Bring on the big budget! Here comes Lady GaGa.
There’s tons of influences in this new video for Lady GaGa’s latest single “Paparazzi”. And I’m liking what I’m seeing. Aside from her wheelchair rocking antics in the video, she also wants to have a foursome w/ the Jones Brothers. But we digress!
The formula for success so to speak this time is crazy Swedish director Jonas Ã…kerlund who also did P!nk‘s “Sober” video and Christina Aguilera’s “Beautiful”. Next, and always a winner, they did a Michael Jackson-like short film that, like most of MJ’s video’s, full of drama and dancing.
This video shows some sort of a bitter love story, where the man she loves tries to use her for some dollars from the paparazzi and ends up almost killing her, she gets back on her feet, and is hungry for revenge. Kind of sounds like Britney’s real life story…
There’s some hints of Gwen Stefani all throughout the video, but it’s most noticeable in her hairdo. The white hair, the bangs, to me it all kinda looks like this.
Somewhere in the first chorus, she gets up from the wheelchair (which she rocked tho! LOL. I’ve never seen anyone look that fierce in a damn wheelchair!), giving us her version of a Sasha Fierce costume. Actually, it’s fashion designer Thierry Mugler‘s version of a female warrior, but since Mugler was the creative director for Beyoncé’s tour… well, you get the idea. Here’s the Mugler outfit GaGa’s wearing when she gets up from the wheelchair and here’s the outfit GaGa’s wearing when she’s getting her mug shot.
And for the dance scene in the video… remember the “Son Of A Gun” video by Janet Jackson? Sure, Gaga wouldn’t be able to survive if she and Janet had a danceoff to save one of their lives, but the dance break right before the revenge scene is pretty much done, done and done before. Ugh, where’s the originality? I’m not saying that Janet was the first, but the hall GaGa’s dancing in just reminds me of the mansion Janet’s video was shot in, but with the lights switched on.
I’m sure there’s many, many more hints in the video, but I will leave it up to you to find them. Good luck, and let us know what you came up with!
PS: Note the lil dollar bill on the floor in the beginning of the video with GaGa’s face on it. She definitely equals money to her record company, lol.

This video is EPIC!!!!!
I love the scene where she was wearing those Elton John sunglasses and the lil Yellow fitted jumpsuit. It was so eerie yet fabulous.
And yeah it does remind me a bit of Gwen Stefani’s “What you waiting for” video. It has that same kinda weirdness/eerieness/fun theme

The whole Lady GaGa thing just goes right over my head.

I’m just not fascinated by her and the video didn’t floor me as it has everyone else. I don’t know what she is talking about in most of her songs, and she just struts around in expensive outfits that make no sense for being worn in public unless you are out on the hoe stroll. She will likely fade into the background soon as people’s interest fade. There has to be a girl of the summer, it was Rhianna, then Katy Perry and now Lady Gaga, in recent years. I do respect her for putting her heart into her music, that is something most artist lack these days

Did she REALLY just put a BOOT in her mouth @ 5:33?????? YUCK!!!
Other than that, I like the vid.
…Is it just me, or does she ‘stutter’ in ALL of her songs
1) Just, just, just dance
2) Puh, puh, puh poker face
3) Papa, paparazzi?
lol, just an observation :-P

I think that Lady GaGa has a really good shot at longevity in the buisness. Like it or not she does bring something new, and it does have to do with the music. I think it is safe to say that she takes herself waaay to seriously, but unlike other “chicks of the moment” she really didn’t shoot to fame overnight. Like most of the important artists in music is was a slow rise to the top. Only time will tell…

@ some of ya’lls comments:
I’m still waiting on something she does that’s actually new, or refreshing. That was basically the point of my whole review. Mela3 kinda said it best, lol.
There’s soo much ‘copied, taken, inspired by, made her own’ in this video (and about Lady Gaga herself) that I don’t give her any longer than 2 years max.
I mean seriously, showing off your ass in the promotion cycle of your first album? Even Britney was classier.

I liked it. It was flashy and moving at the same time.

Well an advance warning for anyone LURVING or ABSOLUTELY DISPISING Lady Gaga better be aware Lady Adam Lambert is coming this way in a “glittery, artistic, pop-rocking original fun” summer time near you, so brace yourselves! There will soon be boy of the season! LOL.
By the way, I feel the exact same way about those “artistic, fun” mainstream types as Mela3 and stefkes. If their so good, where’s the love for Janelle Monae? Peaches? I can go on….

I can’t believe people don’t get her videos and just think she’s strutting around. The video is telling a story that can mean different things to people, but really if you don’t get it and think she’s just strutting around, then I fear for you

Did anybody see hints of Guy Bourdin or David Lachappelle? Actually, they weren’t really hints, they were obvious!! It reminded me so much of their work.
