda moved me.

Paul Anka, who is a worldwide legend as a songwriter and performer if you didn’t know, is the one who, many years ago, co-wrote Michael Jackson’s posthumously released song “This Is It”. In the beginning of the clip, he gives a little back story, then swings into his own version, then with his orchestra, segues into the Michael Jackson version. It was all very just…

I’m still sad that Michael Jackson has passed. Call me sentimental, but I don’t think I will ever get over it.

Taio Cruz And Ludacris Will “Break Your Heart” If You Let Them

Written by The IPS in Videos on Feb 25, 10

Taio Cruz is primarily a UK singer, but he’s the latest from across the pond to try and break in America. And you know, we aren’t an easy country to crack, though with Ke$ha riding high, I am starting to lose hope in my country ROFL.

Taio Cruz is a UK singer/songwriter/producer. I compare him to Ne-Yo — same vocal capability, styling, dancing, etc. “Break Your Heart” debuted #1 in the UK though and for the US release, they added a stale Ludacris verse.

To me, this comes off as very Akon-meets-David Guetta. Taio wrote and produced it himself along with another co-writer, but I can’t help but feel like this sounds like one of the many David Guetta singles that has invaded our airwaves.

The video is just him on a boat w/ some girls, then some club shots, etc. The song is basically about how he won’t break your heart on PURPOSE, but he’s trying to be single and mingle, so if you fall in love with him, you might disappointed.

And someone better tell him that in America, you got to have a 4:2 yt girl ratio in your videos or heads will roll! #justsaying

It’s taken from his album Rokstarr which from what I can tell is not slated for a Stateside release just yet. Would we care?

Classic Flashback: Black Sheep – “The Choice Is Yours”

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Feb 25, 10

Man, my cousins used to listen to this, and that’s primarily what comes to mind when I hear this Black Sheep song. Someone on Twitter hit me with this suggestion, and I filed it away. Today, I pulled it out!

I feel like I met Dres a while ago briefly when I was in LA at an industry show or something. I remember it being random and I didn’t realize he was who he was until like 20 minutes later after I shook his hand. I think Speech from Arrested Development was there too! I can’t for the life of me remember what kind of function it was…

“You can get with this…or you can get with that!” Even if you don’t remember the song by just looking at this title, you remember that part, or the “Engine engine number 9…” verse.

90′s! Jam to this at your desk. Turn it up! I need to bust out my Native Tongues music man…

LeToya Tries To Put The “Torn” Up Pieces Back Together With Brian McKnight

Written by The IPS in Blogs on Feb 25, 10

LeToya Luckett made an appearance a couple of week ago on Brian McKnight’s syndicated talk show and LeToya stopped by and did an a pretty good live version of her song “Torn” with the ever musically talented (but lame talkshow host) Brian McKnight. From the clip, it looks like he chose the song for her to sing?

LeToya’s album is still on repeat. This is nice, she sounds decent for LeToya besides a note or two! I enjoy her for whatever reason. Her albums are really solid through and through, but I’ve been saying this, so yeah. Enjoy! LOL.

As much as I love LeToya though, “The Preacher’s Kid” was an AWFUL movie. Dear God in heaven, it was so cliche and overacted. God bless her ministry though!
