Oh, I love Norah Jones. She looks great in this video too! Norah makes the music that Alicia Keys is trying to make now — this is the precise thought I got once this song came on. Think about it. Put a pin in that, we’ll come back to it.
Unlike the Jay-Z video for “Empire State of Mind”, Norah reimagines NYC as a sea and literally takes sail. It’s a brilliant visual, much more exciting to see and process than a lot of other videos that have come out. And the new song is very melodic yet has rhythm and life. I love it. Alicia Keys needs to hang out with Norah and get some tips.
Though the song is short (2:42!), it packs a pretty nice size punch in that short span of time. Norah doesn’t belabor the song with lots of extra anything. It’s a nice step forward for her musically as well yet it doesn’t betray all the past sensibilities that she’s built up and relied on and her fans expect. This is what Alicia Keys and John Mayer have not been doing in my opinion.
I like this! What do you guys think? Any Norah fans? She must be tickled that Smokey Robinson did a cover of her signature hit “Don’t Know Why” (though she’s not the writer of that song BTW)….
